  • i bended a plate of metal on 2 sides, it works for a long time but it doesn't really repair it... gonna buy myself i new one i have the same problem.

    greetz

  • My Acer 4745 laptop hinge broken !!!

  • IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND MY POST FIND SOMEONE WHO WORKS REPAIRING FIBERGLASS FOR CARS OR (OTHER) AND SHOW THEM MY POSTS. IF THEY KNOW THEIR STUFF IT WILL TAKE EM ABOUT FIVE SECONDS TO EXPLAIN. ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND IT'S ALL SO VERY SIMPLE. THIS AIN'T ROCKET SCIENCE. USED THIS TO MAKE EXOTIC SPEAKER BOXES AND OTHER FOR MY CAR. THEY MADE THE HINGES TOO STIFF FOR THE STRENGTH OF DISPLAY CASE EXTERIOR WHERE HINGES ATTACH.

  • CLARIFICATION YOU CAN STACK SIX LAYERS AND GLUE ALL AT SAME TIME. USE AS LITTLE RESIN AS POSSIBLE. IT'S THE CLOTH THAT CREATES STRENGTH. IF YOU'RE ARTISTIC AND IMAGINATIVE YOU CAN STILL MAKE IT PRETTY. SAND WHOLE BACK OF CASE AND USE KRYLON SEMI FLAT BLACK SPRAY PAINT OR YOU PROBABLY HAVE A MORE IMAGINATIVE SOLUTION. Carefully sand broken edge with toothbrush & silicone carbide powder to not change it's shape for a VERY SNUG FIT

  • Silicone Carbide powder 400 grit is simply black wet dry sandpaper without the paper and without the glue holding it on it. You acquire it from an abrasives dealer. Type Thomas Register or manufacturers directories into Google. You should remove screen from case. If you get the grit or the paint into the computer it's toast. REMOVE ALL PAINT FRONT/ BACK TO BE FIBERGLASSED,ALL SURFACES TO BE FIBERGLASSED MUST BE SCUFFED AND ABSOLUTELY CLEAN, NO OIL, WAX OR GOOK OF ANY SORT. GOOD LUCK

  • They made hinges too stiff so it breaks off corners of case. It should be fiberglassed inside out. EVERYTHING to be fiberglassed MUST be scuffed. This spread torque over large surface.Scuff edges (where broken) with toothbrush with half bristle cut off, makes it stiff. Stack 6+ layers on outside. Use as little resin as possible. Dries very fast like a rock. It may not be pretty but it will be strong IF YOU PREPPED IT. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PREP!!! No prep NO STICK !!!! Will last forever

  • Remember IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PREP NOT THE GLUEING !! Acquire 400 grit silicone carbide powder Remove all paint front/rear using powder (use toothbrush water & soap) or sandpaper. Sand edges to be joined with powder. ALL surfaces to be glued have to be 400 grit scuffed. Use fiberglass cloth & polyester laminating resin. Stack 6 layers on outside of case, saturate cloth. Scuff next coat with powder if necessary. You will only be doing corners about 4" square + inside.Mask carefully or it kills pc.

  • Hi

Can i have ur email please or u can mail me jenwol at zonnet.nl

    Thanks

    D

  • I have the same problem... but its minor.. good thing you pointed it out.. whew thank you soo much

  • Same problem here with same model (Aspire 9410Z). Don't know how to fix it, we'll try to call some specialized shops, maybe they could fix it easily. I'm sure it's nothing, but they always do it to fuck you at the first problem you get, to make you buy again.

  • @angeldeath57 hello... just curious,,, did you get yours fixed.? can i know the cost.? cause my 4 year old acer (aspire 5572) is having the same exact problem... i cant close the lid for more than a month now... i need to know whether its worth the fix...

  • @cheekymafia Finally i unmounted the front of the screen. Then i try to do my best with this fucking hinge. It wouldn't work as usually. I put it as well as i can so that the screen was aligned with the hinge. Then i put back the front of the screen, and that's all. This laptop is still at the same place, so it wasn't a problem to let the screen open all the time.

(Sorry for my English btw, i'm French)

  • @angeldeath57 owh... so you decided to solve it on your own afterall... herm... mine... i cant let it open on the desk all the time, i really need to get it fix at the store coz i need them for classes... but i guess imma try to do what you did in order for it to be carried all the way for the servis... thank you for replying..!!! (you're english is fine... probably better than mine... :D )

  • you can only buy a new lid. this is where the fault is, most acers are the same..shit deisign

  • i have had my 9410z for 3 and a half years and never had a problem. only thing i dont like is the piece of s@$# processor and graphics card. cant play a f#&*@!$ game on this stupid thing

  • BTW when I got the part for the manual pump, it was actually a corrected re-placement part. I guess the part that broke was a common thing that happened to that model. So they CORRECTED it and sent me the re-fabricated re-placement part.... For FREE!!! That is service Acer!!, not "oh yah we'll fix it for $260.00".

Sorry guys for the whole pump thing, but it was the best example of customer service that I personally received, that I could think of.

  • Sorry. Cont'. Piece of crap would just break again!! I got better service when my manual breast pump broke. I emailed them about the problem and ask what it would cost to get a re- placement part. Didn't get an email back but when I checked the mail three days later they sent me the part for FREE!! Now that's service, Acer could learn a few customer relations lessons from them.

  • I have the 3620 or should I say had. I took very good care of mine, then BAM out of no where a crack appeared on the right side hinge, then the left. I discovered that it was a common problem so, I emailed them and they wanted $260.00 to fix it!!!!! RIP OFF!!!!! I looked on eBay thinking I can just get the case and my brother inlaw can put it together. But after reading these reviews and other complaints from various blogs, f$&@ it. Even if I did get it fix, piece of c$&@ would just do the same

  • I HAVE THE SAME FRIGGIN PROBLEM! mine laptop's aspire 9410Z and until a second ago it was only one broken hinge (the same side as yours is) with the outer cover of the LCD cracked on the other hinge and now the second one is totally broke! my parents are pissed and don't want to buy me a new one! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!?!??! anyone help! :(

  • Anyone tired of this happening to them, feel free to join us on facebook as Acer Laptop Victims

  • I have a very similar model(the 9410-4933) and the same thing happened to me except not now is both hinges are broken. I would get it repaired but the extended warranty is up and there are numerous other problems such as the battery only lasts a minute(literally.), the screen is screwed up(this happened before the hinge thing. The screen turns white or black and you have to move the screen around to get it ti work) and 50% of the time it doesn't recognize there is a dvd drive until you reboot it

  • umm u could of fixed it 4 like 10 -50 bucks

  • Acer laptop hinges are shit. My sister had the exact same problem as yours. Now I have an Aspire 4810TZ-4508 and the left hinge is starting to mess up. It makes a cracking sound every time I move it. I will never buy an Acer again. Their hardware is shit and their service is shit.

  • Mine is not hinge related. Dell however, another story! You need to loosen EVERY bezel screw (hidden under round covers), then pry the two bezel halves with micro screw driver. Do you have issue with anything NOT working??

  • I have this exact laptop and this EXACT problem! I HATE ACER! Their customer service is CRAP!!

  • @PeeEsPee ALSO DON'T waste your money on fixing these defective laptops! THEY WILL JUST BREAK AGAIN!! I've fixed mine TWICE and the case broke AGAIN.. This is just a terrible laptop.. SELL THE PARTS and try to get as much as you can out of it.. :(

  • my shitty acer did this to me fuck acer sue thier asses

  • @dickmharter Class Action Lawsuit? Count me in. The wire along both sides is most likely the WiFi antenna which most companies build in the screen section

  • The same happened to me yesterday. The laptop shown in the video could be mine actually!! So annoying... Acer will not take responsibility for that.

  • did you fix it and how did you fix it? since my crappy aspire does the same thing and when i disassembled it it's hinge broke off in half and the bulk part is the portion that makes the two screens go apart,,,,

  • @hoilen no, when i tried to get it fixed it broke the whole computer some how, so I had to get a new laptop. you can try to take it to a best buy or something cuz I know they offer services to fix them

  • The exact same thing happened to me also, on the left side though... i am still using mine but I am looking for a new one

  • mine has the same problem i left it like that for a while and it broke the platic at the front then eventually the other end came loose too... so i had to put ductape over everything ... just try to ductape urs really really tight and that shud solve the prob for a while

  • have my built completely from each other. as you can see quite as shitty acer works. with acer one has to first disassemble the entire display to get to the motherboard and provides a total of 50 screws. MacBook there are eight simple screws that must be and it is on the motherboard.

AND, Yes It is. You want a really extreme hard glue

  • with me is half the housing broken

  • its normal for acer. i have the each model, and my grapicsprocessor is broken. dont play on your bed.

  • this has happened to me as well (on the left side) but i cant close my laptop cus im scared of it snapping completely .

  • @KDT008 I was too... it pops but doesnt break

  • Acers laptops are annoying for the hinges my brother and i both have the same laptop same problem i am searching for a place where i can buy the screen and repair it myself. Best of luck too you.

  • @ipwnmoviez It's called EBAY (hint hint)

  • mine did the same thing. I have a dell though and it happed on the left side. they said no.

  • I have that with my acer aspire 9410Z
