Is it really that hard to play the whole song? What is it? Like three minutes? You can't four minutes to stay true to the original? I would never take the job of chopping thesee classics into pieces. Just honor fewer people, or do it twice a year. Pretty f'ed up.
His performance of this at the Super Bowl was the real winner.
There are times when an artist must use their best discretion in deciding what songs to cover in a tribute or studio album. This is one of those. Etheridge did a fantastic job!
I would have wanted to be there. Bruce Springsteen has helped me over shitload of obstacles in my life, and I'm only turning 21. His music is what I can rely always. He's just something so big to me that I cant even describe it really. Some people believe in superheroes, how the fly and wear cool logo on their chests.. have that cape around their neck.. how they have different types of powers. Well, Bruce is a hero to me, with his music I can walk down the street with a smile on my face.
Kenny Aronoff looks like he died and went to heaven on those drums. That must have been a blast, getting to play with so many people whose bands he was a big part of.
Imagine having to play "Born to Run" in that band and knowing that if you screw up a note or chord, it's going to be heard by Bruce Springsteen AND the president. Must be a tough gig. Kudos to Albert Einstein for the sax solo too, LOL.
The doors will swing out and down the aisle I'll walk to this song on my wedding day. Without question. "Let me guide your dreams and visons." I men really what is more romantic?
How can this not be one of the best songs of all time!
Watching Melissa play to Bruce and the president puts the whole thing in very clear perspective. It's not just a great song, It's personal and universal at the same time!
@jensenbell Are you kidding me first of all she barely played anything and everything she did play was only in first position. I'd give her more credit if she wrote the song which she didn't. Worst performance of the night. Best performance that night was sting.
Kenny Arenoff on the drums can play the jazz fusion lick played by Ernest 'Boom' Carter on the recording of Born To Run that Max Weinberg couldn't figure and has never played maybe Kenny can teach Max this?
This version has grown on me more and more, theres a sincerity in it, much like what you sense when you hear springsteen sing it, that invokes emotions, and for me, memories of me with friends and old girlfriends in my fathers 72 camero, truly a "suicide machine" thats given me many great stories over the years
I never thought anyone else could pull this song off, and I was quite sceptical of a woman singing it due to the gritty sound - but she really was amazing, and Bruce looked really pleased during that performance ^.^
This is Fantastic..After doin' Thunder Road with Bruce on her MTV Unplugged, this is the ultimate Kick A** tribute to the boss..He would've loved it..And Melissa ALWAYS knocks it outta the ballpark..with no effort whatsoever.Awesome song choice&F**K Yeah,Melissa ROCKS!!

Kenny is Mellancamp's original drummer and played with him for years... that's where he got his notoriety. He has since left Mellancamp and played with Melissa, Fogerty, Smashing Pumpkins and LOADS of studio work. He's a go to guy for lots of singer/songwriters that have great producers looking to record a hit. And he is a gentleman too!
@thespunk99 I was just commenting on Aronoff. I've met him at Guitar Center clinics. Unbelievable talent. snare drum technique is vicious. You notice how in deference to Max and Bruce he changed his drumkit up? He usually rides with his left hand on the hi hat and has more drums and cymbals but he set up like Max Weinberg for this show and crossed over his hands.
@thespunk99 Kenny played for Aerosmith this year and played at the 2010-11 kenendy ctr awards during the Paul McCartney tribute since it was Steven Tyler singing
@bossfan21 He was the drummer of Linda Ronstad's band in the 70s as well as with many musicians around the CSN&Y people. It's a fantstic performance of Melissa with one of the greatest songs of all times !
