Follow the green car: first of all it pretty much PIT manoeuvres the blue car at around 0:02, then it drives off the roundabout, speeds off and definitely breaks the speed limit around the top, drives back onto the roundabout (around 0:12), drives back off, gets smashed in retaliation by the blue car at 0:20, drives back onto the roundabout, and then off in the wrong direction (against the traffic flow). I think he was definitely on coke, in some kind of gang dispute with the blue car.
Erm 'normal' roundabouts with one circle in the middle are actually pretty good, better then intersections with traffic lights. Apart from the fact that you move faster in general (reduce speed but keep going instead of a dead stop) accident on them are much less harmful. I've seen some pretty bad accidents in intersections, but in a roundabout, you have to slow down to go round it, making a collision (if it happens) with another vehicle much smaller.
@fragfestchampion I think you are referring to the two concentric circles around a filled in dot. Those are how the mini roundabouts are painted on the road. The arrows that encompass them show which way traffic should go around each one.
@younglukas Yeah, thos "curbs" are road markings and what you see the car crossing before entering the roundabout area are the "wait" lines. There's no line on each exit. It's not as clear as it might be, but those are the markings on the tarmac.
I'm moving to Swindon in about a month. Should I really fear a traffic device that doesn't exist (obviously for damn good reason) anywhere else in the world? I know, calling it a "traffic device" is an understatement. Perhaps "traffic TORTURE device" is more accurate.
@chaosopher23 you never move at speed through it, so there is plenty of time to see what everyone else is doing and where you want to be going. It might help to visualize it as two concentric rings of traffic, the outer rotating clockwise and the inner one anti-clockwise.
@chaosopher23 This configuration does exist elsewhere in the world (Colchester UK). It's actually a very clever way to get lots more cars through a given space a lot more safely than before. I've driven it and it's really pretty easy. Just think of it as a series of *individual* roundabouts, and always give priority to cars coming from the right..
Roundabouts are about priorities... I can't quite figure how those work here... I understand that if you're going into the central circle you need to give way to whoever's in there already... but how about those 5 smaller circles? I don't get those.
@egzit If you're inside the smaller circles, everyone yields to you. The big outside circle should have give way lines like the less-large inner circle.
A rotary inside a roundabout! OMG it's painful just to look at.
Note: rotaries were invented several decages ago in Massachusetts and are almost the same as roundabouts (yes, entering traffic yields) but they go counterclockwise instead. Before that we had traffic circles which always had horrible wrecks because the traffic ENTERING the circle had the right-of-way!
Ahh yeah youre right your version is better. Good job on the animation. They should post this at a little infomation point near the roundabout so people can stop and see how its done haha.
Swindon is so messed up, that is really needed a video like this to teach people to drive to their "magic roundabout" . Wake up people! You should do a tunnel and viaducts, dont be conned by the government who saves the money and gives magic roundabouts...
No - you're right, it's not exact - the Swindon Town ground access somewhat complicates the layout. . I was trying to give the general idea of how such a system works. I've updated my description to reflect this. Thanks for the feedback.

This looks like it would be way too confusing and totally unnecessary. Good job on the animation though!

Why the hell do you have to drive round the main roundabout the wrong way?

@ytrewQwerty Plus it's been proven that a four-lane road with roundabouts can move more traffic than a six-lane road with traffic lights.
EdM021 2 months ago
What are those smaller circular lanes for?

waitaminute, at about :18 a light blue car comes flying in over a curb. That can't be the intended use...

Seriously I went there when I had my driving license for only a month and it was a breeze.
Pictures, animations and movies of it are actually more intimidating than the real thing.

@markzip1 I've ridden my bicycle through it a few times; it's easier than it looks.

i live in swindon, dont you think its conveniant that theres a fire station right next to this roundabout? lol.
beatboxboi121 1 year ago 4
@beatboxboi121 Absolutely. Following a fire engine across the roundabout is the safest way to navigate it by far :-)

And I thought normal roundabouts were confusing!

This animation would be better if it wasn't rotating like that.

Indeed. Some of the drivers are scarier than the roundabout. I swear I saw one woman drive across with her eyes shut.
I did some "in-car" view versions of this, but it was hard to get a feel from that angle of what was going on.
