  • This is one of those very rare cases when someone could take a Beatles' song and make it better.

  • @HelishSushik so many people say that about 250 plus songs by the beatles. for a while it may sound like it's better, but as time passes, the original by the beatles is ALWAYS better.

  • i love you mama CASS!

  • I have 25, and I fell in love of Cass Eliot!! wow she was a complete women. The mamas and the papas were a great group!! :D the ones that born in the sixties are lucky, but hell, we born in this time, to make a great generetion too, not all is lost, Lets do a hell of generation, like they did with theirs. viva Cass elliot y las mamas y los papas, por siempre!!

  • Young people ... please force feed this kind of music to your children ... Justin Bieber and gaga have gotta go .... where they go I really don't care ... just go.

  • @50lancaster hmm, never mind that these folks are on about 4 times the amount of drugs. Look at them, they are all stoned out of their mind.

  • @50lancaster Young people... pleace force feed your young people the music of Lawrence Welk. The Beatles, The Stones, Jimi, Zep, Dylan have got to go...

  • Esta é uma das maiores interpretações de The Mamas & The Papas. Cass Eliot está sublime. Perfeita. Assim como os outros. Good.

  • I thought the Mamas and the Papas interpreted this song beautifully, with their own style, which was way ahead of their time.

  • Lovely.

  • great great great version. Truly a great version

  • Beautiful voice Mama Cass ! Many wish they had such quality in their voice <3

  • Wow.... Loved it then.... Love it Now ! Mama Cass sure can sing <3

  • Cass' lead-in is so yearningly pure, it makes me wish the entire song was acapella.

  • What an inspiring song!!! What a voice...

  • I thought they did a good job of interpreting the Beatles song the Mamas & Papas way. Sorry if you disagree.

  • @MOSFET2288 I'm sorry if they disagree too, because they'd be wrong.

  • That voice, those harmonies--stoned or not during this performance, they were magnificent.

  • what year is this?

  • @EsthersPuppet 1967(summer)

  • Boy was she out of it lol! The life they led back then. But dang if she didn't sound pretty damned good ... despite dropping to the floor, swinging the mike and being doped up.

  • no disrespect to the mamas and papas but they`ve totally ruined a brilliant beatles song. Listening to this is depressing because thats how it sounds depressing at least when the beatles sung it it was a foot tapping beat this version is awful you would have to be smoking weed to enjoy it and by looking at the mamas and papas in this video theyt look like they`ve been smoking weed too

  • @PokerPlum

Well, there's always Rebecca Black's "Friday" for the younger members of the musically disabled community.

  • Hey dipshit or whatever, you're just an untalented idiot! Ham sandwich is the fallacy and you swallowed it wholeheartily. What else do you swallow Bottom?

Yeah drug addicts are always tossing their mics around everytime I see your family in a crack house selling your sister.Get your mother off of the pipe - from both kinds, cause she sure screwed up with you. somebody should have gotten that woman a hanger before she got over her hangover. Now we all suffer because of your dad's little squirt

  • @mikegoons WHOA man, not cool! Keep your trash away from this beautiful music.

  • mama cass is toss the mic like a drug addict, but she's more on ham sandwich

  • awesome.............

  • omg, Mama Cass had such a gorgeous voice. it still blows my mind.

  • QUE EXCELENTESSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love too much this woman, God bless you, Mama Cass, wherever you are... Missing you, darling...

  • They were just as good live as on the record. They could sing.

  • @memorast yes you are right, they could really sing...just amazing!!!

  • @curioushumangeorge Yes They could really harmonize, But Cass had the Pipes....Powerfull melodic voice....so unforgettable....Especially on "I gotta Feelin" Live at Monterey Pop, Check it out...... John Wrote it about His Relationship with Michelle...same with " I saw her agian last night" [IE Denny]

  • Great rendition of this early Beatles song.

  • @MOSFET2288 you are joking aren`t you, it sounds awful you`d have to be high on cocaine or smoking weed to enjoy this the mamas and papas look like they`ve taken drugs or smoked loads of weed

  • Jup, they did something not many people have done, do a cover of a beatles song that's better then the Beatles original version.

  • @theuc You got that right!!! Nobody should ever do a cover of a Beatle song because no matter how hard they try, the Beatles version was always better. Then comes along the Mama's and Papa's and they do the impossible...they out do the Beatles themselves!!! I shutter to think what it would have sounded like if the M&Ps did a cover of "The Night Before" or "Baby's in Black" or "No Reply"..omg!!

  • @susp1 cass elliot did a live cover of paul mccartney's "my love", check it out on yt

  • @curioushumangeorge Cool...thanks!

  • @susp1 I don't know that it's better than the Beatles version, but it's certainly as good. The reason the Mamas and Papas recorded the song in the first place was because of Cass' huge crush on John Lennon. That helps with putting everything into it. Of course, Cass really didn't need too much reason to put her heart into it, she was a great vocalist. Too bad, she was gone at such an early age.

  • @1dublj Cass had a crush on Lennon? Didn't know that...cool. Do you know why the Beatles didn't put this song out for themselves? Did they write it for the Mama & Papas? Ok, Thanks.

  • @susp1 The Beatles did record and release this song. It was released as a single; it's on the Past Masters Volume 1 CD if you'd like to hear it. =D

  • @theuc Agreed. The ONLY other artist(s) I can think of who have achieved the same feat is Boyz II Men's cover of 'Yesterday.'

  • a fat heifer and a child raper.........next

  • Mams and Paps sing Beatles!!

    ed

    w w w eddy nu

  • Damn I loved those hippies.

  • i like the beatles........but i think this shit is way better lol

  • WOW, Great Cover by the BIG Mama!!!

  • The finale gives me goosebumps...great song! Thanks!

  • MMMMM I absolutely treasure any footage of the M&P at Monterrey.. if you guys dont know Phillips produced it so they performances there had to be A Game!!

And thats All Cass was ! :)

  • Sempre me reencontro com The Mamas and Papas. Pode ter sido ontem ou hoje.

Mas sempre há um espelho voltado para o Universo.

  • The Mamas end Papas. Good.

  • I was there that night. The M&P were great, especially considering having to sing cheerfully while enduring the rudeness of the many people who left as they took the stage and began. The M&P had the ill luck to go on with a folk-rock sound after the Hendrix and Who had raised the ante way past that.

Cass is stellar here. Can't help cringeing at the first verse, though---the bassist was way lost until the third line. After that brief clam, all was wonderful!

  • On the recorded version, you can hear her whisper the name, "JOHN"

  • oh man she was so sweet and what a voice and what a group. really love this band, many of there songs I have many.. great post..

  • Great singers but the accompaniment sounds weak.

  • Terrific video. M&Ps at their very best. However for some strange reason it freezes at 1:53... (?)

  • @bellachelito Que estupideces dices, rinoceronte africana

  • @OjoBizcoDelCulo ERES REPUGNANTE COMO TU NOMBRE.

  • .. Don't you know I can't sleep at night, since you've been gone - my youth.........:-(

  • Michelle's vocal presence on this is almost nil. Sometimes I wonder if she really sang that much harmony in the group. On the records (for the careful listeners), one can easily pick out the others vocal parts...but she looked good!

  • Beautiful. Thanks.

  • Thank you for I was raised during this period of time and seeing them again brings back some good memories of a good time in my life. Thank you

  • michelle was so hot !

  • The Mamas and the Papas really sounded great when they sang live, making it even more frustrating that their television appearances were all lip-synched. I guess that was because the musical arrangements were too hard to reproduce.

  • fantastic voice in live

  • Even if I'm a HUGE beatles fan...I definitely prefer this version.

  • monterey california thats awsome

  • cass is so into her singing;; thanks for this

  • This is one of my absolute favorite Beatle songs, but I always thought the Mamas and the Paps version was a perfect compliment to it Perfect. Somehow similar to Terminator I and Terminator II. I've listened to it twice now, and am going for a third. Thanks again for the posting!

  • @frankenstein909 jajaj yeah!!

  • @frankenstein909 Absolutely great version of the song. I understand that the Mamas and Papas did this song because of the huge crush Cass had on John Lennon, at the time.

  • I was mesmerized! So moving, all things considered. Thanks for the post.

  • Thanks for the upload,

    Your a star

  • @MrStablelad Thanks for comment!

  • Who's the maths teacher in the kaftan? Groovy!

  • If you're a singer you can learn live mic placement from cass. Watch how she points it off axis on I NEVER SLEEEEEEEP AT NIGHT.

  • Mama Cass a melhor do grupo!! Voz Linda demais!!!

  • Es difícl mejorar la versión de los Beatles pero ellos salen airosos del asunto, dándole un tono de jazz antiguo que el original no tiene.

  • I think the Ms & Ps would have been better if they had a baritone in the group. I suspect that John could sing a lot lower than he did but I think for some reason he didn't want to contrast that much with the others.

  • @JediSawyer John Phillips was a baritone, but Denny was the

    lead vocal

  • This is a much better rendition of the song in my opinion than the Beatles did with it previously.

  • @JediSawyer Yeah... well The Beatles didn't made a rendition to this song. They just wrote it. I guess John and Paul never gave it too much importance, since they made songs anytime they wanted just like breathing. But Th Mammas... gave it the proper feeling and the emotion the song was capable to get.

  • oh my god. they had sex?!

  • I met a man last year in Vista, CA, and we talked for a few hours, who was the Mamas' drummer for their first tour, as well as in the studio. He worked with the Wrecking Crew, of course. I asked him a lot of questions, about Philips, Phil Spector, etc. Very educational for me.

  • The Beatls did great, but I think I like it better with a woman

  • Classic Mama Cass!!

  • yuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Cass Elliot could really belt them out.

She died too young, so sad.

  • @mary45330 She died a long time ago. Cannot remember date but it was in the 70's I believe.

  • Thank you, thank you. I can find anything on youtube thanks to folks like you.

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK MAMA CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSS VOICEEEE DAAAAAM

  • É voz corrente de que Paul fez MICHELLE,para ela,Michelle Cass.

  • sweet:)

  • Great Beatles song.

  • @Marshallsg

To compare theBeatles version to this is crap

  • Cass was one of the all time BESTS!! She had such a pure, beautiful voice!! Imagine what she could have accomplished if her life had not ended so soon!

  • to the 10 or so idiots who gave thumbs down....B I T E M E ! ! Mama's magical voice will live forever...she sings next to Janis now!

  • @MrPhantom4 AMEN!

  • @MrPhantom4 Agora, são 17 idiotas. A voz de Mama Cass é linda.

  • Classic oldschool style

  • John may have ordered Michelle's voice stricken from all perfomances but, being a life-long M & Ps fan, I can still here her voice in bits throughout the entire Monterey set. Michelle had the almost dead mic that The Who almost destroyed in their set. If you listen to the album of the M & Ps set you will here that Cass has that mic in the beginning, the difference being that Cass's voice is so much stronger you can still here her plainly, if a bit more faintly.

  • E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T! What a great song! Thank you so much!

  • Too bad Mama Cass didn't have Michelle's looks cause Cass definitely had the voice.

  • Wow, Cass looked stoned out of her gourd and she still sounded great.

  • Great version of this song. Well arranged I thought. And yes, I'm in love with Michelle!!

  • great song

  • better than the Beatles... they probably didn't think of making a good version (apart from the "ska section"), as the song was meant for Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas

  • better than the Beatles... they probably didn't think of making a good version, as the song was meant for Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas

  • and so it's true . before john phillips died he admonished all his lawyers to strip the vocal of michele from all recordings and videos. actually he did this when he was alive.

  • Mama Cass Elliot se luce como siempre en todas sus interpretaciones!!!!!....linda gorditaaaaaa....con preciosa vozzzzz.....descanza en paz hermosa!!!!

  • Cass has one thing that American Idol doesn't even take into concern, it's called Talent! R.I.P. Cass,God bless you babe. "if there's a Rock n' Roll Heaven They've Got a Hell of a Band."

  • i remember seeing this, heard they were all fried on acid, so was their sound mixer that controld the volume deck. this is a great song but not one of their best performances. cass sure had a set of pipes. only other voice that i have heard come close to her is bette midler. i am not saying there arent any other greats i am just sayin those two together would have ruled the music world.

  • Cass looks wasted;Michelle's cute.

  • @HUSKY57887 she probably was! it was the 60's you know!!! very few people wasn't wasted back then LOL!!!

  • the beatles!!!!!!!!!!!!! -MUSIC

  • I have...have you?

  • Michelle had a mediocre voice. She was just there to look pretty and because John liked her. So if you like her better, go watch a video with just her in it you ignorant child.

  • i couldn't agree more. Cass was/is and, always will be the MM&PP's. J.P. Wrote "I Saw Her Again Last night" just so Denny had to sing it everynight. after all,at that time John & Michelle were married.

  • @rocknrolldaddio -- If you idiots knew as much about the mama and papas than you thought you did .... you would be dangerous.....-- and to sheblinkstears ,,I have watched several videos here on you tube with JUST Michelle in it and they were outstanding.... like I said before,,,, alot of these comments ,I guess are somewhat entertaining but not much truth in them---the rumoreville continues about one of the greatest groups of out time-------

  • @courtcol ur trippin' man

  • what a voice, horrible guitar.

  • No one ever had a voice like Cass Elliott! Glad to see and hear her!

  • Oh yesssssssssss!!! Got to be the greatest ever. Mama Cass that is. Poor Michelle didn't stand a chance.

  • Mama Cass > Michelle

  • Michelle had a very soft voice and could barely be heard over Cass. So in the studio they had to mix very astutely.

  • so fantastic what a privellage to have it on youtube ;o

  • man iagree with you such a privellage cass has a voice

  • momma cas was stoned.

  • so good singing live too especially cass

  • Cass Elliott was outstanding, and through her music she lives forever in our hearts. What a talent! She left us way too soon.

  • Listen to mama Cass , it´s getting better, great song.

  • Did Michelle contribute anything musically?

  • OMG, I listen to this over and over and still get tingling all over......Mama Cass I loved you......!!

  • What a beautiful and strong voice, Mama Cass you were amazing!

  • Only a moron will compare them with Beatles puppets.

  • Hey nobody should compare nothing. Beatles gave their piece to music, and M&Ps gave their. Personally i listen more to Mamas and Papas, but Beatles are also an important group in music's history.

  • Cass Baby - You left us too soon!

  • Very soon, sadly

  • God damn! The last eight seconds of this song are what makes this songs for me. God bless you Cass Elliott and your voice that could move any heart, mountain, or planet !!!

  • The problems with the older groups were simple, they liked to party as much as they liked to sing. And also never to be married to fellow band members, look at ABBA. Married--great music, split up and then the group breaks up

  • @wltflash And Fleetwood Mac.

  • It's ridiculous to claim that this wonderful group is the equal of the Beatles. Apples and oranges, just can't compare them! But certainly the Beatles wrote more songs and some better songs, although MP songs are great1!

  • The Beatles revolutionized music. If it were not for them we would not have had the Mamas and the Papas -so many!

  • Nah, John, cass and Denny were already performing in 1962 (remember "Please Please Me, The Beatles first single was released on December 1962) And anyway Psychedelic rock was created in San Francisco by the likes of Jefferson Airplane around 1965, (The beatles just recorded the Rubber Soul album) So The San Francisco bands would have existed without the beatles!

  • whos name was she calling this time? robbie?

  • mamas and papas were heads and shoulders above the beatles-musically and vocally, also, they have done most of their music by themselves-without the help of million studio musicians like George Martin, who has arranged and produced

most of best beatles songs like "day in a life'

    LSD and others.

  • I prefer the Beatles version, but this is far more "sing-able". Cass Elliott had a great voice, just amazing. Another rock band that might have lived longer, but the sixties got in their way.

  • Perfect. Yeaaaaah !

  • Love this Beatles song!

  • consummate performers! harmonics out the ying yang

    yea!

  • You can't compare the M&P's and the Beatles!!! Apples and oranges man...The Beatles are greatest rock band in the universe and the most creative and talented group that has ever been. Their shtick wasn't all hippie harmonies and San Francisco trips...The Mamas & Papas had their own unique sound and were on a different groove. No comparison...

  • Mama Cass!!!!

  • Someone correct me if I am wrong but was this not a Lennon and Mcartney composition?

  • John Lennon wrote the song even before The Beatles' formation. The song was first recorded by Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas, and was the B-side of their single "Bad to Me"

Lennon was supposedly unhappy with the arrangement and its being on the B-side of the single, so The Beatles recorded and released it on the 1964 Long Tall Sally EP.

  • You sorta forget how great a singer Mama Cass was. And the great harmonies they had. And why didn`t Michelle ever put a record out?

  • mamas and papas are amazing but WOW it makes you realize how no band can touch the beatles

  • the beatles were great musicians but their vocals weren't as good as the ones in bands like the mamas and the papas, Jefferson Aiprlane or Big Brother & The Holding Company. McCartney was the only one who could really sing and his work with Linda is amazing too.

  • ya okay birdbrain

listen to..... this boy, im only sleeping, a day in the life, girl and tell me john lennon doesnt have an insane voice

  • luv this song!

  • Mama Cass's voice just had this tonal quality that I've never heard before or since - it just burrowed its way into your soul. I loved listening to her as a young lad in the 60's - and she sounds just as good now here. Music in the mid sixties just blew me away. Most of the groups sang in harmony and sang about love- qualities not so prevalent today unfortunately...RIP Mama Cass - your songs will always be in my heart..

  • Que nostalgia Dios mío.

  • mama Cass!!! YEAH! Your voice lives on.

  • When Cass's heart stopped, So did the music!

    de Craig, so sad!

  • This is such a great son! I wish I was around when this group was.

  • Mama Cass RULES!!! I still have the original vinyl that my parents owned....replete with the scribblings of a late-60's elementary schoolchild.....

I remember emulating Cass (hell, I STILL do, LOL) as she belt it out as only SHE could....(whilst I held a hairbrush as a mic)....good times!! God, Cass could *nail* it like no other. Too damned bad she left us so soon. RIP, lovely lady with the voice of an angel.

  • What an instrument. Cass's voice is like some kind of auditory confection.

  • How many years ago, josi?

  • Cass is out of it ..Man !!!

  • captain, why do you say that? I don't see that - MHO

  • According to Go Where You Wanna Go..an oral biography of the Mamas and Papas...Cass was a little "under the influence" at Monterey

    Jim

  • It was said in a book about the group.... how can you not tell that she maybe be "on something"? Look at her eyes and facial expression....
