Susan Tedeschi did them both a favor getting rid of her sidemen of questionable talent-- and Derek did the same with Todd Smallie, the unremarkable bass player in the Tedeschi Trucks Band. The only shame was in losing Yonrico Scott on the drum kit- he was amazing too.
Crazy to remember this song was arranged completely differently by Bob Dylan, but I like this better! Just like Jimi playing All Along the Watchtower or something, you know?
i have watched so many of these videos of dtb soul stew revival when he was with clapton, abb and the tedeschi trucks stuff and it just never gets old the dude is .. the ..dude he never seems to be trying to show off its over the top but it still serves the song truly one of the great musicians of our time
love that guitar. found the exact model, cleaned it up and "trucks"ified mine with that Sorkin bridge. they're rare as hens teeth and sound really unique. nice clip!
Is Derek's job redefining what "unbelievably amazing" is? If so he is damn good at his job. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the guy is untouchable...that's just my opinion of course based on years of playing, countless times seeing him live and perpetually being blown away by his category 5 playing. I swear if I lived six life times and played through em all I still wouldn't amount to level of Derek. Guy plays to your straight to your soul with that slide... or without.
@davomontgomeryda3rd ....I'd say you just about summed up my opinion on Derek. There isn't another musician out there that moves me with their playing the way Derek does. A total genius!
@davomontgomeryda3rd that is possibly the greatest comment i have ever read on you tube couldnt have said any better u just put my feelings into words nice
@davomontgomeryda3rd Read a great comment by someone that John Mayer is a cartoon character compared to Derek Trucks. That is true. My analogy after reading that is; John Mayer can impress me, Derek Trucks can move me. I've gotten misty eyed 'cuz of this guy's playing, and the first time I saw him, I thought I was seeing Duane's ghost. Friends felt the same way, but Derek has now been playing longer than Duane did. I dare say he's better now.
@davomontgomeryda3rd Some are just born to it. No amount of practicing could ever get either one of us anywhere close to his level. I've played for years too and Derek continues to blow me away. Guys like him are born with a gift, they have to develop it, but I think it's in them from birth. There are guitar players, then there are the Trucks, Jack Pearsons, the Chet Atkins and Djangos. The rest of us are just playing notes on a guitar. Some just have a level or two above the rest of us.

He got the wrong drummer for this one, but it's a great song.

@HotRodDrummer indeed I feel like what he plays doesn't totally fit the rest of the band's playing in this song.
