Neither are emo. They are both rock bands with darker imagery who were unfortunately and inadvertently swept up in a trend during the mid-2000's. Emo WAS a legitimate genre in the 80's and 90's for melodic hardcore bands, but anyone who uses the 2000s meaning of "emo" in a serious context is ignorant and doesn't have very much knowledge of music.
That said, I like both bands. Sing the Sorrow and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge are both classic albums. I prefer AFI but enjoy both.

Neither are emo. They are both rock bands with darker imagery who were unfortunately and inadvertently swept up in a trend during the mid-2000's. Emo WAS a legitimate genre in the 80's and 90's for melodic hardcore bands, but anyone who uses the 2000s meaning of "emo" in a serious context is ignorant and doesn't have very much knowledge of music.
That said, I like both bands. Sing the Sorrow and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge are both classic albums. I prefer AFI but enjoy both.
