  • This may sound incredibly ignorant, but how the hell can a fuse stay lit UNDERWATER?

lol @ the butt pat in the Arby's commercial.

6:24 The glitch makes her voice sound like an android when she says "Anacin!" I love it.

"State your case a little longer" is so random for a Big Red lyric. They're usually "Hold tight", "Stay close", etc.

That is indeed an epic mustache on the baker. It's got curlicues and everything.

That's a hardcore disco beat in the Easy To Be Me spot.

  • @VhsHeaven Many types of fuses are multi-layered and are designed to be water resistant once they're lit, though they obviously have to be ignited out of water.

  • Dove had been using that "1/4 moisturizing cream" mention since at least the 1950s. A couple years ago I was watching episodes of an old short-lived late-1950s sitcom called "The Eve Arden Show" and the Dove ads in it made constant mention of it.

  • This is a couple of years before I was born, but it still takes me back :o)

  • According to IMDB, The Deep is 123 minutes. They really needed to split it up into two nights?

Does Hanes still make pantyhose? The only ads for it I see now involve Michael Jordan wearing T-shirts.

Did World Series heroes still come home by train in 1980?

Was there an Arby's in the middle of nowhere, or was the cattle drive through a suburb?

Last year, I think NBC devoted 4 hours a night to the Vancouver games. Here, ABC had time to show Eight is Enough. Olympic coverage has changed...

  • @MeInTX As is often the case with ABC Sunday/Monday movies, the version they showed was an extended version with many scenes not seen in the theatrical release. This extended version of the Deep ran 176 minutes long.

  • @MeInTX That wasn't the World Series. Obviously that wasn't a Major League Baseball team (I guess they didn't want to spring for the licensing.). Must have been a minor league championship! :P

  • I didn't know Denver's KUSA 9 used to be KBTV.

  • @38yofrmut KBTV is now the call letters of the Fox affiliate in Beaumont/Port Arthur, Texas.

  • Wait a minute. They said that Sunday was the network premire of The Deep. That's just false advertisement!!!

  • Ya! I really miss that shampoo ... It was great! :)

  • I recently saw a commercial for Verizon that used the Big Red jingle. My mouth hit the floor.

  • I liked the Dial commercial. I used to have a big crush on the stewardess when I was young. I like that 80's hair.

  • Do women even wear pantyhose anymore?? We wear Spanx today!! LOL

  • my hair really does look full i wonder if he can still say that 31 years later

  • first off. you rule !!!. 2nd-ly thats the 1980 olympics !!! the most historic upset is sports history. a moment that shocked the world. that little commercial has no idea lol...

  • I was only 6 years old when these commercials originally aired. They bring back memories of my long gone childhood. The actress in the Dial soap commercial was hot! She could have done that dance for me ANYTIME!!

  • "Beer Enriched" shampoo, PG rated movies that would be R today, Arby's sandwiches, silly soap dances, epic mustaches, advances in pantyhose, the Winter Olympics, and the assurance that everything is "all right" despite the economic issues and the international strife our country was facing during this time period, it's good to know that TV in 1980 was pretty darn amazing! Too bad we can't say the same for TV 30 years later, with the same issues facing America now that we also had in 1980.

  • The "Body on Tap" shampoo was the best. It didn't smell like beer. It was just normal shampoo with beer as an ingredient. It was very thick and had a great lather.

  • oh man glass pepsi bottles..I miss that

  • check *newspapers* LOL

  • Thanks for getting the Big Red and Dial jingles stuck in my head again.

  • Thanks for including one of my all time favorite pantyhose commercials.

  • @heysloppyroom Hard to see, but the TV Spot says "A Universal Re-Release". Movies were re-released to theaters often before home video.

  • Hey apparently pantie hose were popular back then. I remember going to the store and seeing them in those egg shape containers.

  • The 80s through 90s. Where every commercial had a tune. Now it's rare to have that. :(

  • Panties AND pantyhose in one?! DNW.

  • I had Arby's for the first ...and last time this past October...it was GROSS!!

  • It's not my favorite...but a plain roast beef and some curly fries isn't bad every once in awhile.

  • @80sCommercialVault There's one right across the street from me. I'll confess to spending far too much money there over the couple years since they built it. The potato cakes are awesome.

  • @lisamaria1972 Try their subs & you'll change your mind. Unless you're a vegetarian or (worse) vegan.

  • I use to love that Body On Tap Shampoo and Small Miracle Conditioner! I wish they still made those!

  • The KBTV news theme and promo package is titled "It's All Right Here." It was used from 1978-1984.

Its first go-round was created by Peters Productions, the same company that did the theme for sister station WXIA.

Its second go-round was done in 1988 by legendary news theme composer Frank Gari.

  • LOL at the winter olymipic commericals @ 7:20....Eight is enough is on right before it as opposed to today's 24/7 non-stop covererage for 2 1/2 weeks straight

  • you are the greatest thing to ever happen to youtube.

  • jaws was really rated PG???

  • PG-13 didn't exist until 1984.

  • Beer shampoo lol

  • The pepsi one is one of my all time favorite commercials

  • usa usa usa ! good to see these commercials on the 30th anniversary to the day of the miracle on ice, and oh yea we beat canada last night! usa usa usa !

  • I remember the Big Red commercial :)

  • Arby's sandwiches looked so much more appealing back then...

  • Mike Landis is still in Denver, but on Channel 7

  • ummmm......did that guy on the arbys commercial slap that kid on the butt?

  • lol i said almost the same thing

  • the beer shampoo is absolutely hilarious! do they still make that?

  • @fashiondesigner552: They do! You can find it on the Vermont Country Store. :)

  • Some of the best times of my life were spent drinking Pepsi out of a waxed paper cup with that old-school logo.

While Wheatsworth Chef's mustache IS pretty epic, it's not Rollie Fingers epic. He's still the mustache king to me.

  • I can remember drinking out of cups exactly like that at places like Sea World.

  • Beer Shampoo,i can see desperate alchys drinking shampoo ..LOL that pepsi commercial is like a condensed hallmark movie .hahaha..wow the "dial dance" lets try to bring that one back..

  • A couple of things: I really like that beer shampoo bottle, it looks so vintage even for 1980. I also love your remarks regarding the dial soap lady. You crack me up...LOL

  • i wasnt even born when these came out.. i love it :)

  • I've heard that Body on Tap was actually a really great shampoo. I miss 80's shampoos; they had stronger smells and scented your hair better.

  • Can I just say how much your comments in the sidebar crack me up? 'Cause they really do haha!

    Especially this one:

Dial (After a few days of doing that little dance, I'm sure she was committed by her co-workers)

  • wut the crap!! beer shampoo!?!?!?!?

  • Another great video!!!! Hair on Tap?!? Beer Shampoo, LOL!!

  • "Body on tap" has to be one of the wackiest products i've seen advertised on this channel

that Hanes ad needs to have a sequel. i need to know if that guy scores

i totally forgot about the Big Red jingle. I LOVED that! i used to sing it all the time

i have to say that those "no nonsense" things make more sense than those damn thongs

i don't know why i would need my nails to "look wet even when they're dry"

that pillbox hat she's wearing in the dial ad is pretty epic

  • Gentlemen DO Prefer Hanes... as well as they prefer Levante Wolford DKNY Aristoc Fogal Oroblu DIM Pretty Polly Filodoro Charnos Cecil.d Berkshire Peavey Calvin Klein Givenchy Cette Capezio Victoria's Secret LeBourget Hue LaPerla Sarah Borghi Trasparenze & Levee

  • Look for the new Verizon Parody of the Big Red commercial.

  • @tabooman That might just be my single favorite commerical of all time.

  • 30 Years Ago Thanks!!!!!

  • *GASP* Beer on Tap! OHMYLORD! I had nearly forgotten about that! Oh, that classic bottle too...

I LOVE YOU! *BIG HUG AND KISSES TO 80's Commercial Vault*

  • I was wrong!

Nice to see that Nabisco employed medieval bakers into the 1980s

  • I really like this Classic Pepsi logo.
