@sheetmetaldept10 There are probably (at best) a half dozen professional rock musicians that would agree with you here. Van Halen is awesome and one of my favorite guitarists, but Hendrix is a giant. EVH exceeds Hendrix in the technical elements of his playing, but that certainly doesn't make him "better". Consider this, Jimi's entire (non-posthumous) catalog was released in the space of 3-4 years. Maybe now you'll understand what an impact he had to be held in such high regard 40 years later.

@sheetmetaldept10 There are probably (at best) a half dozen professional rock musicians that would agree with you here. Van Halen is awesome and one of my favorite guitarists, but Hendrix is a giant. EVH exceeds Hendrix in the technical elements of his playing, but that certainly doesn't make him "better". Consider this, Jimi's entire (non-posthumous) catalog was released in the space of 3-4 years. Maybe now you'll understand what an impact he had to be held in such high regard 40 years later.

i remember buying every cd from van halen back in the 90s , great band , i love the guitar sound and i am a big fan forever !

@ThrashRoC Top Jimmy has nothing to do with Jimmy Page at all. The song is a tribute to blues band Top Jimmy and the Rhythm Pigs who played around the Los Angeles area in the 70s and early 80s. It's even in the lyrics of the song..."top Jimmy and the rythmn pigs...." Hey i knew all this without google either....ah yeah, my high school days and younger days included actually buying an album/cd, reading the credits, reading interviews etc unlike kids today who download and know squat about a band

@clubhouseme He had quite a few influences. While Clapton was probably his main influence, he also listened to Jimmy Page. I think Jeff Beck also influenced him, and Hendrix definitely must have touched him.

'Don't want no class reunion, the circus just left town' must be one of my all-time favorite VH lines. I went to an all-male private catholic boarding school, and I'm really glad that that circus left town a long time ago. I used to play this tune religiously when I finally got out of that particular circle of Hell. 'Don't want no class reunion...' After 22 years that's still damn fucking right! Folks, I'll let you in on a little secret: from 5:05 to 5:38 you're hearing the voice of Gene Simmons doing those "ooh yeah...za za, zaba daba" vocal improvisations. He's not listed in the credits, but since he discovered the band, they game him a sort of cameo vocal appearance. Neat huh? Listen closely and you'll recognize his unique voice ;-)
