I was there in 1970. We were a bunch of college students on a road trip to the Grand Canyon from San Diego.
Jerome had been abandoned because the mines beneath the town had hollowed out under the houses.
We entered one house that was balanced on a water pipe that ran under it. If you walked from the front door to the dining room the whole house would teeter on the pipe.
Needless to say we got out of there fast!
Nowadays, the inhabited houses are those who sit on rock that is stable.
@superslowdan is that when you take mushrooms and walk the town? or do you believe people actually die, turn into ghosts, and walk the earth.. on a specific date only?
We were in Jerome a couple of years ago. At that time, Dan Robertson, owner, showed us a 1929 Studebaker race car is rebuilt. As a matter of fact, he asked us if we would like to hear it. Dan fired it up ... and the most beautiful roar came from the engine. He had painted it yellow ... really awesome. He also had another vehicle he had rebuilt. At the time, we were the only ones in the building.
Beautiful video of Jerome, Arizona Dan. I was there in September, 2011 for the first time on my vacation. I really liked this Ghost Town of Jerome. I see there are places that I missed. I will definitely have to go back and check them out. Thank you for your artistic video production. I got a lot of nice shots while I was there too.
beautifully shot. one of the most inspiring and haunting places i've ever seen. i grew up 10 minutes down the hill from jerome and there's stuff in this video even i haven't seen (where are the "painless dentist" and the school house located?)
I saw this place on i believe it's called ghost chasers. Every maintinance person who claimed they saw the ghost lady when they worked in the former hospital turned into a now hotel killed themselves.
I Havent been to jerome since i was a child. i live in phoenix and jerome is a peaceful place when you want to get away from the city. i hope to visit agian!
@rolanda69 In 1974 I picked up a hippie chick named Abagail ...she lived in a shack on one of the Hills in Jerome...she said there was a Frank Lloyd Wright house on top of the Hill...horse stables for some horses at the base of the Hill. Everything in her kitchen spice rack had maryjane in it LOL!!!
@shoopa101 Fancy that...old Abagail was pulling our legs...there was a really modern looking house up on top of the hill....all the artist/hippies would play music/instruments at sundown. for the owner...they referred to the owner of the house as God...lol.
@MrJojogun i went there unintentionally back in 2008 when we took a family trip to Arizona, and we just decided on a limb to go up into jerome...we ate at Haunted Hamburger (great food)...and we septn some time in sedona, flagstaff, grand canyon, and scottsdale (which is where the Frank Lloyd Wright building is...i found out it is actually a school and is still sometimes used
aah, thank you Dan! an enchanted moment, about brought tears to my eyes, Ten years slipped by so fast, and it's all still just right there as I remember it. Great video. DJH

BTW none of that tourist stuff was there. It was really abandoned in 1970.
Then some hippies moved in and the rest is history.
