Even Ibn Taymiya, Ibn Qayyim, and Ibn Kathir I have their book quotes that you can research find for yourself if it is useful for you.
No, that's the greatest thing about Islam, this event although greatly rewardable act but it is NOT an obligation (fard) like prayer or fasting (ofcourse even then there are exception which allows you break the fast such major illness, extreme fear for the fetus in the womb, etc.) But, understand one thing brother we should not discourage others who choose to participate to seek the rewards from the blessed occasion. Many times people do bring traces of prophet.
Show me evidence where the prophet alehy salam commanded Sunni muslims to form into Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali. And, then show me if any of the sahabah radiaallahu anhum belong to any of the 4 madhabs. Last, do you belong to a madhab if you're sunni?
I don't think that there is anything wrong with following a madhab because the religion is not being changed but rather one is following a scholar who has used the quran and sunnah. However one should not follow blindly and all these four imams said if you find that any of our fatwas go against the quran and sunnah then throw them on the wall.
Personally i do not follow any one madhab and the prophet did not command us to do so however if we are in doubt then ask the learned.
I don't think Islam is being changed because celebrate al mawlid, and the innovation does not contradict al Qur'an or sunnah, and ijma. And, there is no hadith or ayah that contradicts the celebrating al mawlid to be put up against the wall since if there were any problem there surely been rejected, and not have received so many praises from scholars of Islam for last 800 years.

I have not said once that reciting poetry or nasheed is not allowed as long as it is in the bounds of the shariah i.e. no music apart from daff, not copying rap, etc, and as long as the words are ok i.e. not calling on the prophet (as you hear in many cases), or on walis for help, etc. Unfortunately you will find in these celebrations alot of things that go against tawheed (oness of God) which if not correct then none of our actions will be accepted!

I have attended these events many times in the past mainly because of my father and also friends. At the time i did not have much knowledge. Only after researching i realised that this was not practiced by our beloved nabi (saw) and his companions (i was suprised!). The question was why?? It came down to concept of good and bad biddah which is a gray area so i for one will keep away

There is no evidence that one would be rewarded more to do acts on worship on that particular day then any other day. To give it importance and to expect more reward for worship on that particular day is not justified. Allah says to treat all the Prophets the same quran (3:84)
So if the mawlid is allowed, then why don't we celebrate the other prophets birthdays too? It makes sense!
What you have written about musa (pbuh) does not prove the legitimacy of eid milad. Even if it did, what do we do on eid milad?? We do not FAST like the above reference you have given but we FEAST!! WHY??
People use the reference that prophet used to fast on EVERY mondays cos that was the day he was born. If you really wanted to use these hadith then how come no one fasts on every mondays bcos that was what the prophet used to do but rather FEAST on the day that the prophet used to fast??
I will kill two of your comments with one comment. We all know the prophet Muhammad is the best of the Creation of Allah Subhana wat'ala. The date issue, matter in fact we did it like 10th of rabiawwal, and I know others will be doing them in the coming weeks and one even beyond this month. So, that leaves you with fast and feast issue. I don't know how it is in england, but most of the eating itself is on the night. (So technically there is no saying if one had fasted to come to the mawlid) and
And, the fast or feast (although I call it more like an commemorate an great event) it was not my point by mentioning that great occasion of 10th of Muharram, but nevertheless my point is not wrong to commemorate any great event that took place such as the Miraj of our prophet alehy salam or the Hijrah. By using the "wahabi" approach that does not resolve anything and does not mean an arguement has one as many people when they have no answer to your questions they say you are a "wahabi". I totally agree with the salaf methodolgy as did the prophet (saw). He (saw) told us of those people that would be good i.e. the first 3 generations. After that there would be fitnah. So it makes common sense to stick to those three if we want to be part of the saved sect. Doesn't it??
If you say that the knowledge you have about them is directly from the three generation, I might even think there could be such as salafiya, but truely where or who taught you about the salafs? salam. I have seen both parts of the arguement and i feel the "salaf" arguement is alot stronger. I have realised that the scholars that permit it do so by translating verses and hadith to mean that and it is not clear. They say because the prophet kept a fast on mondays cos he was born and revelation was given to him we should all do milad. It is not clear at all!
it is like the prophet said the sunnah of the fajr salah are of great reward. We know reading fard salah in congregation is 27 times greater than reading alone. Why don't we read those sunnah prayers together and we will get great reward?? Simple reason is cos the prophet or the sahabah did not do it like that.
I think we have both made our points about milad. You sound like a bright lad. Just don't take everything you hear as truth and look into it yourself.
As you know the "wahabi" term was used quite a bit to muslims who used to say that eid milad, yarmi, calling on the prophet, wali not allowed. So i thought why are these people saying it is not allowed as i was not satisfied by the answer cos they are "wahabi". There is no such term. Al-wahab is the name of Allah!! This term was created by non muslims to create problems between muslims. I have spoken to many salafi brothers. It mainly is the pakistanis that do mawlid and not all muslims.
It is true that the term al Wahab is one of the attributes of Allah, but when people say Wahabi it is reference to those follow Abdul Wahab. It is the same when says I am a Hanafi or I am maliki after the madhab. The notion that pakistanies are the main group are so false, I just attended a Ethipian group in Los Angeles who were celebrating al mawlid last night. If you just type mawlid on youtube you will surely see people from Jeddah to people russia celebrating al mawlid.
And, what is with the cursing to our own brothers and sisters. This is like stabbing our own body. Let's give courtesy to our:
1. New muslims who might not know about our sound practice of mawlid which has been valid for 800 yrs.
2. Those born in the non muslim foreign lands and too busy to be doctors, lawyers, and engineers that they finally got to witness the glory of celebrating the milad of their father's muslim home land
3 . The really innovated group itself the So called salafiyas

Even Ibn Taymiya, Ibn Qayyim, and Ibn Kathir I have their book quotes that you can research find for yourself if it is useful for you.

No, that's the greatest thing about Islam, this event although greatly rewardable act but it is NOT an obligation (fard) like prayer or fasting (ofcourse even then there are exception which allows you break the fast such major illness, extreme fear for the fetus in the womb, etc.) But, understand one thing brother we should not discourage others who choose to participate to seek the rewards from the blessed occasion. Many times people do bring traces of prophet.

Show me evidence where the prophet alehy salam commanded Sunni muslims to form into Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali. And, then show me if any of the sahabah radiaallahu anhum belong to any of the 4 madhabs. Last, do you belong to a madhab if you're sunni?

I don't think that there is anything wrong with following a madhab because the religion is not being changed but rather one is following a scholar who has used the quran and sunnah. However one should not follow blindly and all these four imams said if you find that any of our fatwas go against the quran and sunnah then throw them on the wall.
Personally i do not follow any one madhab and the prophet did not command us to do so however if we are in doubt then ask the learned.

I don't think Islam is being changed because celebrate al mawlid, and the innovation does not contradict al Qur'an or sunnah, and ijma. And, there is no hadith or ayah that contradicts the celebrating al mawlid to be put up against the wall since if there were any problem there surely been rejected, and not have received so many praises from scholars of Islam for last 800 years.

Brother when one does an act of worship they should realise that all worship is forbidden other than that what has been allowed through the example of our prophet. So it is you that needs to provided the evidence!!

And, I do agree we should emulate his actions and love for our ummah. But, since when you decided TALKING about him is ok, but perhaps not reciting poetry or nasheed?

I have not said once that reciting poetry or nasheed is not allowed as long as it is in the bounds of the shariah i.e. no music apart from daff, not copying rap, etc, and as long as the words are ok i.e. not calling on the prophet (as you hear in many cases), or on walis for help, etc. Unfortunately you will find in these celebrations alot of things that go against tawheed (oness of God) which if not correct then none of our actions will be accepted!

Ok, so from what I understand now you are ok with the celebration (nasheed, poetry, talking about our prophet alehy salam) as long as they don't call upon rasoolillah salelahy alehy wasalam for help. yes? Then, go and attend one and take your family with you. And, also if you feel our sincerity want to correct them and go ahead. I feel I know there is evidence for mawlid in the hadith, also regarding your last statement about calling upon the prophet, but I fear that could actually prevent you

I have attended these events many times in the past mainly because of my father and also friends. At the time i did not have much knowledge. Only after researching i realised that this was not practiced by our beloved nabi (saw) and his companions (i was suprised!). The question was why?? It came down to concept of good and bad biddah which is a gray area so i for one will keep away

I respect your decision, and there is not an obligation but I do feel you are missing a great event if done properly. Again, there is no point that the Sahabies are loved and are the best of our ummah, but even if the prophet alehy salam didn't openly celebrate his own birth doesn't limit us from doing so, as the prophet said about Musa when jews fasted in order to commemorate the date they were liberated and told us that we are more deserving of Musa than them

There is no evidence that one would be rewarded more to do acts on worship on that particular day then any other day. To give it importance and to expect more reward for worship on that particular day is not justified. Allah says to treat all the Prophets the same quran (3:84)
So if the mawlid is allowed, then why don't we celebrate the other prophets birthdays too? It makes sense!

What you have written about musa (pbuh) does not prove the legitimacy of eid milad. Even if it did, what do we do on eid milad?? We do not FAST like the above reference you have given but we FEAST!! WHY??
People use the reference that prophet used to fast on EVERY mondays cos that was the day he was born. If you really wanted to use these hadith then how come no one fasts on every mondays bcos that was what the prophet used to do but rather FEAST on the day that the prophet used to fast??

I will kill two of your comments with one comment. We all know the prophet Muhammad is the best of the Creation of Allah Subhana wat'ala. The date issue, matter in fact we did it like 10th of rabiawwal, and I know others will be doing them in the coming weeks and one even beyond this month. So, that leaves you with fast and feast issue. I don't know how it is in england, but most of the eating itself is on the night. (So technically there is no saying if one had fasted to come to the mawlid) and

And, the fast or feast (although I call it more like an commemorate an great event) it was not my point by mentioning that great occasion of 10th of Muharram, but nevertheless my point is not wrong to commemorate any great event that took place such as the Miraj of our prophet alehy salam or the Hijrah. In fact in our masjid we do have such commemoration, and most time is just some sweets that a brother donated to be eaten at the end of the lecture about the great event.

Why do I said this because I feel you are defending the side of the so called salafiya and the followers of Abdul Wahab; those argument you brought about who are loving more the prophet, the religion being perfect therefore not needing more things added, etc. these are all arguments brought forth by them. So, instead of fighting in their level (since anyway if I provide hadiths, they can easily say it is no good) I decided bring a more logical argument.

By using the "wahabi" approach that does not resolve anything and does not mean an arguement has one as many people when they have no answer to your questions they say you are a "wahabi". I totally agree with the salaf methodolgy as did the prophet (saw). He (saw) told us of those people that would be good i.e. the first 3 generations. After that there would be fitnah. So it makes common sense to stick to those three if we want to be part of the saved sect. Doesn't it??

salam. I have seen both parts of the arguement and i feel the "salaf" arguement is alot stronger. I have realised that the scholars that permit it do so by translating verses and hadith to mean that and it is not clear. They say because the prophet kept a fast on mondays cos he was born and revelation was given to him we should all do milad. It is not clear at all!

it is like the prophet said the sunnah of the fajr salah are of great reward. We know reading fard salah in congregation is 27 times greater than reading alone. Why don't we read those sunnah prayers together and we will get great reward?? Simple reason is cos the prophet or the sahabah did not do it like that.
I think we have both made our points about milad. You sound like a bright lad. Just don't take everything you hear as truth and look into it yourself.

As you know the "wahabi" term was used quite a bit to muslims who used to say that eid milad, yarmi, calling on the prophet, wali not allowed. So i thought why are these people saying it is not allowed as i was not satisfied by the answer cos they are "wahabi". There is no such term. Al-wahab is the name of Allah!! This term was created by non muslims to create problems between muslims. I have spoken to many salafi brothers. It mainly is the pakistanis that do mawlid and not all muslims.

It is true that the term al Wahab is one of the attributes of Allah, but when people say Wahabi it is reference to those follow Abdul Wahab. It is the same when says I am a Hanafi or I am maliki after the madhab. The notion that pakistanies are the main group are so false, I just attended a Ethipian group in Los Angeles who were celebrating al mawlid last night. If you just type mawlid on youtube you will surely see people from Jeddah to people russia celebrating al mawlid.
