That last confrontation was pretty dark, and brutal.

The reboot wasn't needed because these fillms had humour, and were very hollywood in their scale; but also had that dark, edgy, element to them. Batman was rebooted with a much more darker tone, but the original spidy trilogy already had that.

So when he did get his ass kicked, he was actually faking Gobbie out. Hence the beating he gave Gobbie later on.

Most of the stunts are practical, and they actually filmed a guy swinging through the city, so when he's web swinging, he's ACTUALLY web swinging.
