Yes this was after Katrina and the mess on the ground is just from the parades. New Orleans is actually so much cleaner since Katrina. They finally hired a decent waste management program and I haven't seen dirt yet...lol. And there is no more smell...thank goodness!
Can't say anything bad about the band other than the ugly colors. But, damn! Look at that nasty place! No wonder it smells like corn dogs all over the place!
Good song for that long narrow space- not just in the downtown canyons but Uptown, too. Some songs get lost played by a band so strung out, and it must be hard to play when you're so far away from other sections and can't hear them (I wouldn't know) but LSU really pulled it off. The kids were all very relaxed, too. St Aug is exhausted by Mardi Gras day. Younger less experienced kids and they march in everything. They may still be in Flood chaos but having a top notch college band was a treat!
its pretty tough, but singing is actually harder. Usually, the "band members can't sing" stereotype is not far from the mark. still, it's not like there are any harmonies or melodies...
Rex this year went to Tulane, LSU's big private school rival. I mean a blood feud going back a century rival... So he was stunned at what an amazingly fine band this was and how it fired up the crowd for him. Usually St Augustine high school's marching 500 has this spot, but this is a smaller and more skilled band, it was wonderful! I was there.
