Just so you guys know, this movie is spot-on exactly like Digimon: Our War Game. (The movie where they go into the internet and save it from an evil digimon). Except that this movie doesn't have Digimon, it's OZ avatars instead :q No surprise there, as the director of Summer Wars also did that Digimon movie.

Note though that the theme of the movie is the power and love that comes from the support of your family. So it's more than just "save the internet, save the world" :>

@lishakara well actually it only carries one pattern of mamoru hosodas works and that science fiction. yes the bad guy is on the internet but in this one it may still have been crated by a human but for different purposes. diaboromon was supposed to be a friendly digimon but love machine is a hacking AI that was still being tested. the stupid mistake that the U.S. government made in the story of this movie is to have done tests in Oz.

I don't think it's much of a point to compare Tron and Summer Wars. They both take place in cyberspace mostly, and they both involve saving the cyberworld and/or world, but that's really the only similarity to be had.

@ssiss5910 I've never seen it, but from what I've read, some sort of evil person or people or whatever (I forget, gomen ne) hacks it, sends in a giant virus dude that eats cute wittle avatars, and 2012 becomes 2009 and if they don't stop Armageddon from happening in the time limit, we're all gonna be pancakes...um, pancakes on fire.

@ssiss5910 actually, it's a hacking AI (artificial intelligence) that was still under testing. the U.S. government thought it would be a good idea to put it in oz to see what it would do. that was a very stupid idea. part of how this affects the Jinnouchi family is that someone from that family developed the AI. so now that its loose in oz and thinks that everything is a game, it can cause as much trouble as it wants. for the full story look it up on IMDb or Wikipedia.

It looks good, but I can think of so many other OVAs that SHOULD of made it to movie theaters. I can think of so many other anime movies and TV shows that could do well in the US if they were given some half decent marketing, time slots and half a chance.

So why this movie? Again, it doesn't look bad, but it also doesn't jump at me as being so amazing that out of all the other movies and shows out there that this movie should be in US theaters and not other anime.
