@KISSAproductions It is not illegal to copyright and sell music you make with any FOSS application. The FOSS licenses have to do with the code and applications themselves. Anything made using FOSS as a tool, like this, doesn't get affected by the FOSS license.
If you were to make a new program using the source code of LMMS, that'd be a different story and you'd need to research it more closely.
I have 2 machine here. 1 Windows with FL Studio 9 & Sony Acid Pro 7. The other with just Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I'll install LMMS on that one instead of Ubuntu Studio!
YES, finally!! I almost gave up my search for decent LMMS-made house/techno songs. Was looking for a reason to try out LMMS...and this is it. Just what I needed for motivation! Windows -alternatives are of course out of the question.
@flujotech Thanks, but I want to stick with something that runs natively on Linux. After listening to all your demo's then clearly LMMS is more than sufficient to make the deep sounds I like. The bigger question is AM I.... :-D
I have huge latency problems with Alsa in LMMS though... Maybe I should set up Jack.
Have you tried Energy XT btw? I just read about it... Don't know if it's any good for house music, I suspect it's better for acoustic sounds, but I could be wrong.
@shamaniac80 I played with it a little bit. It's pretty good but I didn't know what to do about vst's as the linux version didn't seem to load them. It's Nice program overall.
btw, check out AnseSource on youtube. He's made some really pro sounding tracks using LMMS.
@flujotech Hey flujotech, the reason why vst's dont work right off the bat is because you have to configure linux to recognize them. If you want to use a vst you might use in windows, you have to install WINE. WINE will make a virtual "C drive" that has everything windows does. You then copy the vst files there and presto.
I haven't started playing with linux yet, but I'm actually right about to install Ubuntu Studio. lol
Hey Attention This Goes To Anyone :) I Noticed That LMMS Is Used The Most For Techno And Sumkind Like That. Could someone answer my question: Does the Spectrum Analyzer come as a default or do I have to download it? If I need to download it, please tell me from where. Thank You.
@XxIchigoXHalibelXx I think it comes built in. On Linux there are a lot of free LADPSA plugins that you can select in your repo (software downloader) but I don't know about Windows.
The only thing I don't get about LMMS is the SONG EDITOR. How do you use it by any chance? I can't figure out how to use FX - MIXER, CONTROL RACK, & the SONG EDITOR. All I know how to use to make the beats are the TEMPO & the BEAT + BASSLINE EDITOR.
I've tried to expriment with LMMS, but it's so hard to work with.
Fl Studio have lots of plugins and it's easy to find the plugin you're looking for because it's only one or two of each plugin.
I've been on Fl Studio since version 3.1 and i created a very simple song by minutes.
I think these creators of LMMS should take a look at Fl Studio and how it works and improve LMMS to a more "easy to work with" layout and key bindings like copy/paste/cut.
@spectrospirit Yeah I know. It (LMMS) is still in alpha. As much as I love Linux and the freedom it provides, audio software (and less so video editing) software is seriously lagging behind. The developer has done an amazing job with this though. If it reaches version 1.0 then it will be a serious contender. Right now it takes a LOT of patience to use. Anyone who uses Linux full time has to have that in spades anyway. ;-)
@flujotech Still, you did a really good work there even though i took some time.
By creating this track, you have really showed us what this studio can do ^^
I really hope for the best for LMMS, i'm optimistic because in the end, the freedom will win in the long run anyway, observe, try out, learn & even copy, make better and so on.
And the best part is that it's all free, so anyone who want to create a track, can do that :D
@flujotech But i'll seriously consider using Linux full time if i come across a program/ plugin that can make Fl Studio work flawless untill LMMS gets better.
Really easy to use, how would i make music otherwise?
I agree on the work he has done in developing this studio though, really well done and the colours isn't as boring as Fl Studio either.
I'm just waiting for it to be a serious threat to Fl Studio, can't wait for it to happen ^^
If it's good & free, then it should speak for itself too :D

@Envergure It's called LINUX Multimedia Studio with a reason? Speaking of Reason, try it on your Windows, I love it. There's also Cubase as well, of course :)
Cubase is the one for me. For midi Logic used to win hands down but for audio Cubase is king and the midi side has caught up imho what with the midi plugin feature. The only thing missing is part looping, I seriously miss that.
If you use it with Jack and also if your latency is too low it'll be choppy. I used the internal plugins but tweaked the setting a little. You can use soundfonts with it as well - that's where the piano, bass and drums are from.
Fabulous! Demos like this really help in figuring out what is possible and which projects are still "live". The Csound-ish "music concrete" demos have a certain abstract appeal, but nothing like this.
Are the samples you're using here included with LMMS, available elsewhere, made by you, or ?
Thanks! There are a couple of percussion loops in the audiofile player but all the other samples are soundfonts, the drums, piano, bass; all available freely online. The rest is all LMMS, like the main whirley Rhodes type sound and the pads.
Great show of LMMS' capabilities. By far the most full-featured song I've seen. It's about time someone did this. This should be linked from the lmms site.
Awesome! I can tell you this is good because you have followed the 'clicks' sound flawlessly..you know..the metronome.. =)

You need Linux first of all...

There is a version for windoze too. Go to the LMMS site (in info section), all the info you'll need is there.

The Windows version doesn't work very well on either of my computers.
Envergure 2 years ago
@Envergure It's called LINUX Multimedia Studio with a reason? Speaking of Reason, try it on your Windows, I love it. There's also Cubase as well, of course :)

I don't like Reason. I have FL Studio. I would prefer Logic, but I don't have a Mac :(

Logic is a monster, I hope you get a Mac, with Logic U gonna fly...

Cubase is the one for me. For midi Logic used to win hands down but for audio Cubase is king and the midi side has caught up imho what with the midi plugin feature. The only thing missing is part looping, I seriously miss that.

FL Studio is probably the better option on Windows? For Linux this is the best thing so far, at least until Ardour gets midi.

Reason, to me, is the best option for Mac and Windows, I use it in both OS, but, LMMS is a monster...

Awesome song. When I used LMMS I thought it was choppy with the instruments. But this song is awesome.
What plugins did you use?
JordanMaster22 2 years ago
If you use it with Jack and also if your latency is too low it'll be choppy. I used the internal plugins but tweaked the setting a little. You can use soundfonts with it as well - that's where the piano, bass and drums are from.

Great app! i was playing around yesterday :) nice song!

Fabulous! Demos like this really help in figuring out what is possible and which projects are still "live". The Csound-ish "music concrete" demos have a certain abstract appeal, but nothing like this.
Are the samples you're using here included with LMMS, available elsewhere, made by you, or ?
tutufan0 2 years ago

@GoldBass
I absolutely agree. A tutorial on how you have done it would be amazing too.
