Does anyone know what the surface they are playing on is called? It looks like something that we used to call Supreme Court back in the day. Is it still available?
McEnroe technique is (and always has been) very particular. Is not the kind ot technique to allow him to play with 50 years with players as Isner. Would not be the same with Edberg or Lendl. McEnroe base his game in his well placed serve and amazing first volley. Impossible to do the same with 50 or more years.
@rodctenis You must have missed McEnroe's match vs Phillippousis..........He took Mark to the cleaners, just a few years ago. Mark was contemplating a comeback on the main tour, as he was dominating the Seniors Tour. According to Jim Courier, Phillippousis still hit a huge ball. Mac took him out, twice. If his game holds up against Flip, I think he would probably do ok against the other guys out there who don't hit nearly as heavy a ball.
You cannot be serious. Looks like John is nervous, trying not to look bad and waste Isner's time.. same as another vid here with Connors 'hitting' with A-Rod. Connors is running around picking up balls like a little puppy trying to pleas his master haha
It's funny the way players treat their coaches when they come over to tell them something.. Fed, Roddick.. they look away like they are not listening, as in 'GTF out of my face' haha
@telmolicious If McEnroe was playing like that at our local park - no one would recognise him, he'd look like a beginner on his first time on a tennis court!
@SerUresto Read my comment in context of the other postings here - it's obvious how game styles are different from the 70s and 80s when compared to moden tennis of the last decade where players are fitter atheletes and have progressed with stronger forehands and many now have a preference for the two-handed backhand.
Those saying McEnroe could beat Isner or anyone "outside of the Top 30"... sorry, but you really don't know tennis. McEnroe wouldn't be able to beat anyone under Top 250. In other words, he could NOT win a Futures tournament. Mac is a legend, but you need to be so physical in today's game and at 50 there's just no way. See Thomas Muster, former #1, is STILL playing on the ATP tour at 43. His rank? #980 !
Mac's rank back in 1994 was already #1,212 in the world.
@A550RGY One of the older guys (I can't remember who) said they feel like the past greats have a chance to win a match against a fair amount of ATP players..the issue is that after the first round they'd be exhausted and lose the second round.
@daraemkar Good, we're all at least in agreement that Mac could not last past the second round, let alone a whole tournament. As for beating someone in the first round, yes, that's possible as many events have low ranked players (250+) , including unranked WC qualifiers and juniors, etc in the first round.
@A550RGY For someone like Mac it just depends on who they play...Mac's game is based around touch and precision so his age honestly doesn't effect his game (beyond him moving more slowly) like it will Nadal when he gets older.
Otherwise, I think we need to decide what generation we're comparing. Big difference between Sampras or Agassi (who both have power games) playing a single round against upper ranked players and Mac playing them.
@daraemkar I just don't see any high players having much trouble with Mac's touch and precision game, as they can get to so many more balls than the players could back when Mac was in his prime. I believe even Mac said just recently that compared to players nowadays, he looks back on his old footage and feels he was moving in "slow motion".
As far Agassi & Sampras, I think they still have a fair chance at beating any given high player in a single match.
What's wrong with you? 3 comments each a few minutes apart, raging in defense of Mac...when ironically you fial to realize we were talking about ISNER.
"A 6'9" guy that can't play at the net will never win. Mac's still got a soft as silk touch. Isner's got a brick like touch"
true and he plays from like 5-7 ft. behind the baseling. No way he can beat guys like Nadal, FEderer and Murray from that far back. With his height and reach he should be all over the net. THen he could definetly compete and beat those guys and find himself in the top 10
@kunju112 He doesn't want to kill Mac.. he's hitting to mac like he's a little kid. Mac is just warming up.. the problem is he'll have to lay down after 10 minutes haha
woah woah woah!!! wats with all the hate on isner? i mean yea hes tall but still hes a pro tennis player. maybe you guys should say he sucks after you beat him in a match
Yeah, this hatin' is kinda unnerving, considering that he is a top 100 pro capable of taking out any player in the world at any given time and he's getting ripped on by internet posters? Lol, jeez. His groundstrokes look very relaxed and not forced IMO. His footwork is also loose, there's no point in having perfect footwork in warm up. Heck, he's wearing no-show socks when he almost always wears crew socks. He's obviously not taking this seriously.
ribcat: Well we both know the how great of a serve he has, and that can be proven by his amount of aces. But with so many aces wouldn't you expect to see a better win loss record? I would. Personally I thiink its due to his height and size that he has trouble moving around the court and getting to low balls. Anyone who plays him must basically go into the match accepting that Karlovic will hold serve the whole match. You've just gotta get him moving and he'll make errors becasue of his size.
@affenkeks Mac coming in to volley against any current player would suffer severe windburn from their passing shots.. there'd better be a mobile hospital on standby lol
