i never been crazy about liteskin women.all blk women are beautiful but society has pple thinking liteskin is best, well has some of us anyway.my point not all men think liteskin is better than darkskin women,i always prefered dark and brownskin women but all are beautiful.
Wait Lauryn Hill was a TOP chick, than she left/changed. Has Beyonce/Alicia ever been on Time magazine and stuff like that like Lauryn?! But she is poised for a comeback maybe she will did it again. Anyhow enjoyed your video sweetie!
@BarbieD0llCandee Very true! but you know that will always be the case! Society will never point out the obvious. But we are certainly not the only race to wear weaves and so forth. But who cares! I'm glad to see in this day and age more black women loving themselves as they are no matter what they decide to do to their hair or whatever. We've definitely come a long way! Thank you for your comments! :-)
It's not society it is the devil..the enemy is finding another way for us to go backwards..vonnj007 you are beautiful woman are the most precious thing in the universe..woman you are to stuck up on the fashion thing..God gives a child to a woman becuz they are the best teachers..Every woman is sacred i respect everything you are saying..Keep on working on making people better
Well, being honest, I think Alicia does have a slightly broader range and her sound seems a bit more full. But India.has more depth with her lyrics and her sound is a lot smoother, funkier and more cultured. Speaking of smooth, India is finer!! Both women are very attractive. So neither woman has it all but I appreciate it all from both women.
@woodie62 Good point, two totally different sounds. But inmy personal opinion India can sing circles around Alicia. But they are both amazing song writers. To each his own. Thank u for ya comment! ;-)
@vonnj007 You're very welcome, dollface!! And it's okay that you have a little "grease" in yours. I could say soooo much about you!!! But I'll leave to the other commentors; they'll say it all, if it's good!! ;-0)
Personally, I love the dark, strong west African traits in women. It's a shame they don't seem to be popular in American pop culture. I love natural nappy hair on a black woman.
I agree with u for the most part but Alicia should won w/e award not because she is lighter but because her album sold more and Indie Arie does more neo soul which typically doesn't get as many accolades as r&b and hip hop be careful not to search out discrimination. there's a lot of it out there but not every thing boils down to race and skin color. I'm also chocolate and I have all those comments that you've mentioned also I have always had long, natural wavy (not coarse hair). Great vid btw
Ok, well said! I'll give you that. Pop/r&b definitely does sell more than neo soul. But a part of that has to do with the pop artist being accepted inot mainstream media more often and easier than the neo soul artist. BUt again, thank u for your insightful comment. And I will admit, i do have to remind myself not to be so biased at times! So thanx! ;-)
@haylo42083 Thank you. U make a valid point. I will admit that the the genre of music and sales definitely played a key factor in the awards, however, I do feel if India was more widely appealing to our "society's" eye, she would have maybe gone a lot further. Thank you for your comments and for your well wishes! Sorry I'm so late on responding! ;-)
UNBELIEVABLE! lmao! it's really sad and pathetic that you would even try to start some beef about my hair being fake! How old is this video!? Seriously?!? get a life!
I love your speech. I too am Brown/chocolate. I used to think I was darker than what I was too! Growing up around lighter people (whites) can really make you think your extremely dark. Even though thats still beautiful as well. I refuse to be a female who hates herself for being black, or her skin complexion, I believe I'm a beautiful bombshell. I'm sick of us blacks going by societies standards, it leads to a dead end of self hatred.
I definitely understand what you are saying and agree whole heartedly for the most part. However, Natalie Cole, Anita Baker, Janet Jackson,Shanice,Diana Ross, Patti Labelle and many more I just cant remember their names but they are all considered "chocolate" and are very talented singers and made it to the top! I'm sure you will make it and I'm routing for you! Abundant Blessings!
Alicia Keys vs. India Arie....I mean that's up for interpretation...I personally think they are both extremely talented vocally and when it comes to song writing...its like a tye for me regardless of all the skin politics.
Apart from that example i agree with pretty much everything else you said
Even if India sings better than Alicia, Alicia is still prettier. I like long hair that smells of shampoo. I really dont enjoy the dreads and kinky twists or whatever. I wont tell someone not to do it because I respect the person's choice, but in most cases I dont enjoy looking at it, or I really dont enjoy smelling it.
As for proving that my beautiful hair is real...i wouldn't dare give u the satisfaction! However,u had the chance to see my other vids, and in one of them i took off a wig and pulled my hair out with my fingers! So again..i'm sorry that you're probably a bald headed unattractive rat, but I certainly am not! LOL! And by me saying that I just stooped down to your level, but its all good! I'll recover! Sometimes it just feels good to say whats on your mind..even when it isn't nice! Good riddance!
You know what, you are obviously an ignorant immature person starving for attention and someone to fight with you, and I won't be the one to do it any longer! Nor will I allow you to say such idiotic things on my vids! Consider yourself officially blocked! and F.Y.I. come to any Dominican Salon in NYC and you'll be sure to see tons of beautiful black women of all complexions with hair down their backs! Stop letting the media fool you and control your views and beliefs of African American ppl!...
sweety...if u think Alicia sings better than India Arie, you have no right to be commenting on anything! ask any real singer or musician who sings better, and they'd laugh at the thought of you even putting the two in the same category to be judged! LOL! and second...sorry to burst your bubble hun...but i don't have a weave! EVERYTHING on me is home grown!
brown bone, red bone, yellow bone..just another thing to seperate us as WOMEN and human beings. Im sure the KKK is just laughing it up now.I love how people just analyze the pigment of the skin and categorize people..woow...great job. whats next?
soo what! its on topic...just because u didnt mention it..dont mean i cant say it. ITS A STEREOTYPE! and since u were talking about sterottypes within your culture, there are certain stereotypes about others. sooo i was addressing the narrow minded people.
ok! i feel u! and i totally agree with u! but it sound like u were attacking me or correcting me on something 'I' said! that's why I responded the way I did! and incase u didn't realize u weren't purposely left out, my video was a reponse video to a topic someone ELSE started! which is why my topic was what it was.
im sudanese..look at north africans,(egyptians, sudanese, algerians, morroccans, etc) my hair is down my waist...so to stereotype africans as black and kinky haired is stupid.
yea, once again! i had to go back and watch my video to see what u were talking about. I never even mentioned Africans. I was including them but i only said African American. I also said that there were tons of women of all shades that had hair down their backs so...again, i'm lost with what u must have heard? maybe u were commenting on the wrong video? i don't know.
but this sounds kind of hypocritical... u said that color didn't matter and that women are beautiful regardless,,, but then again u want to "represent" for the darkskinned women, setting yourself apart again; into a group. ???
yes! and I stand by that! all women are beautiful butits time for someone to be the spokespreson and stand up and prove to the world that darker skinned women are included in that! its not to say we are better but that we are even acknowledged when it comes to beauty!
