Roger Quilter is the composer but I don't recognise this version. I was an extra in this scene and it was supposed to signify Becki's acceptance in Polite Society. Reese Witherspoon did provide the voice but it was synced, as is usual. It was filmed on the hottest day in July 2004 and with all the fires blazing inside, everyone had to put up with much discomfort. It took the entire day to film.
Really, this is synced? it sounds really live...I didn't know that..makes me feel better though, it's depressing to see how so many actors can sing live :) I'm glad they don't :D
Can anyone please explain the significance of this song to the movie? I know there had to be some meaning by behind other that it just being beautiful and romantic.
Custer LaRue is singing...Such a lovely gentle voice. Reese does such a superb job-acting the essence of the romantic song. One of my favorite scenes.
1:46 am I the only one who gets excited at this part?

This very pretty and to me unfamiliar song makes me sorry to have missed the movie! I love the Quilter setting of the same poem.

They're wearing far more makeup than was worn back then. The only women who painted their lips and eyes at that time were prostitutes.

You mean the book? It's probably named after the Tennyson poem the song is based on.

I agree. It is, indeed, perfect, in many, if not all, respects.
