i liked the guy before, but wow. That is a real guy that loves the fans and fights for the right reasons. Brock Lesnar turned himself around, but has diverticulitis wich will make things hard for him hence the step off of the Santos fights. I hope we get to see Struve healthy for a long time. He is getting better all the time and i love the dutch kick boxing. Peter Aerts fan for life. Also i got tickets to the Overeem fight june 18. Struve is the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't like him initially because he's dead lanky but he's actually a very good fighter, and for some reason I start liking lanky fighters(Nate Diaz, Jon Jones...)
@fuckingkimura i know i was just adding to your point. wasnt arguin or nothin. lankier guys struggle with wrestlin tho. Im 6'5 205, and better wrestlers can take me down no problem it seems. watever i like to play in the guard....
@burning1er good for you mate :) you a professional fighter? I started MMA recently. Should put some muscles on as well, and be a HW when fighting, bet guys cant take you down anymore
@fuckingkimura nononono certainly not a pro. Im just training in jiu jitsu most days and sneak in an mma class and muay thai when i can. Its hard to balance weight training and martial arts, but its slowly working. THe muscle is comin, im young so i have all the time in the world. jiu jitsu is something i will definately compete in, MMA is up in the air though.
@burning1er Trust me man I am definitely younger than ya... I started Luta Livre and wrestling and I am thinking fighting as an amateur. How old are ya? And some fighters dont seem to care about weight training at all. GSP said that he only lifted weight to look better lol, and Diaz brothers... they dont look like they lift weights haha
@fuckingkimura im 19. I love weight training but technique>strength always. i dont like dedicating too many days a week to weights. And GSP says that but its bullshit. He does olympic weightlifting, he calls it a sport but that is the best weight training for functional explosive strength. He is naturally an endurance guy so you will never see him doing high rep bench or rows or something. What is luta livra? Im training at Toronto BJJ, give it a google search. Some big BJJ names there.
@burning1er haha I am only 14, and I started training at Team Kaobon in Liverpool just this month actually. and wow have you actually trained with Shogun or even just his trainers? Royler Gracie and indeed some big names here man...
@fuckingkimura no shogun wil make an appearance and do seminars and stuff but ive never been to any of that. Jorge britto is always around teaching classes and he is a top bjj competitor. That is awesome that you are starting at 14, a lot of potential there. Good luck with your training.
I really like this kid, he has some legit skills for only 23 and once he packs on some more pounds and becomes more explosive he’s going to be a threat in the HW division. He needs to get bigger without losing cardio and speed. If we were to walk around at 280+ he would be really difficult for all but the top 5HW fighters to deal with.
For the people who dont know, the guy thats kicking his ass in sparring is Daniel Ghita, one of the ebst kickboxers in the world. So its not like hes gettin owned by a nobody, lol
I'll always associate Stefan Struve with YouTube, but for a different reason than most...
After UFC 99 in Cologne, Germany I was at the hotel where the fighters were staying. I had just seen the fights, including Struve's bloody battle with Dennis Stojnic. We were both going for the same computer, but he offered it to me despite him being a budding star & a horrific gash. I insisted he take it, and reluctantly he did. What did he do? Look up his fight that just happened on YouTube!
Stefan Struve is at best a B list fighter. He sucks. He holds wins over nobodies. Once he fights a semi decent guy (Roy "Lard ass" Nelson, he loses. They keep putting nobodies in front of him to make him look good, just like Michael Bisping. If Michael Bisping fought the best fighters he would get killed and there would be no market in England. Am I crazy, or does this make sense?
@rumblingrick i see the point you're trying to make, but Bisping has got skills whether you're a fan or not, & most of Struve's fights have been wars, they may have been "nobodies" in terms of not being top 10 superstars, but he has earned every victory he's had & is clearly improving. The same negativity could be aimed at Jim Miller, Melvin Guillard, and other fighters of this calibre. Who have they fought that is REALLY A-List? Regardless they are putting in work & winning wars.. You suck ;)
yes golden glory is prime i agree. but ghita is a top 4 k-1 heavyweight. but i guess struve didnt learn much from him considering he got caught by that superman punch.
@Zoous201 I know right dude i feel the same way and i'm 6"7 with a 79 inch reach and everytime i see stefan or bones jones or kendall grove in there it's exciting to watch
He reminds me of a young Semmy Shiltz....Struve will probably be a problem for most heavyweights in the near future....Having that reach standing and on the ground he'll be able to do body triangles easy....Once he fills out and gets stronger...
I see him fighting till he is 30, maybe early 30s, and then he will start having knee problems, but he will probably become champ before that, and 30 is a good year to retire, not every one can be couture
@qyet121csx actualy he said he likes to train for about 3 hours a day (fight is only 15 mins). I think when he is a little older and has more hi profile competition he will be training 5-6 hour days, not to mention pressure from Dana. i guess only time will tell
@MrTrigva, bigger guys need more rest, I think its that simple. What Sean Sherk used to do in camp and what brock lesnar did were 2 completely different things :) Dana has no place telling anyone how to train and he knows it
