i dont know why but i feel like im in a 1930s gambling hall and i have maralyn monroe looking bitches around me drinking and laughing with eachother while i just casually woop everybodies ass as craps
Wow, they have come a long way. I have their first two albums from the mid-90's when they were more acid jazz. I am really diggin this joint. Hip, modern, catchy and just flat out smoooooooooooooth.
I've always been a fan of many genres tho im raised on rock 'n' roll music, especially jazz and electro. And now that I've discovered the true beauty of acid/electro jazz, I camt get enough of it!
Although I love how Free The Robots has taken a nice song and turned it into a dance remix (that is what I would call it... you might call it something else), the original song has more musical material than is presented here... it has a bridge with different chords, and also goes into a major key (from the minor key).
Still, it's nice to hear an electronic dance number with melody and chords (even if mostly not new)... I don't hear that too often.
@sekis9 Thanks for the heads-up. As it turns out, the song "Love", sampled here by Free The Robots was written and composed by Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin, and featured in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1946, as well as in the movie "Black Entertainment", where Lena Horne sings a very memorable version (which you can see here on Youtube). Chet Baker later recorded it with strings, and this version that is sampled here.
I love this. It sounds like some sort of combination between Mr. Scruff and Flying Lotus; just brilliant.

it definitely sounds like Chet Baker's Love (from Chet Baker & Strings) but im not sure if its just a sample or a cover.
