@wravenoak I think it is an atheistic apologists dream movie. It completely distorts the fact that the main impulse for the Crusades was religious., not some modern PC dream of uniting all the people in a lovely hippy tent of peace and happiness.

@craziii3 Well like any period of conflict in history the story is more complicated and layerd than it appears. But for the Crusades with their medievil mindset of pure fear about damnation and sin, religion was literally a matter of life and death and in particular the death of their immortal souls. Religion really mattered to them.

The Nobles who went on Crusade spent in modern terms hundreds of millions of £,$ or whatever your currency is to pay for their expeditions.

@craziii3 Some of these nobles didnt care about the consequences for themselves but others combined their main religious purpose with making sure that they at least broke evn and didnt go back as bankrupts.

This increased the power and wealth of the church. The church was often left in charge of property when the Lord left. If he died the church owned it. Templars and simialar societies rose to prominence also. Religion was just the rallying cry. A lot of blood was spilled for the Cross. Led astray by the Church itself. Opportunists rose up.
