unlocking means it removes the sim-card req (AT&T for phones from states), and u can unlock it after u jailbreak, and u can even use it without SIM, u just cant call / send sms (so no hurry for unlock, doesnt mess up anything)

i used Blackra1n to jailbreak my 3gs (3.1.2) and also jailbroke using the snow. I could install cydia and a lot of apps after that. However if i reboot the device it goes to recovery mode and never comes up- i have to again connect to PC and then run blackra1n again !! how can i over come this ? Is it not fully unlocked ?

jailbreak & unlock for iphone 3gs & ipod 3rd gen are *tethered* which means, if it initially turns off (reboot, battery dies, manual turn off) then it'll re-lock itself.

i heard that if you have itunes installed on your pc that you should open up windows task manager and click on processes, and end the task for itunes or any other apple process. and then run it. but also copy the blackrain.exe to your c:drive desktop. good luck. just passing the knowledge along.

so when i run blackrain, it says yeah jailbreak succesful wait to reboot, but after my phone rebooted, i'll get to the screen with itunes in the background (i can't get to the homescreen, just emergeny call possible) then i connect to itunes but it says your sim card is not supported....

It was success in jailbreaking and unlocking. But, i hate to tell you this its also tethered for iphone3gs 3.1.2 11.05.07. When i restarted my phone the screen just shows the itunes icon and usb. So i restored it now using itunes itself again, not jailbreak and unlock anymore. Any advice?

Why would you want to restore to a custom 3.1.2 FW? You should use a clean version of 3.1.2 FW then use Blackra1n RC3. If you're trying to downgrade then use another FW pre 3.1.2.
