Who gives a shit if Bear Grylls wasn't in the 22nd S.A.S. Regiment, have any of you guys gone through S.A.S. selection? I know I haven't. Bear Grylls did though.
@drpiddleton continuation for reserves and regulars is the same course, conducted together. They are obviously not as well trained, as they are not full time soldiers, but that does not mean it's any easier to get into SF(R). The SBS(R) do the same reserve selection course and are deployed as replacements with the regular SBS, it's not going to be that much easier is it? Cue moronic comments about the SBS being 'Tier 2' etc. etc.
@palestine787 does being a dick come naturally to you or do you have to work on it? For your information I am on active duty with the paras and have seen more combat experience than bear face here. When I tell you that SAS reserves is not like the real thing, I know what I am talking about!!!!

Grylls was a reservist specialising in survival. He never saw action. Dont fall for the hype. Even his TV shows he is sleeping ina top hotel not out in the wild.
@mintwithahole U agree quth your comments. I respect his acheivments (Chief Scout, Everest etc) but his TV shows are just that, `shows` for reality TV and thus a little pretentious, and they, along with his books (such as the one he is promoting here) have helped to make him a rich man. I don`t know if he was 21 or 23 SAS, but he was a reservist and not with 22. Still, he passed UKSF selection, no easy task!
@mintwithahole This always annoys me when people make the statement of he is a reservist, yes you are absolutely right he is, but let's see you pass that selection becuase to make the 21st you still have to pass the same tests as anyone in the 22nd (to my knowledge).
To see action is the true test and no one would argue otherwise but 99.9% of the population will never even be able to earn the right to see action with the SAS, i know i more than likely don't have what it takes.
@dquin12 You don't carry one for a LALO jump (Low Altitude, Low Opening) because the speed you are falling at isn't enough time to drop the failed chute and try the backup.
@MackGB3506 Not true, Bear actually did have a reserve chute. He said shortly after that he should have deployed it he just thought he could resolve the problem with the main chute.
