  • sorry guys im gonna go watch porn now lol

  • Why in the HELL is holding a pizza during the interview?

  • I love PT's honesty man. Fucking Tarantino and this fucking idiot who interviewed sasha gray for the girlfriend experience. Say they never watched porn or like it for that matter. What kind of straight male doesn't like porn. Fucking admit it man we won't shame you for it. Right on PT! Tarantino still kicks ass though.

  • its funny how this video ends, "Give you a boner"

  • This interview calls for an Mmhmm-counter down in the right-hand corner.

  • heres the problem with all the "mmm"ing: it has a way of sounding like "yeahuhhuh. got it. hurry up."...so obnoxious

  • LOL at the very last word of the interview

  • Good lord interviewer...stop with the freaking noises.

  • Comment removed

  • What the hell is in his left hand when hes eating the pizza?

  • @Minus3Hertz I think it's the battery holder for his lapel mic.

  • the last second is the best part.

  • PTA is one of the greatest directors. He really needs to make a grand scale or just phenomenal film like Nolan's Inception. TWBB was amazing but not a huge film. He's great with characters and performances from actors so he should make a par TDK film. IT COULD BE THE GREATEST FILM EVER!

  • @SWIFTpr0 have you seen magnolia?? what more do you want, whats the point in him making some huge film, he has already made an epic, is it necessary for a hollywood wank off? i say again, have you SEEN MAGNOLIA?? on a par with the dark knight? i think so

  • @SWIFTpr0 TWBB absolutely owns Inception, what are you talking about.

  • @leisurelydinner ¬¬ I wasn't trying to say which is better.

  • @SWIFTpr0 you said he's yet to make a grand scale or just phenomenal film like Inception, Nolan fanboys make me laugh.

  • @leisurelydinner Honestly, I've changed my mind. PTA should just keep making films the way he does. I was convinced he shouldn't because of the way Nolan progressed from Memento. I'll also admit I am a Nolan fanboy but also a PTA fanboy. I simply enjoy great films. I even respect James Cameron fanboys even though we all know he's a complete douche bag.

  • Haha. Oh shit..How many Hollywoods talk like that, even him. I don't think he would say that today. I saw him promote There Will Be Blood and I thought he was the blandest guy in the world.

  • Mmm pizza.

  • fuckin love this guy says what he thinks and feels regardless

  • I wish Figgis would stop grunting 'mmh', it's fucking annoying

  • @drplbiftin its all the porn talk

  • seriously, why do i have other things to do besides watching this interview? what a glorious human being he is.

  • P.T. is a genius.

  • "its sexy that their on film" so true. seeing sex on film is so much better than on video. even like short sex scenes in mainstream movies can actually turn you on more than a full length porn video just because its on film.

  • PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON IS TRULY ONE OF THE GREATEST FILMMAKERS OF OUR TIME.HAS ANYONE SEEN HIS FILM "HARD EIGHT" ?

  • @MrSANCHEZPRODUCTIONS Hard Eight is fantastic! Hell of a debut film!

  • @Morttinen awesome man.it's about time i meet someone who knows good films.what's your favorite film from him?.mine would have to be "punch drunk love"

  • @MrSANCHEZPRODUCTIONS I'd have to go with There Will Be Blood, even though Magnolia and Boogie Nights are almost as good. Punch-Drunk Love is also very good but it's still my least favourite of PTA films.

  • @MrSANCHEZPRODUCTIONS great awesome movie. somehow its kind of ignored compared to the rest of his movies.

  • Jordan Summach, check it

  • last 5 seconds, hahahaha

  • Mike Figgis is all like: "Mmn, mmn, yeah, mmn, mmn, okay, yeah, I agree, porn should be a genre, mmn, umn-humph, yeah, okay, mmn."

The interviewer shouldn't be making distracting "umph" noises through an interview. He/she should SHUT IT.

Plus, this is all bullshit. It's just two assholes "umph"ing and "huh"ing about fake tits for ten minutes.

I thought Mike Figgis and PTA were total film fans. This is what it cums down to?

Just finish your pizza slice and move onto something better, assbabe.

  • What's he holding in his left hand?

  • @ScorseseKubrick It seems to be connected to his mic so guessing a mic battery or similar. What an amazing interview. First one I've seen with PTA. What a man.

  • i think is awesome he eating pizza in an interview

  • best. interview. ever.

  • Paul Thomas Anderson is a great director, but this interview is CRAZY, I havent heard such an in-depth discussion about porno in my entire life

  • fuck the interviewer,,, he keeps humming "mmhmm" he needs to shut the fuck up. he is so annoying

  • i love that the last word is boner haha

  • cry uncle is pretty close some russ meyer stuff too

  • he's on coke in this

  • @Grox true

  • Paul Thomas Anderson, You are a natural !

  • WOW! Besides completely agreeing with PTA's opinion, I've never heard anyone speak so openly and honestly about porn...amazing!

  • @KARMABRIGADE i think i just love it! haha.. and definitely a big fan of john holmes well, whatever.. he is an incredibly talented director whom imbued with special skill and sense

  • I'm paul thomas anderson

  • Youtube rocks! Good for people to be creative and show off their skills.

  • agreed

  • Love how this part ends with him saying "boner" lol

  • i wanna kick the 5 guys' balls who thumbed this video down

  • Great interview... "Porn as inspiration for great film directors" who know... we've got a small production company and are posting a series of videos about people working behind the scenes in the creative community... if you're up for it, give us a look and hopefully subscribe... thanks! -m.

  • 1.boogie nights

    2.sydney a.k.a hard eight

    3. there will be blood

  • @fallenthedemonangel No Magnolia?? :S:S:S

  • I would say the top 3 working today, Coen brothers are my #1.

  • I love P.T. Anderson, but imagine someone seeing him for the first time, in this interview, chewing on some pizza/tart, passionately discussing the virtues and possibilities of porno. XD It cracks me up.

  • Best director working just now? He's definitely right up there. Top 5 for sure.

  • PTA is the single best director these days.

  • I'm not into close ups in porn

  • extreme closeups are bad but minimal close ups are still cool

  • Luv da director...but why is he movin his hands sooo much???

  • He's eating pizza, dummy.

  • He is?! Oh my, it´s a pizza! :)

Can´t tell junk food from normal food these days... With all the chemicals in everything n all...

Is there even normal food anymore?

  • shut up you preachy ass motha fucka

  • Oh I´m sorry for being rude

  • I know what you mean!

  • I love how PT Anderson is just sitting there, being interviewed while eating a sandwich.

    He´s my hero.

  • 5. Hard Eight

    4. Punch Drunk Love

    3. Magnolia

    2. Boogie Nights

    1. There Will Be Blood

and i love all of them, i cant wait to see what else he does

  • His next project is loosely titled "The Master" which will star Paul Thomas Anderson regular Philip Seymour Hoffman as a 'charasmatic intellectual'. Supposedly the movie's story is going to be loosely based on the formation of scientology. I'm sure the film will possess the somewhat satirical atmosphere of "Boogie Nights".

  • The best cinema creature since Kubrick.

  • The interviewer sounds like he's cumming like a cock dog

  • Great interviewer.. "Boogie is your first film.." Jerkoff... get the facts correct first.

  • The interviewer needs to shut the hell up.

    "Mmmm."

    "Mmhmm."

    "Hmmm."

    "Mmmhmmm".

  • @PolysaturatedFat

I just don't understand that comment--- That's Mike Figgis, hes not an interviewer, he's one of the better hopes for the contemporary cinema industry we have; this format is proof.. He did Leaving Las Vegas, one of the greatest films of the 90s, of all time.

And the practicality of it... when your talking in a discussion, as a listener you intimate some confirmation that the ideas are understood and to encourage the 'talker' so he doesn't feel uncomfortable.

  • one of the best writers/directors around. Three classics with Boogie nights, Magnolia, and there will be blood

  • One of the best filmmakers working now...

  • Porn is just sex on tape. Sex is fun, it's fun to fuck. It gets your mind clear. How is that evil in anyway shape or form? Do you have a naughty, dirty, filthy penis that makes you evil? Like seriously wtf? Sex is just blowing your load to, nothing magic about it. Seriously if you think sex is "dirty", go fuck a midget.

  • @McNugget06

porn is evil from God's perspective and i have to agree. it's sinful and wrong.

  • God's not real and even if he was when did he say it was evil?

Read the book again, Mary of Magdaia was a whore who fucked for money. She was also one of Jesus' closest friends and seen with good character. How does fucking make you bad if it hurts literally no one.

  • Pornography is sexually oriented film designed to stimulate you. Just that.

Any alterior definition you add it is limited by your own perspective of the world.

From that high horse, funny how you overlook 3 things:

    - Porn did not invent lust. We feel it;

    - Stimulating to porn is a form of safe sex;

    - Sex offenders are people with a highly supressed sex drive (probably the result of "teachings" such as yours) that growing out of proportion, leads to sexual offense.

    Tell god that.

  • hahah " I mean, the goal of a porno movie is to give you a bon..." --cut! lol

dont agree on everything he says, but his movies are amazing! one of the best directors there is today, if you ask me.

  • This guys movies are artforms

  • That is a lofty goal

  • They couldn't have ended part 1 at a better spot lol.

  • lmao! This interview is priceless.

  • Barry: I have to get more pudding for this trip to Hawaii. As I just said that out loud I realize it sounded a little strange but it's not.

  • that annoying fucking interviewer needs to stop his little "mmmmmgg"s

  • that interviewer sadly beat pta to winning an oscar.

he also co-created walker, texas ranger.

  • you got to be kidding me.

  • actually woops got mike figgis mixed up with paul haggis.

don't know why, i thought it was strange for paul haggis to be on channel 4, mike figgis makes sense on the other hand

  • thanks for posting

  • I LOVED "Boogie Nights".

  • lmao at 6:18

  • The guy knows his porn. ;)

  • "They could be a genre."

    "Yeah."

"And they SHOULD be a genre."

    "I think so."

  • one of the best modern directors.

  • he IS the best

  • The guy is simply my idol. What a legend.

  • this guy has it all figured out man...

  • hes my idol and inspiration. paul you loudy queer god damn it.

  • greatest interview ever... he should make a porno of his own

  • The Dirk Diggler Story - Spinal Tap Style

    Boogie Nights - Goodfellas style

  • "I wanna see him fuck, I wanna see him defuse the bomb."

    LOL!

  • haha why is he eating a piece of pizza during this interview? ha who cares. he's paul thomas anderson. what a smart dude

  • damn straight. he can do whatever the fuck he wants. lol.

  • An intellectual discussion about porn. Who'd have thought?

  • PT should make a porno

  • hes much better than wes anderson

  • Comment removed

  • you can tell he's really inspired by porn LOL.

  • For 10 years Ive been I've been almost unable to sleep at night, just wishing "for 1 conversation with PTA." 30-minutes of his time to ask him simple questions about Boogie Nights.

This interview is by far the closest thing I've found. He is an honest inspiration for young storytellers everywhere.

Everyones blessed with one special thing.

  • @bobylone4598

    lol you need help

  • @bobylone4598 i actually got that chance a couple times when i lived in LA...worked at a movie theater and PTA came in and we talked...saw him again 3 years later at a restaurant, he recognized me and invited me to sit and chat...i was on cloud 9 each time...he is such a nice and cool guy

  • murder mysteries/fuck films lmao!

  • He talks the way I do; all hand gestures lol.

  • What the hell is that thing in his left hand?

  • This is priceless; Paul is super awesome.

  • who's teh girl in the top left at :05

  • hello. pta is great

  • Is he autistic?

  • No, just genius

  • HAHHAHAHA YOUR SOO RIGHT

forceofdust, "just genius" REALLY? Did you happen to know he copy's everything he knows from Stanley Kubricks work???? Ofcourse you didnt you dumb oky, he's not a Genius, he is an impostor, everything he does is from Stanley Kubrick! LOL at Joo

  • Fine, that's what you believe. I happen to disagree. There Will Be Blood is a far different film to any of Kubrick's. It's comparable, yes. But that doesn't mean it copies it. Of course, you're entitled to your own opinion as well, as I am mine.

Ok, you dumb oky? Now go pleasure yourself to eyes wide shut and stop complaining

  • Actually it says "based on".

  • Oh, stop judging people and take a joke. Besides, you're completely off the mark. And it was just a youtube comment.

  • Hmm... I know it may be a little late to intervene, but you both need to chill the fuck out... Your argument is off base, and this other bastard can't put forth a comment that could be considered a valid argument. I can't really see a connection between Anderson and Kubrick (in a non post modern way), if you wouldnt mind illustrating your point It might prove helpful... Otherwise your screwed trying to win over this crowd.

  • Actually, I don't think Kubrick and Andersson are similar. But, Andersson references 2001: A Space Oddyssey quite a bit in There Will Be Blood. And well.

  • And Tarantino sucked Godard dick in Pulp Fiction... Its not a big deal...

  • It's not to me at all no. I think the point he's tryin' to make works awesome using those references. I dunno how much is deliberate and how much is just Day-Lewis though. It's just a few people below were arguin' 'cos someone said PTA was like Kubrick. I don't think he is. But I do see 2001 in TWBB.

  • I can see a similarity, whether its intentional or not, but I don't think one should draw such harsh criticism (Ie bellow arguments) upon Anderson... What works, works. Its as simple as that. Blood is an amazing peice of cinema and certainly stands alone. Some people just see slight referances and start crying copycat. Directors share with one another. Can someone honestly say Kubrick is so original he wasn't influenced by earlier filmmakers. Dare I say I see a hint of Melies in 2001...

  • I wasn't being critical

  • Not talking about you, I was talking about the people who were arguing a few pages down.

  • My bad

  • Not a problem

  • deepfriedmuppet how did you get this amazing interview?

  • "I wanna see him fuck, I wanna see him diffuse the bomb"

Haha.. P.T. is a great director. Everyone needs to stop trippen if he's yayed out or not.. who cares?

  • Happy Birthday P.T.A.

  • I think he's putting too much polish on the porn industry. Porn films are the lowest common denominator in terms of film-making. There's nothing wholesome about them at all. It's purely impulse responsive smut.

  • completely agree

  • Comment removed

  • he's definately a quirky dude; its surprising that the tone of there will be blood seems totally opposite to his mannerisms and attitude...

  • i agree, but given the question i think it's because he's just being real... just being himself... which happens to be pretty funny

  • Didn't know he was this young. Cool.

  • "..i mean the goal of the porno movie i think should be to give you a bone-"

    LMAOOO, love how it ends

and why does everybody think he's on drugs? loll.

    he's acting perfectly normal.

  • LOL at PTA, a pizza in one hand and a lightsaber in the other.

  • he's not on drugs...he's just always jittery...one of my favorite directors...right after Stanley Kubrick and David Fincher

  • I never said he doesn't do drugs, I just said that he isn't high here. It seems like most PTA interviews generate comments about his baked-ness. I've seen interviews of him high and it is most certainly not like this.

  • Can you point out an interview where he's high for comparison?

  • Can't could be drunk. I always talk in that same exalted way when I am drunk.

  • Ghoulardi's son!

  • "The goal of a porno movie should be to give you a boner!"

  • Comment removed

  • He's not high here. If you want to see PT high, look up his three-part-interview on Punch-Drunk Love. Now THERE's a coked up motherfucker.

  • PORN?

  • For everyone that thinks P.T.A. is on coke is completely wrong. If he were on drugs we would know about it. He either would've probably had an overdose by now, been in rehab, or a lot of worse things. HE IS NOT ON COKE, OR ANY DRUG. He is just a GENIUS!!! Now everyone who thinks he is on Drugs is wrong, so leave P.T.A. alone

  • Dude, come on. Everyone has ben on coke at one point or another. You can't write stuff like he does about using when you've never been there. He's not a bad person, he's just a guy. Give him and everyone else a break.

  • I hate to break it to you man, but he's openly talked about drugs before, like "running around doing coke" when he was still working as a PA. After Boogie Nights I would be surprised if he had never done coke. I knew someone who saw him at a party in LA doing "so much coke" w. Fiona Apple. It doesn't mean cociane gives him his genius or even that he still does it. Scorsese on coke made Taxi Driver. Scorsese after coke did Raging Bull, Goodfellas, etc.

  • Guess what? Even those other brilliant directors ala Scorsese, Lynch, Gilliam, Spielberg, Lucas, Kurosawa, have all borrowed from other directors, Fellini, Tarkovsky, Ford, etc. There is really no such thing as originality if you think about it. Everything is borrowed from something else, whether it be film making, painting, nature, any stimuli. PTA may not be the most unique filmmaker, but at least he is a director who has an appreciation of his craft. He makes good films.

  • Perhaps you'd like to recommend some things for us heathens to watch?

  • Because it's almost entirely different from the novel. That's why he didn't credit it as a full adaptation. Anyway, i'm not disagreeing with you. And I'm not a fan of Anderson's other films. Just this one.

  • I disagree ScottyGibbs, Anderson seems like a boring confused teenager, Tarantino is much more fascinating and enthusiastic to listen to.

  • ... not saying Anderson is a bad director, both are amongst the greatest living film-makers we have today, but Tarantino can take any boring topic that Anderson might come across and make it more interesting...

  • what does that matter? An interview is an interview. They don't have to care if you are entertained. you're ridiculous

  • Well, they are talking about Boogie Nights, and it's easy to see how he was able to write Jack Horner and Dirk Diggler after seeing this interview. On the whole Tarantino is MUCH more juvenile but that's part of who he is, nothing wrong with it.
