Lee Dorsey! Allen Toussaint! The Meters! Motown-not?!? Greatest thing (besides the food) about growing up in New Orleans is exposure to all the unique original funk/dance/soul music ! Love this song & thank you for posting! DAVEDJ
The meters were the back up band on the original recording of this song. That's not them backing up Lee on this set though. Too bad, that would have been cool, but this is still amazing.
Insane to think that Lee went back to being a car mechanic after his heyday was over.
They're Fins - this is the most exposure they ever had to black musicians - up close - in one sitting! I dunno, they're groovin' to it pretty good for Northern Europeans. I come from like stock (Nor.). We aren't that emotive for much of anything. Look how blase the Sweed's were when Death Himself came to play chess...
I used to think the same thing when I observed how sedate the foreign audiences were....however, overseas, the audience is actually LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE PERFORM--THEN THEY CLAP AFTER THE PERFORMER IS FINISHED WITH HIS/HER ACT. I was listening to an interview with Steve Cropper (Booker T and the MGS) and he said that this spooked them at first until they realized what was happening and that this was how foreigners coducted themselves at concerts. Kinda funny, I thought!
@catheyeluvsmusic It's fine (and preferred) not to scream, but moving doesn't make any noise. These people seems as dour and soulless as Germans are credited as being (but usally aren't). Or, if you prefer, as unemotional as Vulcans like to portray themselves as.
Great show. The Cultural House in Helsinki, Finland was famous of rough staff. They carried out the wild audience so late as late 1970's. I think the firs big riot in there was in 1980 winter in rock and roll band contest. The lifestyle in Finland was very differend from U.S. style back then.
@Mobanc I am talking about your comment "How can they possibly sit still to this omg !!!!!" by pointing out that there is no room in the crowded theater to get up and dance.
lol, they're northern hemisphere white folks conforming to conventional 1960s etiquette - the zombie factor was in full effect. Actually, I think they're just being awfully polite - it would have been really wild, man, to display any outward signs of emotion.
He was trying his beat to perform,, but the audience wasnt much help... i love this track... reminnds me of so much,,,

Lee appeared a couple of times at The Oasis Club in Manchester in 1965. This was the real 60's music. RIP Lee.

I guess it's because I can't imagine myself sitting so still to such hip-shkaing music.

I know exactly what you're saying ;) I wonder why they never got to the part of the song where it goes "Pistol yeah.. now get ready..
Now shoot! Shoot! Shoot!" I was sooo looking forward to that bit...
