"I would prefer this [to a future.]" = "I prefer the present moment to fiction." Yet another example of how Katie is enlightened. Thank you Katie. (reference to the very end of the dialogue.)
She reminds me of " Chance" the charachter int he Jersy Kosinsky novel. He's say anything and people would "think too much" about what Chance would say and that way chance got turned into a Genius.
when She says "I saw a roach crawling on my feet, there is not story" that is all it means folks! it does not mean anything else and it does not make this lady enlightened. She's always like in a daze. I'll try this technique at work and see if I can get away being meaningless
her teachings are very simple, seeing the reality without any additional story, realization of the "naked" Reality.
"doing the dishes"or 'brushing the teeth" simply means living your life without unnecessary analysing your every step. When the body says- feed me or dress me, or eat something, you just do it. the same when you feel to paint, sing, or write a novel. Katie says : just do it. We question our natural impulses and feelings too much, and we let the mind take over. alan is tense here.
Waw! Thank you so much for posting this, and Alan is really a great interviewer, I love hearing him and I experience him as able to really listen to Katie!
Staying absolutely present, without heeding the mind's pleadings to go elsewhere. She describes it as staying aware of every detail in ordinary existence, and doing the dishes is an apt metaphor. The mind stays in control 100% of the day for most of us, and we act like robots, paying attention to our thoughts like they are whispers from God. She doesn't give thought to the day-to-day things anymore, knowing full well the mind likes to dissect things until they are lifeless.
Is the doing the dishes thing similar to Karma Yoga: do something for the sake of doing it, without gaining personal benefit, kind of cleaning your heart and cleaning your mind???
Doing the dishes is doing what comes next, to the mind this is boring, but it is actually how the awakening mind functions, to live in the present moment is to be free of future and past, doing the dishes is therefore living in presence, simple and beautiful
im finding this subject very hard to get my head around. So, why did she brush her teeth in the end? Was it because she just knew that she should beacuse it would cause problems if she didnt or was she just following the voice? What was the voice? Just an internal knowing or was it something external OR WHAT?
I remember hearing Katie say that early after her shift it was not easy to find the words for it, that she had to learn & continues to learn how to explain it (to assist others). There is rationale for everything she says but it seems that many who have such an experience, the words may not show up right away. I appreciate so much that she shares it at all! I find it very helpful.
She is lovely, clear like a crystal. I love how you bring it out of her with your questions. You too are becoming quite shiny, Alan -calm and serene in yourself- . . Thank you . .
I love when she said "I have no future." so certain.......... gods speaking.

Thanks you for your explanation.
Does that mean, you simply don't question what you do and just do it?
The awakening mind means the present mind?
Thanks again and best greetings from Majorca

Brilliant -- What a gift Ms. Katie's experiences are to all, especially anyone who is depressed.
