Gosh, I wish it came back. Saw it twice in London and once in NY. Sooooooooo good! My favorite play Hamlet and in a way different that I just fell in love!
I saw Hamlet with my boyfriend in November of 09. I met him when he was signing autographs after the show. Not a lot of actors thank their fans in person. He was was polite and charming <3
He is a great actor, to "bad" :) he is soooo handsome that people often forget how great he is and inteligence in acting. I love his passion, his energy. He is the guy i would love to have beer with him and talk, i think he is very generous and warm person in his real life.
I never thought I would say this, but this Jude Law performance of Hamlet may be one of the best I've seen thus far. Too many fall flat and this is really engaging and full of the conflict and life that Shakespeare meant it to have.
I was taken to see this by my Mum for my 22nd birthday, we were late having to come from Northamptonshire by train, got stuck in London traffic and missed the first half of the performance. But it was great ! Law was brilliant. If I could have the whole day again just seeing one half of the performance, I would. Mum your the best !!!
My English teacher found out that this was happening while we were reading Hamlet. Unfortunately, it wasn't running very long, and, despite our pleadings, we never could manage to get a Red Eye to New York together...
The guy who comes on at 1:19 talking to jude - i met him randomly one time and we chatted for a while, he was so inspiring and open to talking about his experiences - even showed me jude laws mobile number! But he said how lovely jude was and how he would take the cast out clubbing and they would crawl back at ridiculous times in the morning but jude would be up and ready to perform :)
I think Jude Law is a great actor, but hamlet was written more as a theatre piece then I think it's usually given credit for. We try to make it into a serious, flowing story, but back when it was written, men were still playing womens roles. It was pure theatre, with grand statements and exaggerated emotions. To try to turn that into a serious play is very difficult (in my opinion).
I wish I COULD HAVE SEEN THIS! I dunno know if they came to the states but still! WHY CAN'T I LIVE IN LONDON?! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
For those of you who got to see it, YOU ARE SO LUCKLY! PLUS, PLUS! You would be like so close to him. *wails* He probably did amazing. >>; ANYHOW! THANKS FOR UPLOADING!
@coramunroe Law has 'borrowed' a lot from Richard Burton. Some would say plagiarized. Ah well Law knows a master when he sees one. But deserving a Tony for stealing from Burton, I think not.
@hazlitt1 Tim burton, Master at playing hamlet?? *Clears Throat*...I assume you haven't seen Laurence Olivier performance yet? he kicks Burtons ASS!! But Burton is one of the best actors ever lived, no doubt about that!!
@freedomland11 Olivier himself disagrees with you. Larry Olivier himself declared Burton a superior shakespearean. Jude Law, Ken Branagh etc also disagree as they invariably copy Burton when performing Hamlet, Henry V, Coriolanus and anything they can get their hands on tthat Burton recorded. I have researched this for many years.
@hazlitt1 Wow, you took way beyond where I would've taken it. You actually wrote an entire paragraph explaining your idea to me! LOL, listen 1st. Od cours Olivier would praise Burton, he wouldn't not like him as Hamlet. 2nd..Its the directors choice in how they want the actor to portray a character, so Jude did his best. I'm an actor and did Hamlet!!
@freedomland11 I doubt very much that all their directors have asked Jude Law, Ken Branagh et al to all copy Burton! Even if the phony directors did 'force' Law, Brannagh et al to copy Burton, it is incumbent on Law, Brannagh, etc. to fes up and acknowledge Burton from whom they stole. You haven't denied Law plagiarized, you are now simply suggesting Law was commanded by his director to copy Burton.
@hazlitt1...Don't you understand that Hamlet has been played hundreds maybe even thousands of times. For you to say that Law copied Burton is just absurd and sorry to say, but ignorant. An actor will take Hamlet and transform him into there own character. Jude Law took Hamlet as he would have foreseen Hamlet in action, that's All!!
@freedomland11 Law didn't 'Transform' hamlet, he copied the inflexion patterns, pauses, emphasis choices etc from Burton. There are sound and voice analysis machines which show this. Law, Branagh and others have consistantly stolen from Burton. Do your home work rather than blindly defending Law who you are obviously bessoted with.
@jenna24de Ridiculous, isn't it? Whether or not an actor BORROWS ( "steal" is such a drama queen expression) some techniques from another actor is irrelevant. That this brings joy to people watching it is all that matters. Jude does great as Hamlet. I enjoyed this and wish I'd have been lucky enough to see him perform it. The majority of people viewing this are of the same opinion; those criticizing it do so out of a sorry lack of anything constructive to do with their time. BRAVO, Jude! :)
He was spectacular and being a MAJOR fan of Hamlet and it being my favourite Shakespeare play. I've seen 5 adaptions of it and Jude, as much as I did not expect it, was definitely one of my favourites.
He showed SO many layers and by the end I did shed a few tears.
PLUS it did help that he looked positively gorgeous allllll of the way through.
Personal favourite scene- "to be or not to be" in the snow and his BRILLIANT physicality.
It's nice to see two of Britain's two hottest & talented actors doing Hamlet on both sides of the pond to great success at much the same time! Both he and David Tennant in the RSC production are sensational!
I was lucky to have the chance to see Jude as Hamlet on Broadway during a visit to NYC in December. What an experience! He was simply brilliant on stage!!! Better than in any movie role I have seen him. I also wish I could have seen him more than once, and I wish there was a DVD of Jude's Hamlet!
Arg... My last comment didnt get posted, internet disconnect.
Anyway, just wanted to say how much I LOVE Jude and his work! It would have been my dream to see him live on stage and I would have savored the pleasure of seeing him and admiring his talent and beauty! Wow, wow! Anyway, no mulah for that but one day I will do. So nice to see how far his talent has brought him, and I know theres more of it to come for all to enjoy. Much love to my all time favorite actor Jude Law! XOXO ;-)
Just saw this last night on Broadway. Jude Law is brilliant!! He completely owns the role & every word he speaks throughout this gorgeous production!! His stage presence & performance: phenomenal!!!
Saw this last Friday -- absolutely amazing in every way. Jude Law is mind-bogglingly spectacular; the way he played Hamlet is exactly the way I have always envisioned the character. Perfect.
How do you rate Hamlet perfection? ....... "Jude Law". He is in a league of his own, simply brilliant ! So, given, I also think we have to give notice to others that are nearly as brilliant in this wonderful cast; Matt Ryan as Horatio, Gwilym Lee as Laertes (really easy on the eyes! LOL) and John MacMillan as Rosencrantz. My only regret is I only could see it twice.
Alright. It was absolutely amazing! Jude law is awesome, but not only him, all the other people as well. It was funny (when called for) and intense. I was captivated the whole time.
