  • Meryl is so sweet at 2:30 Shi is the best ever <3

  • this song works for lesbians

  • classic song bruce i like the bigmacs

  • bruce è unico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song always makes me stop crying. <3

  • uncomfortable to watch lol. hmmm.

  • The guy on the sax isn't the one in the Blues Brothers movie?

  • Does she actually ever play the guitar?

  • She got it!

  • she's creepy in this

  • @greglausch

Coked up to the eyeballs I think. Does a good job though.

  • Is it really that hard to play the whole song? What is it? Like three minutes? You can't four minutes to stay true to the original? I would never take the job of chopping thesee classics into pieces. Just honor fewer people, or do it twice a year. Pretty f'ed up.

His performance of this at the Super Bowl was the real winner.

  • Love Bruce...like Melissa...I thought she did as good a job as anyone except eddie.

  • 0:00 obama! oh and click that to go again!

  • epic fail... just ...im outta here

  • Anyone but the late great Clarence Clemons playing the sax in this song does not send the same chills up and down my back!

  • damn! she did an amazing job!!!

  • Tha was awesome

  • blue lou marini on sax!!

  • 0:06 bruce is like "aightt this better be good..."

  • Melissa is definitely the only woman who is able to sing a Springsteen song like Springsteen would sing it.

  • Great performance. No Clarence though...RIP Big Man.

  • damn she knows how to perform.

  • 1:00

the first lady is like : where are you clarence ?

    this guy sucks !!

  • @totoado Thats LOU MARINI___FROM the blues brothers!!!!!

  • @milcookful

actually may be he is some big shot or something and its my bad that i dunno him

but just its wrong to see any one but clarence doing this sax solo

  • two words top class !!

  • It must suck watchin all your friends play your songs, and not be able to get up and play with them.

  • Only she can sing Bruce Springsteen songs as good as him!!!!

  • She killed it in a good way!

  • WOW!! Melissa just looks like she's living her dream!!

  • i love her... she's more than hot :) ♥

  • The boss of the United States was there...and so was Obama.

  • There are times when an artist must use their best discretion in deciding what songs to cover in a tribute or studio album. This is one of those. Etheridge did a fantastic job!

  • albert einstein plays the saxophone?

  • @monkeypi6 i thinks that's mark twain. lol

  • Lou Blue Marino on Sax

  • @Wshuwrhr he's really good, but he's no Clarence Clemmons. =)

  • zebra must be a woman

  • I would be terrified to sing a song that notorious in front of the man himself! She friggin rocked that!

  • I love the whole program, but to me, the only two singers that GOT the boss, was Melissa and Eddie Vedder!

  • man! she is cooking with grease!!!

  • bruce is loving it!!!!

  • Meryl Streep was the real standout star in this performance!

  • Holy CRAP that was good.

  • do you think melissa would ever turn back straight for bruce?

  • Why the heck did she never record this on any of her CDs?

  • two words - FUCKING EPIC!!

HUGE fan of Melissa and Bruce, I never thought I'd say this but she's just totally smashed my love for Bruce's version! Fuck this is amazing!

  • @GUNN666economy agreed. and i've seen bruce kick it live. he's still the boss, but she nailed it.

  • Kenny Arnoff is great

  • Ok 2 things about this video:

    1) Very very weird seeing a white guy playing the sax solo -- He did well, but just so used to seeing Clarence there. and

    2) Melissa may be a bad wife, but she is -- and always been -- one helluva a rocker.

  • @daward2 not that bad i think but she is incredibly sweet...she rocks!!!! I love her too...

  • wouldn't mind seeing tina turner cover this song....

  • Her version of this song gave me chills !

  • I would have wanted to be there. Bruce Springsteen has helped me over shitload of obstacles in my life, and I'm only turning 21. His music is what I can rely always. He's just something so big to me that I cant even describe it really. Some people believe in superheroes, how the fly and wear cool logo on their chests.. have that cape around their neck.. how they have different types of powers. Well, Bruce is a hero to me, with his music I can walk down the street with a smile on my face.

  • that is a great comment!

  • Meryl! Jersey girl

  • good, very good

  • A M A Z I N G ! ! !

  • bruce's smile says it all :)

  • Is she channeling the Joker at 0:28

  • Kenny Aronoff looks like he died and went to heaven on those drums. That must have been a blast, getting to play with so many people whose bands he was a big part of.

  • heyy springsteen is watching this!

he shouldve played this song WITH her (:

  • Cross between bonnie tyler and celine dion! Much better when she sings with bruce on accoustic

  • she is so amazing and always gots so much positive energy... youtube.com/watch?v=Nfmy8mWeMos

  • not as good as the boss

  • @dariuszdavies

No, not as good, but she still does it justice.

  • Imagine having to play "Born to Run" in that band and knowing that if you screw up a note or chord, it's going to be heard by Bruce Springsteen AND the president. Must be a tough gig. Kudos to Albert Einstein for the sax solo too, LOL.

  • The doors will swing out and down the aisle I'll walk to this song on my wedding day. Without question. "Let me guide your dreams and visons." I men really what is more romantic?

  • There could have never been a better choice to pay tribute to him.. It was one of those universal things that is so right and so, so good..

  • for the first time ever, I clapped at a you tube video..

  • How can this not be one of the best songs of all time!

Watching Melissa play to Bruce and the president puts the whole thing in very clear perspective. It's not just a great song, It's personal and universal at the same time!

  • Albert Einstein on the sax! WOO

  • Holy crap!! She rocks this!!

  • It's great that she was able to do this... she absolutely WORSHIPS Bruce.

  • Etheridge does great Springstein, they sing great together too...

    rocked the place!

  • Melissa Etheridge Rocks !

  • This is Bruces worst gig.

  • Anybody know who the spectator who shows up at 2:28 seconds is? She is on during many of the clips and she is drop dead gorgeous!

  • @gschechter it is either sharon stone or the other person who is meryl streep

  • why oh why do they edit musical performances for tv?

I wonder if someone has footage of the whole thing

  • Excellent performance!

  • Melissa totally gets it. She should start a Springsteen cover band and tour. She'd have 10x the audience.

  • @jensenbell Are you kidding me first of all she barely played anything and everything she did play was only in first position. I'd give her more credit if she wrote the song which she didn't. Worst performance of the night. Best performance that night was sting.

  • Kenny Arenoff on the drums can play the jazz fusion lick played by Ernest 'Boom' Carter on the recording of Born To Run that Max Weinberg couldn't figure and has never played maybe Kenny can teach Max this?

  • Her performance was fantastic. Check out her tribute in Tina Turner´s Kennedy Center Honors - another spectacular performance...

  • man she nailed it.

obama is sooo cool, rocking to springsteen!!

bruce... u are THE ROCK GOD

  • excellent choice having Melissa perform this

  • Melissa your my hero!

  • Melissa I love u!

  • Obama looks baked when he listens to music. One more reason I supported him

  • She did this song Grrrr...eat! Good job!

  • wow!

  • This version has grown on me more and more, theres a sincerity in it, much like what you sense when you hear springsteen sing it, that invokes emotions, and for me, memories of me with friends and old girlfriends in my fathers 72 camero, truly a "suicide machine" thats given me many great stories over the years

  • Bruce .. looking on like a proud papa

  • You are so right! And I don't know who could cover this song better. Melissa rocks!

  • Isn't that Blue Lou Marini? fro The blues brothers (among others)?

  • Wow.... she really nailed it. did bruce proud, she did.

  • This rocked! Go Melissa!

  • Awesome!!!

    Melissa was rhe BEST!

  • Melissa killed this.. in a good way!!

Look at Meryl Streep, she's LOVING IT! haha

  • you know i just watched all the performers and Melissa was the best!!

  • if any chick can do this and nail it it is her!! awesome job

  • Upstaged Sting!

  • Sax dude is ok but he's no Clarence. Luv u man!!!

  • Melissa totally nailed it!! I was worried when she took the mic ... but then she totally came through. You go Girl!!

  • Why would you be worried? It's Melissa.

  • @oneazariah always amazing!!! Melissa rocks!!!

  • I never thought anyone else could pull this song off, and I was quite sceptical of a woman singing it due to the gritty sound - but she really was amazing, and Bruce looked really pleased during that performance ^.^

    Great stuff!

  • the musics shitty but shes good.

  • This is Fantastic..After doin' Thunder Road with Bruce on her MTV Unplugged, this is the ultimate Kick A** tribute to the boss..He would've loved it..And Melissa ALWAYS knocks it outta the ballpark..with no effort whatsoever.Awesome song choice&F**K Yeah,Melissa ROCKS!!

  • dionano82 I Will More From Melissa Etheridge!!!

    Thank You!

  • Melissa Etheridge is spectacular! I love her album Yes I Am!

  • Love watching Milissa Etheridge! Great performer and singing a great Springsteen song too!!!

  • Go melissa!!!!!yea!

  • Fantastic! I only wish she'd done the full version of the song. I want more!

  • @Chicagoan444

    i think she did

they probably edited this...as im sure they do all the time

  • MELISSA ETHERIDGE FOREVER!!!

    WOW, it is so great!

    MELISSA ROCKS!!!

    She´s so sexy!!!

  • Bruce Springsteen forever too...

    !!!

  • @zebraschwein25 always the best !!! in her own songs and in covers... So powerful, just.... the best ... I adore her!!! Melissa nobdoy move us like the way you do...

  • @Jonatalie1976 It's extremely good but don't say it's better than he original!

  • @Martz92 He aint Clarence "Big man" Clemons, the only one who can ever do the Sax solo in born to Run. The greatest Sax player in Rock and Rock

  • pessima

se bruce fosse morto si rivolterebbe nella tomba

ma è vivo grazie a dio

eddie il solo ad everlo onorato davvero

  • i love the idea of doing this to honor bruce and the concept of honoring him but i was wishing bruce would zipline down and pick up melissa's pieces. granted, must be a hard song to cover

  • Where is this guy on the drums!?

  • His name is Kenny Aronoff...I think he toured with John Fogerty in November...and he has played with the Bombastic Meatbats lately...?!

  • @dionano82 And Mellencamp on all his hits.

  • @dionano82 Chad Smith is the drummer of the Bombastic Meatbats...

  • Kenny is Mellancamp's original drummer and played with him for years... that's where he got his notoriety. He has since left Mellancamp and played with Melissa, Fogerty, Smashing Pumpkins and LOADS of studio work. He's a go to guy for lots of singer/songwriters that have great producers looking to record a hit. And he is a gentleman too!

  • @thespunk99 thanks for the info...

  • @thespunk99 I was just commenting on Aronoff. I've met him at Guitar Center clinics. Unbelievable talent. snare drum technique is vicious. You notice how in deference to Max and Bruce he changed his drumkit up? He usually rides with his left hand on the hi hat and has more drums and cymbals but he set up like Max Weinberg for this show and crossed over his hands.

  • @thespunk99 Kenny played for Aerosmith this year and played at the 2010-11 kenendy ctr awards during the Paul McCartney tribute since it was Steven Tyler singing

  • @bossfan21 He was the drummer of Linda Ronstad's band in the 70s as well as with many musicians around the CSN&Y people. It's a fantstic performance of Melissa with one of the greatest songs of all times !

  • 2:29 Meryl Streep, wow she looks very happy and is jumping around in her seat it looks like :) Love this XD

  • I guess I don't see anything abnormal with her eyes. She has big expressive eyes and having seen her many times on stage, I see nothing odd here. She rocked this house!

  • bris2world - Gee she's had major cancer and has been through lots of other things - give her a break! Drugs? No, just "medications" for treatments...

  • Slimbo, my dear Slimbo... playing the cancer card? How lame!!! She was declared CANCER FREE in 2005!!! Are you telling me that if I recover from cancer, then 4 YEARS LATER I will have crazy eyes like that??? I don't think so. By the way... what are these "lots of other things" she has been through??? Looks to me like she has been through a whole truckload of Colombia's finest.

  • bris2world: Yeah - point taken.

Post-cancer I'd probably want to have a great time, too - with drugs or whatever...

    Slim

  • I've seen her live several times since 1992, and she pretty much always makes the crazy eyes when she sings really vivacious songs (cases in point: Bring Me Some Water, I Really Like You, Your Little Secret, etc.)

  • that was great.go melissa!

  • read the information on the side of the video and look at him watching her.......he is honored and smiling....you have a potty mouth.

Melissa Etheridge pays tribute to Bruce Springsteen at 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors Awards

  • You are too good to address a child that speaks without thinking and you are correct. The boss is honored by this excellent cover of his classic.

  • If he thinks that he's the boss..."the boss of idiots"!!!...and we all knows he's not!

    Go Melissa, you rock!!!

  • Is that the great Lou"Blue Lou" Marini on sax?

One of the Blues Brothers and so much more.

  • @sinmike1 that is Blue Lou

  • Both are THE BOSS! Their music is up there somewhere very high. Keep rolling that rock!

  • what's your address, Amanda?

  • my oh my.... melissa rocks so hard!!

You can tell that the boss is proud!

Great song, great preformence!!!! Love both the Boss and the Chief!! And happy new year!

  • Melissa at her best ever,,,,,

  • Great performance, but did CBS edit the songs? This one and the Mellencamp performance of BITUSA had missing verses.

  • Of all the performances on this program, I liked this one the best.

  • GREAT video! Thank you NANO!

  • This is such an awesome performance. If anyone can cover Bruce, it is Melissa.

  • why rock did you crawl out of speak

  • true pascal

  • Sunlover...,

pascal??? I am not stressed at all. You are judging again. My, my you are fond of yourself. And not in a good way, might I add.

If you are saying she forced it, you are way off base also.

You are boring me with your petty ignorance on life and love and how to treat others as you would want to be treated. Spew away with your disdain for everything that doesn't revolve around yourself. I have better things to do than have "a battle of wits with someone who's unarmed!"

    SpeakTruer

  • bunch of ultra liberals on here

  • sunlover518,

You comment on my channel & then block me! Yet, you call yourself 1st class! I think not. You disrespect her and call it a comment & 'I' need to get over MYSELF!! You are funny. You say you're a size 2, you don't look like a size 2 and you don't look 52. Bigger and older. Sorry to tell you. Someone should stop telling you your beautiful or whatever makes you feel so superior. That's an ugly trait in a person. Learn to love & respect all. Try! Is that a Glamour shots?

    SpeakTruer

  • jesus i think she is talented i was just making a comment get over yourself

  • Comment removed

  • She tore that place up!!! What an amazing woman. What a rocker. She better be in the R&R hall of fame by 2012!!! She so deserves it. Been at it for over 25 years of showing how it's meant to sound!

    SpeakTruer

  • I felt sorry for Eddie Veddar and Sting. They just couldn't match Melissa's performance. I didn't think anyone else could really sing this song except for the Boss, but she did great.

  • What can I say Melissa, YOU ROCK!

  • No matter what she does I love it. The only artist I have always come back to.

  • Not so bad.

But still the boss is bruce

  • You best have some fire in your belly to sing this passionate piece...
