This is a silly-ass exercise in wasted computer animation...then again, the whole concept of "drifting" is pretty silly-ass. To put Fangio and the Mercedes Grand Prix car in this context is a travesty. And, I agree with the Taruffi book quote below about oversteer not being drifting. At least, know what you're talking about, please.
That's a slide not a drift. The tyres would be worn through in a couple of laps if such a technique were to be used. In a drift the front wheels are in alignment with the rear wheels, that is they are pointing straight ahead and the car's direction is controlled by the amount of power fed to the rear wheels. The effect to aim for is to have all 4 wheels skimming the surface. This is seen in photos of the era when it appears that the car is pointing at the fence or the photographer.
old car need smooth style because lack in mechanical and "aerodinamic" grip.
wing cars (post 70's ) need better reflex and more aggressivity, more drag = more aggressivity, G.Villeneuve was an example of aggressivity in 80's, in 1990 was Senna, but Senna was a master also in smooth style ( Monaco victories, rain skill )
but if now a driver have good sensibidad can win now or yesterday.
MotoGP bikes have traction control and computerized fuel systems. The only difference is aerodynamic down force which is not possible to implement on two wheels.
Impressive, sure, but probably not a demo for realism. The Merc W196 was said by its drivers to be a finicky, tricky car to drive, which unlike the Maserati 250 *DIDN'T* like to be driven sideways. It'd want to swap ends, and spin.
Very skilled driver! And Elvis do this great driving in gold status -)

I love F1 but this old F1 looks better than todays F1. There were no computer controls in that cars.
RatmanXX 2 years ago 9
It's not the computers that ruin modern F1, it's aerodynamic downforce. Ban that and they would have to drive like that to be as fast as possible.
Look at bike racing: No downforce and they are racing like old F1.
GustavMeyrink 2 years ago
Bike racing has also no computers. So we also should ban all electronic from F1.

But, as my friend pantateam said, next time you better use the number 1 for the car.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
fangio nunca manejo asi.
