  • We (Americans) are lucky to have made the move we did, when we did. It wasn't a very graceful action but Germany was feeling left behind in all the colonial activities that were the early white history of the region.

  • Very interesting. As a resident of Hawaii, the history was particularly fun to see. I loved the ending where they were talking about the University of Hawaii and how "Maybe someday there will be a president of the United States who will call Hawaii home."

  • What disgraceful trash.

"Voted to become territorials" in 1893? Who voted? Was it the "...United States Minister [who] thereupon extended diplomatic recognition to the Provisional Government that was formed by the conspirators without the consent of the Native Hawaiian people or the lawful Government of Hawaii and in violation of treaties between the two nations [Hawaii and the U.S.] and of international law"? (US Pub.L. 103−150).

Minitrue never passes a chance at propagating cynical lies.

  • @romundsen Yup -- it was a collusion between the US government and businessmen to overthrow the legitimate government. That's the unfortunate truth -- however history would have been very different if Japan had attacked and claimed Hawaii before the US built up its power first. It was a strategic move that in the end was better for the people. Japan does not have a good history of being kind to conquered territories.

  • @lohphat. Japan was actually going to become a part of Hawaii. Litterarly! Things could've been different then too! But I don't believe that Japan was going to invade Hawaii. Japan was the last country to reconize Hawaii as so-called U.S. territory. In fact, when the United States overthrew Hawaii, Japan issued protest against the United States claiming that America's invastion was illegal! And even if Japan DID invade Hawaii, it would not make no difference! America did just the same.

  • Towards the end, he said that someday maybe a Hawaiin might become presedent. Well, I guess that happened! Obama!
