  • Thanks rick,i very nearly just ordered the garret 250 but i think il put the extra towards and get the minelab explorer.I can see from the research that the garret is a good entry level machine but i would always have it in the back of my mind that im missing something lol anyway thanks again for your help rick.

  • ps/so if its exactly the same as before why do you need to swap the chip?

  • I was told it improved audio tone/amplified deeper signals, i admit i was unable to prove this in air or in the field. but the upshot is.. after spending £10 on the latest chip (in video) i was able to resell at a £75 profit and purchased a Minelab SE PRO, i could not afford two machines and was tired of digging hot rocks with the xp if i found a field with small hammered coins i would buy another but the Minelab Explorer (with a decent program loaded!) is a better every day machine.

  • nice job!

Im thinking of getting myself a detector to start a new hobby, ive been looking at the garret 250 but also like the idea of getting something like this to learn on have you got any advice for me?

i know you might say "get the garret" and if you like it upgrade but im from the school of bypassing the easy and go straight in at the deep end so to speak lol

  • BUY SECOND HAND AND SAVE A BUNDLE xp goldmax and the tesoro tejon are very similer in performance......

the original minelab explorer second hand at $500 or £350 would be the best bang per buck anyone could spend! search for the "tony hunt" settings... BINGO its as good as it gets and save $1000 on a new flagship machine!

  • thanks mate.:)
