I think the people that thought the film was disrespectful, is because they do not want to be portrayed with a harsh psych like this movie portrays. You have to remember that when a soldier returns from duty, like in vietnam. They were treated emotionally terrible upon return by certain groups of people.

Other than that I think the movie was an excellent movie, but I would not go as far as letting it shape my opinion of the war and my respect for the military, and those who serve.

Personally, I thought Black Hawk Down was a far better movie. At the time that movie came out, who would have known that droves of Our Greatest would be experiencing similar war based scenarios in the coming years! NOT LOL

Hate to sound cynical but Transformers got all that cooperation from US military folks because movies that are heavy on the military "hardware" act as recruitment films for the Army/Air Force/etc.

The Hurt Locker, while very respectful of the soldiers it portrays would not have the same effect.

Films like "Full Metal Jacket" and "Platoon" got told where to go while "TopGun" gets full military co-operation because of the positive, "patriotic" light that it sheds on the armed forced.

The first movie I saw by her was Near Dark, back in 1987.
