Pure Genius! He set the stage for all the electronic music to come later. There may never be anymore innovators like him, Les Paul , Leo Fender or Jim Marshall.
Great videos. It would be really neat to have that kind of program where you do everything yourself, rather than having to work with only that which was preconceived by other people. The benefits to being able to just shape the wave yourself, by hand, seem obvious.
"...it's something you can try and listen to, and just forget about it if it sounds too ridiculous..." - Moog.
I doubt he realized then it would take less than one generation for that concept to be widespread and taken for granted.
Reminds me of working with analog gear such as clunky multi-track reel-to-reels. Unless you were jamaican, you never felt the urge to fiddle around with one just for the 'heck of it' or to 'see what happens'.
I dont think he is a poor speaker. This never gets boring and you can feel the tension in the air how serious he is to explain what the thing can do, and at the same time how well prepared he is with sounds and funny things for entertainment
this makes all modern samplers look stupid. load content, but much less abilities to tweak
Well thank you very much for sharing the videos! Right now I feel like watching every video I can find from him. :)
And he should be much more known! Every keyboard should be sold with this video! I use to think he was the guy behind the Minimoog but I did not know how implicated he was for the whole synthesizer Universe.
Well the Fairlight he is describing is probably a series I or II.
The series IIx have MIDI and can control any synth or sampler with midi.
It has 8 voices as a whole and can use the voices as you chose to. But You have to chose what voice to play what sound, unless You chose whole polofony.
Hard to explain, but every voice has it´s own sound card.
I owned one myself a few years back and I miss it badly. Most because it sounds so ANALOG!!!!
nice but boy is he a horrible speaker, hehe, but it's good to have these videos still. It would be nice to see a Moog family history, though I suppose I can get that on wikipedia.
Just curious what he meant by 8 lines. What is the fairlight capable of sequencing? Is it able to sequence polyphonic sequences while also playing beats and monophonic lines? Can you play external gear? Like a dx7 or a sampler?
I was lucky enough to meet both him and J. J. Perrey at a talk they gave on the history of the Moog synthesizer and some of the weird and wonderful albums that his companies' machines inspired. A truly wonderful man and an inspiration to anyone involved in the creation of sound. I couldn't stop laughing from 8:20 onwards!
Absolutely Genius!

Thanks for sharing Jeff...
Did Dr. Moog help to develop this machine?
I was lucky enough to meet both him and J. J. Perrey at a talk they gave on the history of the Moog synthesizer and some of the weird and wonderful albums that his companies' machines inspired.
