Actually joe, it was discovered in 1540 by conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado and his men. One of his soilders desended a third of the way into the canyon but had to turn back due to LACK of water, therefore the Grand Canyon couldn't have been filled with water 300 years ago, a more accurate statment would have been 300 MILLION years ago.
300 years ago the grand canyon was a water filled area with many animals and plant life <=== sharin teh knowledge
