Hey, what you were saying about breaking up with bad friends really struck a cord with me. I am in that horrible part of my recovery where I am ditching the friends who trigger me and finding those who are supportive. Thanks for that. I needed to hear that right now. Take Care, Michelle xx
just keep repeating in your head constantly, and more, the more you feel anxious, "What's the worst that can happen?" and i guarantee that will almost melt away all the negative thoughts.. but that's a way of challenging those negative thoughts in to more reasonable ones. Hope this helps and i have taken note of the first two tips you have talked about. :)
I'm now deciding whether or not i should move out and start over, get away from my family for a while and become more independent, because i feel like i'm clinging on and nothing is getting any better and i'm becoming more dependent on people because i'm constantly around the house where i'd rather be out doing things with other people. Anyway, i thought i'd share another really good tip that might help you and has certainly worked for me, and has in the past. But when you're feeling anxious
I totally agree with this, there are a lot of negative people in my life, however some are friends but just think that way, but not necessarily what i'd call a bad influence in my life, but there are certainly a few people i could do without atm, for example my dad sis. They aren't bad people but ever since my mom died things have just fallen apart. I quit my job, my depression got the best of me and added to my anxiety until now i have developed anger issues from the frustration because of it.
lol, I always retreat to the bathroom when I'm at "parties". I generally only get anxious when my goal is to talk with others that I don't know, or don't know well. Interacting one on one with ppl I don't know is close to impossible if it's a girl my age, but in smaller groups I can usually relax. I guess in groups it's easier because I can talk without having to grab the attention first. My mind just goes blank whenever someone is looking at me and expecting me to say something.
@pite9 Same with me bro! I never used to but i hate talking to people one on one, its so awkward.. i always feel like i have to do all the talking, where i know i shouldn't and then i get nervous and i feel like i'm making the other person nervous and it just goes downhill from there.. lol.. Groups are more my thing cos i dont feel like i have to contribute all the time and being looked at constantly, but i'm getting better talking to people one on one now, it just takes practice i guess..
Great video! You're right; keeping the mind occupied before a social event is SO important. There is a huge difference when I think too hard about what is to come before I go out and when I focus on something else. I usually feel more comfortable in the situation, if I haven't been worrying about it as much.
I retreat to the restroom too. That's a safe haven. I go to the restroom when the mall or work becomes too much. I practice deep breathing & control my thoughts while in the stall. I emerge refreshed & ready to face the public again.
Thanks for the tip, Amanda. That tip about going places has worked for me. I went out with a friend and felt really good after that I had done something. Hope 2011 is great for you!

Thanks for the help Amanda. Unfortunately for me, everytime I DO actually go out with people I end up being even more depressed afterwards.
