  • Good idea...and yes this would shut it down...however it is very difficult to implement at 5000ft. underwater. You could get the first bolt out, and then loosen the others in time, (because they all need to be adjusted thto the same gap and the ROV is moving around.) Once that is done the plate must be inserted. Heres where the problem starts. When inserting the plate oil & gas will flare out removing the ability to see. The camera is down...how do you tighten the bolts?

  • never work

  • @32937isready

Not to be argumentative, but I would be interested in your reason for saying "never work." Maybe maybe a different approach or a completely different idea. I would be interested in your thoughts.

  • im sure yer not the first genius to offer a solution. they have think tank brainiacs to solve these things. theres a reason they haven't fixed it yet.

  • how could you see down there and how could you undo the nuts so deep?

  • good ideal !! they dont want too stop it for some reason were not being told??

  • @michaelbalexander I think BP believes the pipe may have been split below the sea floor and do not want to chance closing the pipe end thereby causing the pipe casing to become loose and unstable.
