this song reminds me of Hans Olsen, he used to sing this song to me and my crew at the end of the night, he said "keep on laughin lisa, keep on laughin, just make it out of here"! God that song brings back such memories. thank you!!!
Hey man, damn fine job. Was wondering though if the iBeam was plugged in or if you were just playing straight-up acoustic. Thanks. Again, very good job.
Hey, me again, I recently was in NYC for a holiday vacation and got into a music store down on 48th street called Manny's. I played the following acoustics: Guild JF-30 Blonde (from Westerly) Guild Jf-30 12 string Black (from Westerly) Guild D40 (from Westerly) Guild F30 Blonde (from Westerly) Washburn D46S12 Gibson SJ200 Gibson DSM Gibson DSR Martin Custom D Rosewood Martin OMC-Aura Cutaway Gibson J50 Guess what the best six string was out of all of these was. The Westerly D40 of course!
The only problem I've had with my JF30 was a bridge that kept lifting off the body. Seems the factory glued it to the finish. Had the finish stripped under the bridge, which was then glued to bare wood (which lowered the action, so I put in a new brass saddle) and haven't had a problem since (running 13 to 56 strings, so that's pretty good).
If I'm correct, they don't make these anymore (arched back with no bracing), so that means buying used.
The frets are a bit soft. Look for wear on them (maybe use it as a bargaining point). I've heard Taylor used nickel frets, which last longer, and would like to replace mine with those when it's time.
Plenty of bass because of its size, but bright enough sound thanks to the hard maple body.
Built sturdy.
Balanced feel: doesn't want to tip up or down when playing it.
honestly man i know you'll know this as a compliment to the both of you. As kick ass aas that was, and it indded was a gtreat preformance. Lyle Lovette is really a special talent don't you agree?

I should have mentioned that this was straight acoustic, and didn't use the pickup at all.
Thanks for the compliment.

I have to say, I still hear Lyle's version in my head when I'm playing this song. I've tried not to copy it too much, though.
You just bought a Gretsch and you set it down long enough to go online???
Jealous. That's what I am.

Hey,
I was looking at getting a JF30 because I have played a JF48 and thought it was fantastic. Any opinions you would like to say about the guitar?
P.S. great cover!

Thanks for the P.S.

I'm too verbose: More comments in following post.

I should clarify:
When I said it had an arched back with no bracing, I meant that because of the arched back, there's no BACK BRACING. It's just smooth inside.
(Makes it easy to get your pick out when you drop it in. *smirk*)
I think they also made a version (possibly called the JF30X) that had a conventional X-brace inside and a flat back, but I may be mistaken on this.
The top is, of course, braced.
Best of luck with whatever guitar you decide to purchase.

Great version of a great song.
whats the chord you play after the G then walk down to. Is it Em?? then to C??
Cheers

It keeps telling me my reply is too long, so I'll post it in parts.
CampfireCowboy 3 years ago
After the G, move the bass note down one (and don't play the A string):
EADGBE
2X0033
CampfireCowboy 3 years ago
Then, a kind of E minor 9 or sus 2 kind of thing:
EADGBE
024000
Then all that C and D stuff.
(Does this mean we can expect to see your cover of this song sometime?)
Happy pickin'!

HA HA mate. My singin' scares the local feral cats!!
Thanks for the chords. Got it worked out now.
Cheers

Beautiful. What a great performance. Just one man and a guitar. Thanks m8.

Thank you.
It's a mark of Lyle's good writing that the song works so well stripped-down like this.
(Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not accepting your compliment.)

Glad you liked it.
I only saw Lyle perform once, in a show at Ontario Place, along with Mary Chapin Carpenter and John Prine. They're all amazing.
