I think he is using gimmick cards, that have different things printed on the same card (like a red ace printed on the other corner of a black card). Notice how he always covers up a corner of the card when he shows it.

Yes. There is a way to do this without using a gimmick but I would recommend doing what I did - get it from Penguin Magic. They generally give good explanations, have videos online or DVDs, and discussion forums for most of the tricks they sell.
