  • its a shame that pilots dont have to fly like gentlemen any more :( hail galland !

  • My congratulations sir, you are a good person and excelent fighter, un caballero del aire.

  • Galland was a professional and, indeed, one of the best of the war. He was a leading mind in the development of the dive bomber arm and could well have spent the war as a Stuka rather than fighter pilot. He was also one of the elite few chosen to fly the Me 262 and tried (unsuccessfully) to persuade Erich Hartmann (you need to ask who?) to move to the Me 262. I don't love these guys but I admire what they achieved as professionals. Wider comments about war and politics seem irrelevant to me.

  • I know this is very good achievment, but I think if Poland had not won battle of Vienna, German people would now same % of Turks in country, but your official language would be Turkish :) HF with this.

  • At Minute 1:00 they show the rudder of Adolf Gallands Me-109 with 56 bars - each for one shot-down at that time. At 2:29 they show shot-down no. 57.

  • Children, stop your quibbles and immature loyalties for a time long past that none of you knew. I did know those dark days in England, but I must say that the the aircrews and pilots, German or English, were fine, brave men doing what there country expected of them.

  • The Gallant Galland - one of the German Luftwaffe's (NOT the Nazis') greatest aces & most talented pilots & LEADERS OF MEN during WW2, and one of nature's nicest gentlemen - especially post-WW2. E.g. - see him interviewed several times, during Jermy Isaac's award-winning doco-series "The World At War" - from 1973 I believe.

  • To be a Nazi you first had to be in the Nazi Party, Galland was never a Nazi Party member, he was however German, which is why he fought on the German side.Simple really.

  • Apparently the Third Reich was no democracy, refusing to join the military meant that you had a rendezvous with the firing squad.

No matter whether the soldiers rather shared the ideology of the Nazis, or the communists, were unpolitical etc., they all had to fight in the Wehrmacht.

In the election in November 1932 the communist KPD received 16.9% of the votes, thus you can bet that there were also in the Wehrmacht hundreds of thousands of persons who rather sympathised with the communists.

  • @HingerlAlois

"there were also in the Wehrmacht hundreds of thousands of persons who rather sympathised with the communists. "

you mean there were jews in the wehrmacht?

  • Since when do you have to be a jew to sympathise with or vote for the communists?^^

The KPD (Communist Party of Germany) was the third largest party in Germany until it was forbidden by the Nazis, in March 1933 it received 4.85 million votes (=12.3%).

And yes I guess there might have been some jews in the Wehrmacht, e.g. Solomon Perel was in the Hitler Youth and if I remember it correctly also in the Wehrmacht for a short time^^

  • @brentano2277

    Even more simple.

To be a Nazi, first you go forth and kill people that the Nazi Party tell you to kill.

After you become a hero of the Third Riech and take all they have to give you the next step is to say 'I'm not a Nazi' when the war is lost.

The man was a good pilot and killer. He did it to star in the German, if not the Nazi hierachy after the war, which he thought they would win.

    What;s the difference?

He was a war criminal and should have been hung.

  • @bill24777 I see, so all members of the German armed forces were murderers and should have been hung? I am correct in that summation?

  • @brentano2277

No, the ordinary airmen that were forced to fight, the same as the airmen of the countries that were being attacked were forced to fight could not be held responsible for for war crimes.

People that became the organisers of what was after all an attempt to subjugate the world to the policies of the third reich can and should be held responsible.

This opinion may be clouded by both my father and uncle being killed in 1940 as RAF pilots trying to prevent bombers killing us.

  • @bill24777 That's a fair assessment, and understandable given the circumstances, but I don't believe Galland was a war criminal, in fact Allied Airmen who came in contact with him spoke highly of him, not to mention Douglas Bader.

Goering most certainly was a criminal, but not many Luftwaffe personnel were.

Once a war starts, unfortunately the clear lines become blurred.

  • @brentano2277 ______they where simply soliders doing their jobs to protect their familys and country

  • No one is on the correct side during war. You either fight for your country or for the ennemy but then being a traitor.

  • @ichmalealsobinich that is a very biase view at the moment our forces are trying to more 9/11s or 7/7s you have to do something you cant just pray in a church all day for a war to end.

  • Correct side? how many atomics boms Germany have used during WW2? Nazis were criminals, and what happened with american criminals? Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Dresden, ...... by now: Afganistan, Irak, etc.... The world had been better since WW2 finished.... nobody is good, nobody is bad.....

  • @picosorevive

The only reason Hitler didn't use atomic bombs is simply that he didn't have any.

If he had they would have rained down everywhere. It wasn't for the lack of trying that he had none, whole research facilities were trying their best to develop one.

There was even a bomber designed to drop A-bombs on New York.

    Your'e point is invalid.

  • @bill24777 You are wrong. It was the WSS sci that made a 1st nuke. They tested it in Nov of 44' on a small island in the Baltic. It was NAZI nuke triggers that the US used in there nukes to hit the Japs - those smart Jews could not make a trigger. Germans did. They also had 1,000 of tons of gas. Much of this gas, no other nation had. Why did they not use it either? They could have WON on D-Day if they had shelled the beach with gas... You're point is invalid. LO)

  • @trophy242

and what was the correct side? IDIOT!

  • Happy Birthday Adolf! RIP

  • From 1941 to 1942 the Abbeville Kids dominated the skies over the Channel.

Those years were the glory days of JG 26.

  • Not really, they simply defended as the RAF had done the year before.

Its always easier for the defending force as any bailed out piulots or damaged planes are salvaged.

  • This appears to be a propaganda newsreal ?

Galland wrote a book ;'The First and the Last'

its available thru Uk libraries , very readable .

  • Mein Opa will Galland 1944/45 in Thüringen, in der Nähe von Erfurt/Sömmerda gesehen haben.

Soll dort stationiert gewesen sein.Komanndo Nowotny? Weiß jemand mehr?

  • Tuck saw a Me109 pair coming from behind his formation up towards him. They had yellow noses! He trimmed his Hurri and tracer flew past, and then he pulled up. The first 109 had gone but his no.2 was square in front. Tuck blew him out of the sky in flames! Galland said upon meeting Tuck 'I missed you than day, you saw me!' Tuck 'Yes, I got your no.2!' Galland 'And so did I - is that what you English call Evens Stevens?' Galland and Tuck were friends there after!! (Fly for your life - book )

  • I think was Werner Molders! The first pilot who reached the 100 kills and close friend of Adolf Galland

  • "Da ist der Tommy!"

  • Does anybody know who was number one ace against western allies air forces? Was it Galland?

  • No, it was not Galland. As far I can see did he score 103 victorys against RAF and the France Air Force. Heinz Bar claimed 124 kills on the western front, together with 96 on the eastern front. If I'm not wrong, it was a Luftwaffe ace in the North-African theatre that scored more than 150 victories, but I can't remember his name right now...

  • hans joachim marseilles, the star of africa and he was credited with around 120 kills i think and mastered the art of deflection shooting. he could accurately land bullets in the enemies cockpit whilst in a turn.

  • Hans-Joachim Marseille shot down 158 American and British aircraft.

  • It was not Galland.

    It was Eric Hartman.

The biggest German ace was Hans Ulric Rudel.

The highest decorated whit the Iron cross whit oak-leaves and diamonds..

  • i don't know, good question though. Herbert Ihlefeld, Dieter Hrback and Adolf Galland should be up there.

  • UK built up 88 000 aircrafts during the war, gave Sovjet couple of thousands and was given much more from US. They had after the war some 15 000 aircrafts left but still official Britain claims that they lost little bit more than 20 000. Se where are the rest - possible 60 000+ missing aircrafts?

  • what a brave man GALLAND kick the flying rat ass ,( when the eagle fly the rats falls ).

  • The film for the aerial sequence was taken from a gun camera that did not include sound. All sound was added later. Galland's Bf-109E was fitted with two 8mm machineguns and a single 20mm cannon. The 8mm machineguns used tracer ammunition to aid in accuracy while the 20mm cannon did not. Both master and machine were exceptional.....

  • Adolf Galland was an exelent fighter pilot

  • DA IST DER TOMMY! loool

  • If you watch carefully you realize that several different scenes were cut into one. I think the 109 pursuing that spit was staged with a captured British plane. You don't see any tracers even though you hear gun shots which - imho - are too loud from the distance from where the scene was taken.

  • One has to consider that this pursuit scene was taken from a flying plane with engines running. Difficult to imagine that one would hear so clearly the gun shots but not the engines

  • Furthermore the amplitude of the gun shot noise never alters whatever the position of the camera.

Finally, we first see a Spit but Galland shoots down a Hurricane (the scene with the gun cam)

  • in the video it said that the camera was attached to the gun...

  • Adolf,Tommy LOVES YOU! JA.

  • Hip Pam Pam!!

  • Amazing pilot...

  • Amazing! Messerschmitts...

  • Great, but pity not in english

  • They said that the footage was actual footage of Gallands 57th victory.

  • ... ist der Tommy! rofl.

    Great footage.

  • Spanking lol!

  • Impressive video

  • one of the most amazing fighter pilots. great video.

  • Amazing footage and a great fighter pilot!
