@stephentsang2000 Because when he preaches to his own people he has a bad habit of saying certain things that spook large parts of the voter base (like when he went off slagging off the NHS to Fox News in the US).
Where do you think all the votes went? To Nick Clegg...? Bliar got in with LESS votes than that idiot Kinnock LOST with, and why? Tories deserted in droves-WHY? Core issues such as the EU and Immigration. UKIP is the Tory lovechild.
Nothing wrong with running as a Conservative - if we still had a Conservative Party. Obviously, we do not, hence we have a 'hung parliament'. Cameron's a liar and is uncomfortably akin to Tony Bliar. MILLIONS of people have taken their votes elswhere, or, often, abstained.
Daniel, I challenge you, if all this verbiage and posturing is backed-up by one iota of substance, QUIT, and join UKIP, as they are the only UK party and politicians representing the democratic will of the people. If you insist on hiding behind that coward Camerons skirt-tail, then do us all a favour and shut the hell-up. It offends us.
When I first came across Daniel I was impressed. Now, I realise he's just another overpaid EU free-loader who just happens to like grandstanding and playing to an empty room that does't fight back.
@HeavensGremlin I think he would much prefer the room to be filled but he doesn't have much choice. Also what's wrong with running as a conservative? What's so great about UKIP? I understand that Daniel has views that would be quite at home in UKIP but they are also quite at home in the conservative party; although not all conservatives support all of Daniels views, many do.
Such common sense is wasted in the European Parliament. Not that the US Congress is any better. If we ask really, really nice will Mr. Hannan agree to do a tour in the White House? With Carter Jr. in there at present, and the current crop of yahoos on the right looking to replace him next year, we really could use the help. It could help the UK & EU too. So how about it Mr. Hannan? Willing to take one for the team and be a Yank for 4 years?
@avgayjoe Oy! You may not have noticed but we in the EU (and specifically the UK) are thin on the ground with decent, common sense politicians so you're not nicking Dan! Besides, the 'yahoos' you refer to largely value the free market system - things will be on the up in the US by the end of next year - what have we got to look forward to? The weird spendaholic Labour left or the slightly right of left of centre slightly less spendaholic Tories.
@revelationmd - I'd wager that more than half of our politicos barely know what a free market system even is, let alone value it. As for Hannan, tell you what: flip you for him, you call it. Heads or tails? :-)
@Norskal because he is in the boon docks, everybody has to be at Nigel Farages speaches because he somehow managed to squeeze his way into the first row
Gov get out of the way? and give up Power? Never going to happen. You have to force them out of the way because they will never volunteer to step aside.
Daniel I respect your opinions and share many of them (I'm not so keen on Ayn Rand) however I'm beginning to think your talents are wasted in 'cast-iron' Dave's conservative party - as indeed my vote for the Tories in last year's general election was wasted, unless Dave decides to give us a referendum on the EU after all. Cutting taxes and bureaucracy would help as well, perhaps so much that we wouldn't have to make so many spending cuts - until then, I'm looking at UKIP and I like what I see...
@Cathsocpresident0607 I joined UKIP for exactly the reasons you give. The Tories have lost all confidence in their argument and have allowed the left to dictate where the 'centre ground' is. Sad fact is, if Lady Thatcher entered politics today the current Tory leadership would hide her in the back benches.
That said - I'd vote for anyone that gave a real 'cast iron' promise of an EU referrendum.
...well, not Labour obviously - I have some self respect.
@revelationmd If Labour promised to withdraw from the EU, I would vote for them. The problem is they can't. If they did the media and press would ridicule them just as they did in 1983, and just as they ridiculed the 'NO' campaign against entry in 1973. Corporate interests are firmly in favour of European intergration since it promotes the free movement of capital and the free movement of labour. Then they can get get bailed-out by the member states when things go wrong. This is the sad truth.
Bureaucrats, and the notionally representative politicians in the pocket of the bureaucrats don't like to be told that all their prized and wonderful regulation, legislation, and central management are a constipated load of crap plugging the economic and political bowels of their society. Brace yourself when a laxative is found, as it eventually must. It won't be pretty. The utter madness that is bureaucratic socialism!
What this gentleman just said can be perfectly placed into the problems of the USA as well. I wish our government would just stay out of the way of a potential prosperous commerce. Choking regulations, employment and investment killing taxes, etc is whats hurting us more than anything. Obama you want to create jobs, then get the hell out of the private sectors way!
@trixapete MEPs are given one minute slots to speak, or 4 minutes for the leader of a party/group, which is why Nigel Farage gets 4 minutes. I can only suppose however that they let Daniel talk a little longer because there's no-one around to follow him...
Politicians have always been envious of businessmen and tried to beat them back at every turn, in taxes and regulations, not caring that it hurts the country in the long run.
Hannah should bring out a DVD edition of all his best short speeches, interspersed with contexualizing commentary. Plus extras unavailable elesewhere, like your favourite Shakespearean soliloquies.
@mikesheen741 I guess Daniel is allotted the worst times for his speeches because he's not part of one of the bigger groups in the European parliament. So most of them have already left because they don't want to hear what "that crazy Hannan" has to say. But it's not just him. Remember how they all walked out when Vaclav Klaus, the Czech president, made a speech warning about the dangers of the current EU. The president of a member state, and they just walked out.
Maybe instead of complaining about how the room is empty every time (something he has responded to), maybe people could help get his view count above 5000 for his best ones?
The best thing that the Anglosphere's governments can do is abandon the Free World Trade Economic Suicide Club, & resume Mercantilism again as international trade policy, as Joseph Chamberlin advocated
"Joe was right", should be the mantra of r times (makes a change from "Enoch").
Those figures are damning and staggering. The EU is a failure on so many levels.
