If N. Korea or China launches their nukes at Japan and S. Korea first, the USA would immediately launch nukes...this standoff is an old story. No winner.
By occupying Iran first, we limit the oil both Asian countries need and stop Iran's nuclear capabilities, which N. Korea provides, who imports that technology from China.
North Korea has the Taep'o-dong-2, Iran has the Shahab-5-6, and China has the Dong Feng 31, which are nearly identical.

OH...and i've followed the Brazilian ethanol conversion. It's a success because they can produce the sugar cane (higher yield and less expensive than corn) themselves, and don't have the oil based economy the USA has.
They're an example I wish America would follow, even tho- oil is still one of their major imports...it's the future.

Yeah, that is the course bushco is taking. Unfortunately their one-world-order makes that scenario inevitable. Sadly we all have choices and the technology exists to dramatically REDUCE all countries dependence on oil. I know the argument, the energy has to come from somewhere. Ethanol and electric cars is a reasonable alternative to lower our dependence until we create another technology down the road.

Have you ever heard of the phrase, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend?" In the 80's, Iran was perceived (and rightly so) as a greater threat to U.S. interests/security. I'm sure you don't have any problem with Roosevelt's decision to form an alliance with the Soviet Union to defeat a common enemy (and greater threat to US interests/security at the time) during WWII. I happen to agree with your point about sending arms to the Iranians - that was clearly a mistake.

Reagan met with Gorbachev ("the enemy") in an effort to end the Cold War and to work on a nuclear arms control agreement, not to arm the Soviets with weapons. Did we provide weapons to Iraq AFTER Saddam gassed the Kurds? If so, what is the source of your information? I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just curious.

The point with Reagan and the USSR was that he was willing to talk not only with Gorbachev, but his predecessors (who were very short-lived in their positions) to control a nuclear arms build-up. The president continues to defy a diplomatic aspect in dealing with Iran, despite emphasis of an independent and experienced group's strong recommendations.
It has been nearly a generation since the US cut all diplomatic ties with Iran, and the rhetoric only energizes the hostile intention.

That is not an overture to surrender, as that implies we are already at war with Iran and have an Administration indicating a determination to begin one. Iran's regime, which is controlled by a theocratic body (and not the President) is certainly not a free or tolerant government. Yet if one were to look at the history before 1979, one would find foreign manipulation coupled with a leader who became just as corrupt and monstrous as the worst dictatorships.

The question I asked above was, "What is the source of your information that we provided weapons to IRAQ (not Iran) AFTER Saddam gassed the Kurds?" Also, although I agree that the Associated Press story that you are quoting is troubling, it does not state what you imply it does - that the US is KNOWINGLY selling weapons (or weapons parts) to the Iranians. It simply states that, due to poor inventory and sales controls, an Iranian middleman was able to buy surplus F-14 parts.
