Allow me to quote myself from an earlier comment: "I meant that this is what real Hip-Hop should sound like." note the word "should", thus the statement was an opinion, I wasn't stating fact. I'm merely commenting on how Hip-Hop should have positive messages. But for some reason people choose to disgrace it by writing songs about drugs and promiscuity. That's why I gave up on this type of music years ago. Luckily Home Made Kazoku has given me some hope for it. Please don't jump to conclusions.

Mind you, maze more, I said Hip Hop instead of just rap. I am a bboy and nowadays there's no love for bboys. Dance competitions on tv know it's too hard to teach people how to break so they teach people easier dances like the waltz, etc. Same thing happens in the clubs. It's "too hard" to expect people to learn how to break even though that was the accepted norm during the 80's so what did the media do? They killed bboying and replaced it with easy as hell "gangsta moves".

I'm talking about Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Afrika Bambataa, Kurtis Blow, Slick Rick, Zapp and Roger, names that were around way before Pac, etc. There was a lot more variety back then and it was actually possible for a rap artist to not have a gangster image and just be popular because they made good music. What you're talking about is the rise in popularity of Gangsta rap in the mid 90's. I'm talking about the 80's.

The group dance taught in most schools is known as "Hip Hop" dance but in reality the four pillars of Hip Hop are bboying(breakdance),emceeing(r­apping),writing(graffiti), and djing. Yeah sure drugs and chicks might have been part of it but ever since the mid 90's it has warped the culture into being non-creative when initially there was so much more. Even Djing has been affected by this wannabe gangsta attitude. On the radio the scratchin sucks and shout outs and gunshot SFX interrupt the music.
