  • Your not suppose to dry your brushes laying flat because the water can still find its way have it hanging down

  • Yeah exact what tonic said. I'm really getting into makeup tutorials and I love yours since you seem so friendly and personable. Thanks!

  • Thanks Lauren I love your video's I enjoy watching your stuff. There is plenty of makeup tutorials but i just love how personable and down to earth and real you are, look forward to all your stuff

    Greetings from Argentina!!!!

  • i have no idea how the my white mac brushes come so clean everytime!! xx

  • Does it matter what shampoo you use?

  • Try Tea Tree shampoo! It's amazing!

  • THis is very helpful :D thanks.

  • Thank you this was helpful!

  • Thank you I didn't know how to clean them!

  • Lauren thnks 4 da video :)

  • Dis actually works, I try dis technique & I got da best results

  • e.l.f. sells make up brush shampoo. Its really reasonable too ($3 in the US). I do have to say, I do use running water.

  • @Batcat1313 thats not very nice. You can leave ur opinion without spewing venomous comments. Also, this was almost 2 years ago, I'm sure she has a different technique now.

  • @Batcat1313 thats not very nice. You can leave ur opinion without spewing venomous comments. Also, this was almost 2 years ago, I'm sure she has a different technique now. I love keyboard warriors!

  • and now you will have a rough brushes instead of a soft one, when you're not sure what you are doing ...DON'T

  • you are very pretty :)

  • Ignore them girl there probley jelous

  • Thank you so much for sharing this info.

  • i'd just like too say that all those ignorant people who think that just because there safe from any trouble caused from there nasty comments are stupid. just be lucky that shes willing to spend give up her time to teach her trade because i am. keep up the good work

  • THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR, THANK YOU SO MUCH :)

  • Something what I can add is that there are thousands of bacterias in the kitchen sink so it is good to decontaminated it first.

  • Thats one expy bottile of shampoo...

  • Thank you for making this tutorial. I've recently bought some nicer brushes that I want to care for properly. So, thanks again! :)

  • The easier way is to just fill a plastic cup with a dish soap,i use Dawn Antibacterial dish soap and let the brushes soak for a bit and then rinse with warm water.

  • @Secretgirl93 That would melt the glue holding the brush hairs together and would rust the metal plate as well. That's why she said don't place it in a cup but lay it flat on a kitchen towel.

  • Your videos are really cool, thanks for sharing!!

How do you dry the brushes btw?

  • We clean our brushes the same way in art. //You're so concerned with the hot water causing the glue to come undone and yet you pull so hard on the bristles. Idgi. All that does is ruin your brush& cause the hair to fall out.

  • Fab vid! Cleaned all my brushes after watching this and they came up a treat!! Xxxx

  • very very helpful ;)

  • how often do you clean your brushes?

  • i really enjoy all your videos, thank you for making them!=)

  • isnt it kind of dirty that its the same water washing all the brushes? i dont know how that keeps it clean.. well the color comes off but the germs seem to still sit in the brushes?

  • Thank you i just bought my first set off makeup brushes and had to was all 32 lol, if anyone is nasty about the way you put on your makeup they are just jealous cause you can do it, i love your videos they are awesome :)

  • if u lay yur brushes like that water can still get in so u use a brush guard and but brissels down first

  • thanks for the tips :D

  • Love all your tips! You are the best!

  • impressive recommendations. thanks!, have anybody used Rimmels most recent range of products?! it's difficult to obtain decent makeup in Cordova yet i managed to obtain stunning samples by using "Gratis-Makeup-Samples", they're awesome.

  • when i clean my brushes i put them upside down in a cup because laying them flat, the water still has a way to get to the glue but its only when i clean mine :)

  • u sound irish like me

  • Hi,

I like how you did this video on how to take care of the make up brushes and what you are using to clean it! thank you so much! Great job!!

  • You are the best

  • thank you!!! id been washin mines pretty much horridly apparently LOLS! mines would always lose hairs & shape cuz i really scrub them flat down and i never smoothed them back into shape (dunno why i figured they'd just pop back into shape)

  • I love the idea of using baby shampoo to clean makeup brushes! Shampoos for babies contain very gentle cleansers that are still good at removing dirt, and they are usually inexpensive. I paid $22 for a professional brush cleaning solution a couple of weeks ago. I won't be doing that again!

  • Lauren, u r truly an inspiration! I love ur videos, xo!

  • why you don't use a running water, why you keep water in the sink? you use sink for washing things and maybe leave the bacteries. Brushes using for the skin on your face or model faces, should be in the right care.

I am not trying to againts you, I love your art and hard work. But better use right way for your brushes especially when you use them for other person's skin.

  • Sweetie, I don't see enough rinsing here. I want more clear running water. I shampoo once and rinse, rinse, rinse. Then I slip a Brush Guard up from the bottom of the handle and dry head down.

  • um...i don't actually see anything to be negative about. these tutorials are so helpful i have learned a lot from lauren

  • You actually are truly pretty, thanks a lot for the video clip. it is actually sad im living within Limaville considering that i can't end up getting good makeup, on the other hand i get no cost cosmetic samples from 'Gratis Makeup Samples'. i absolutely adore MAC make-up!

  • That happens to be almost exactly how I clean my makeup brushes as well. I'm glad that I've been doing it almost right all along. Thanks for the video! <3

  • Thanks for this, i found this video very useful x

  • thankkkkkkksss :)

    <3

  • I do something similar, thank you :)

  • thanks!

  • You are the best. Great tutorial. And you are a beautiful lady. Thanks.

  • Who's nasty to you?...I'll kick their asses!!!

  • this is what i do! =)

  • this video was such a great help

  • easy! perfect! thank you :)

  • Don't let those haters get you down, you are a fabulous makeup artist!

  • Aww why would people be mean about you? I think you're really good at this much better than me I know zilch!

    :)

  • thanks! cute accent

  • "i'm going to take "for all hair types" literally"- lmao you're brilliant!!!!

  • I agree with the comments I've read here... Pay no heed to those who submit nasty remarks. I love the way you have helped me view cosmetics in a new, more positive light. After viewing your videos, I see that make-up can be a Celebration, as opposed to a way of covering up and hiding. So, thanks for showing me that!! Keep up your amazing work!

  • how come after a while my bristles feels kinda 'sharp'? anyone?

  • Your not using your brush correctly x

  • They are wearing down from use and cleaning... just make sure that you are using a very mild shampoo, like a baby shampoo or a special brush cleanser. Don't wash your brushes as often. Spot clean after every use, and only do a deep cleaning once or twice a month. And make sure that you don't apply too much pressure with the brush, that way the bristles will stay softer and are less likely to break,

  • how often can you wash the brushes?

  • preferably right after you use them. but i've also heard of people cleaning them at least once or twice a week. glintzy has a great brush cleaning tutorial :)

  • @sebille024 u can spot clean your brushes after every use. But do a full cleaning once or twice a month.

  • thanks lauren! that is a really helpful one, i have always been drying my brushes in a cup which ruined them!! now i know why!

  • thats exactly what i do with my brushes

  • thx so much I've been needin a really good quality video and something that explains properly but I just couldnt found one and now I've found your videos im so happy

  • Can we do this regularly? Like every 2 uses?

  • Thank you for your tips!

  • this is great, keep up the good work

  • another way (for that SUPER clean look):

step 1: apply extra virgin olive oil to the brush brissles and rub it around on a napkin or paper towel as she did on her hand... THEN do what she says in this video... this works REALLY well, especially for the white brushes

  • wow, who knew it took so much work to clean brushes! --.--

  • That was extremely informative! Thank you again for being so thorough and comprehensive! Ignore whatever mean comments people are saying about your videos--you are an excellent teacher! I'm sure I am one of many who have learned a lot from your video tutorials and I appreciate your uploads! Cheers! :D

  • Does anyone know how to clean GHD hair straighteners?

  • Hi Lauren. Thanks for all your hard work for those of us who love you so much! PLEASE don't pay any mind to those nincompoops who say negative comments about you. Most of them are just jealous anyways! Creepy people -- they are everywhere -- very seldom does a good person such as you get a pat on the back -- only grouchiness and nasty comments! Congratulations on your book signing event as well - you looked absolutely beautiful and I was so proud of you!! Love and Kudos from Canada!

  • Thank You for making this video, i never knew how to wash my brushes and got really gunky with all the make up.

    and i LOVE your watch

  • i dont know why people would be nasty, its not as if their number 1 most subscribed EVER!!!

    ;)

  • thank u for that,good advice.

    i love your tutorials

  • Your so kute and sweet! I absolutly love you..don't listen to people. I have read comments and it seems to me there are more positive ones then negative ones! Keep up the good work..I think your technique is the easiest that I've come across! I just ordered a few of your paletts from sepora . com I cant wait to get them and try them out!

  • could you show us how to take the make up ff our face n eyes without hurting our skin, and what products (make up and make up removal) compliments acne prone skin.. thanks.. u make great videos.. :)

  • Dont listen to any negative comments- they are only jealous of u girl!!! Keep up the good work!! xx

  • Don't listen to people who are being unpleasant, at the end of the day, who cares how you apply the make up as long as it looks good! Do people honestly think artists all paint the same? Rubbish, keep smiling you're doing a fabulous job, ignore their jealous little comments. Thank you for the vid, very handy stuff to know, specially about how to dry the brushes properly.

  • thanks this is really good advice! i read that you should clean your brushes in warm soapy water and leave them in there to soak :/ but this did not work ! lol ,, my brushes never really dried properly and stayed quite sticky after that but this advice really helped! thanks x

  • can you use any shampoo

  • Thank you so much for your help! xxx

  • Hiyaa i was just wondering if you have a video about where you buy yourr brushes?

  • I wouldnt lay it flat becuase EnKore said that the water would sit on the side. See Enkores video and hes got a video on how to dry Kabuki brushes.

  • this technique saved my MAC brush that I almost threw in the the bin!!! So clean now and so soft!!! I'm just glad I had Johnson's baby shampoo to hand because of my son!!

    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanx 4 this vid, it really helped and im now off 2 go clean them.

    5*

  • how often should u clean your brushes????

  • what i do i take a bar of baby soap, damp the brush and let the water run on the soap and brush the soap until theres nothing left and its easy and its the trick i found that clean them the most entirely

  • another way to clean your brushes is to do this

1)find a glass and fill it with warm water

2)put a small sqwert of any shampoo in it

3)put one of your dirty brushes into the glass and swirl it around

4)sqiieeze out the water then rinse with fresh clean water

5)plave on a clean towel for te to dry with natural air or use a hair dryer on low and on cool heat to give them a head start

    hope it also helped

  • hi lauren

its pretty interresting on how to clean these brushes but i have one question about the foundation brush..... i dont really wear much make up as it is, but once i do ... i'm not sure how to clean the foundation brush itself without ruining it

should i use this way ^ or is that too bad for my sensitve skin?

  • thanks for this! very helpful. i've always wondered the best way to clean my brushes. :)

  • Love your vids Lauren, you're very talented! Love that you have done this video, never know how to properly clean my brushes, will try it this way from now on.

    Thanks!

  • Lauren, most people who make nasty comments are either jealous or really bored.

You have the right to do your make up however you like. You do not have to do anything at all and we are so grateful that you share your ideas with us. Not once did you ever say that yours is the only and right way so ignore people who are being nasty.

You are brilliant and we love you.

Thank you for sharing with us : )

  • i think its great how you stay possitive about all the nasties. your amaziingly sweet. thanks for all of this

  • how often do you need to clean brushes??

  • Ignore all nasty comments Lauren- it's jealousy pure and simple. I love your videos- you are talented and unpretentious! Keep up the good work

  • I really like this way instead of buying expensive cleaning products for your brush. I think this way is fine and the expensive way not necessary.

  • omg who has been leaving mean comments? i will kill them :@

  • Thank you

  • can you do hair product review. you have really pretty hair.

  • Omg, calady or wtva ur name is... Keep your hair on!!! I'm pretty sure she knows how to clean her brushes otherwise she wouldn't do it that way. Obviously her brushes have lasted long enough...

Grrr, I HATE HATE HATE nastiness... I swear I'm gonna get a camera and speak out on it... Arrrrrghhhhhh!!!!!!

Btw, I like your tutorials, your camera is clear, your makeup range is REALISTIC and you come across as really talented and nice.

    :-)

  • This worked really well for my brushes, :)

    Thanks.

Can you do a video on what's in you're makeup bag ?

    <3 Amanda

  • There will always be people whom "try" & get you don't; You have your fans & that's all you truly need to keep your success =]

  • People are only nasty because they are jealous of your success, your the undeniable queen of YouTube make-up tutorials, anyone who says otherwise are just wannabees.

  • Thank you. This was very helpful.

My Mom just got me a professional set of brushes for my birthdya.

    =]

  • Thanks a bunch. I absolutely love your videos. Can you please do one with brands I can get at a department store..Like Loreal or Mabeline etc. I work at Walgreens and it would be a big help.

  • awh!

Don't let mean people get you down!

    I love you're videos!

  • She said that it would melt the glue if the silver part gets wet ...

  • Lauren is better than you...flat out. She's an amazing make up artist and knows what she's doing. You, dumb ass, obviously don't so why don't you learn something from here and shut your fucking mouth?

  • welll theres differant types to clean your brushes

Obviously this works for her and her brushes are not ruined!!!

    jeeez

  • thats supposed to say I <3 LAUREN LUKE MAKEUP!!

  • i think normal Dawn dishsoap will be to harsh on the bristles, and may slightly mis-shapen them.

You can try, but it may not work well...

    I <3 LAUREN LUKE MAKE

  • Would just normal Dawn dishsoap work?

  • Bugger the people who leave you nasty comments! You have far more fans than you do nay sayers! I think you do a wicked job and have learnt loads from you love. I always use Barry M or stargazer make-up but cos its so bright couldn't blend it very well. Thanx to you I can now, so keep up the good work and post more vids! xXx

  • I tried this! IT WORKS! I used Tresame shampoo though.

  • I have a ? I just bought a 20pc brush set should I clen them before using them or not?

  • I would clean it first :)

You never know what kind of dust or product is on it. Just a safety precaution :D

  • Okay... Well here is a question... How do you clean and unclog eyeliner-pencil sharpeners? How do you get the nasty gunk out of them? It's starting to make the thing chew up my eye-liner.

  • Do you mean the extra eyeliner that gets caught on the blade? if so I usually poke it out by running scissors or a cotton bud along the ridge... hope it helps :)

  • Thanks. Well the only problem with that is the stuff is caked on there... And the cotton fibers are getting stuck to it. Should I just go get a new sharpener?

  • Souns like you really have a high - quality eyeliner...i would but a new one...

  • I think I'd be tempted to buy a new one ... I'd suggest using eye makeup remover on the end of a cotton bud and rubbing at whatever gunk is there, but I don't know if that might end up blunting the blade.

  • i need to clean my blusher brush after I found my dad using it to dust the inside of my computer!!!

  • lmao! oh you poor thing! dad's eh? If it wasn't Father's Day I'd suggest impailing him on a stick... maybe tomorrow... lol xxxx

  • hahaha good idea x

  • haha, sounds like a typical dad move :)

  • Do I have to use baby shampoo for this or is normal shampoo/soap ok too?

  • yes but how do u clean eyeshadow thingies? you know the little paddy ones?

  • You can't really clean those.

    They are disposable.

  • Tank you for the tips coz i have never cleaned my make up brushes coz i dont wear makeup tht much coz i have eczema on my face and never new i needed to then when i found out i didnt no how to =S so this has helped me so much

  • I USE THE EXACT SAME WAY TO CLEAN MY BRUSHES! HEHE!

Although, thanks for the heads up on the hot water, alwyas used like scalding hot water when cleaning them! oops!

  • She's from Newcastle. :).
