  • i would love to hear the actual audio from this session, i think any time different arts can come together in an honest and respectful way such as this true growth and progress is the result. takes an open mind to learn, that's cliche' but true. i got cracked in the face by a yellow belt teenage student once, great lesson! much respect, plan to check out all your videos. best wishes..

  • not to be rasest but do you somtimes get hated on for being white by the japanies i want to move to japan and train in a dojo to but thats just a dream.

  • some nice counters thanks

  • probably you already studied the problem, however we saw that in standing joint manipulation is very simple for the other hit with low knees

  • @RawCombatJapan Well said : )

@ everyone else: If you're wanting lots of tari and flower then maybe a traditional style is for you(until you spend twenty years or so deciphering what it really means). However, if you want something that works then maybe you should spend more time training with a teacher like Luke who does the deciphering for you.

Keep it up Luke as there are traditionalists here who love what you're doing.

    Take it easy

  • love the video minus the rap.

  • silat has origin in malaysia, brunei, indonesia, and even thailand, just different country has different styles.

  • pencak silat is from indonesia, not malaysia,

  • its not from indonesia its from both country but different with styles

  • @azxasin yes your right.. but it was first created in Sumatera, Kalimantan, and Java..

  • Well yous just get over it!

    Who the fuck cares!

  • i wanna give a 5 stars rating but rating disabled..

  • for sure silat ..silat from indonesia and malaysia .. both nusantara country ..

  • dont get me wrong im a silat athlete my self...

but 2 guys in the back should go get a room

  • I dont care I agree!

One of them is fucking weird and one of them came as a spy from another school.. so I told them to piss off over in the corner and work ground knife defence. I didnt teach them shit. They soon got the hint!

  • Very interesting movement, flowing with the opponent's energy for sure.

  • good one, i luv it! its all bout the angles baby..

  • good exchange! silat guy was relying on angles and principles as oppose to the other guy mostly on techniques...good clip!

  • GREAT example of how trapping style hand and arm locks for entry into grappling as taught by many styles of technique-based martial arts are totally useless against good basic grappling FUNDAMENTALS.

  • im a silat madz

  • almost all silat originated from area of Indonesia like sumatera n west java... but there also many silat originated in Malaysia.....

  • silat is more to supernatural ..

there is something mystery about it..

people who was master in silat really know the secret..actually my grandfather is a silat master..sometimes when people perfom silat, they can be possesed and really like something has help them..they even can't be hurt that time even to shut...

  • Silat is spiritual because our ancestors used to practice Shamanism and Animism, hence the creation of Silat. As Silat is basically, to mimic the movements of certain animals, which our ancestors believed to have "souls".

  • WHO CARES, I GOT A GUN..

  • silat from malay and java.

  • i'm from malaysia.penchak silat from indonesia and silat from malaysia. although the origin is unknown it maybe came from sumatera (srivijaya dynasty) if i not wrong, srivijaya dynasty(sumatera island) created silat to protect from majapahit dynasty(java island) and malay people immigrate to malaysia and perfected the silat. indonesian people perfected penchak silat

  • u damn right, the origin of silat from sumatera..

Not Malay, not singapore, Not even java..

  • y fatehr wanted me to go on Penchak but chose for Aikido eventually, i asume they are both good but its depends on ure technique not?

  • pentjak silat is indonesian martial arts originated from java island. this martial art history about 1000 years old. coming from majapahit /srivijaya dynasty.

Dan inosanto the best bruce lee's student also learn this art.

  • Hey partner, mind doing some real (as in full contact) friendly match with a Karateka or Taekwondoin?

I think that'll show how good silat is, compared to those more popular arts. I'm not flaming, 'right. Peace.

  • Yeah we'll see... You might enjoy the knife fighting simulation training on my other account.. There are Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, TKD, Kickboxing, Kapap guys you name it!

  • TKD and Karate don't stand up seconds against pure Silat (which this isn't here to be fair, but still). Compare Luke's basic knife fighting stuff to the point scoring mentality of these sport arts and there isn't a comparison.

Many systems of Silat alive today have been subject to natural selection and are only here because they've had to kill to do so. The shit systems died with their teachers. The same has never been true in Karate and TKD

  • I forgot to say, Nice vids.. Love it.

  • silat & aikido are cool

    lil wayne ain't

    xP

  • Whats lil wayne got to do with anything??

This is Tpain & Kanye West... What aint cool is your name!

  • ow sorry bro.. i thought is was wayne

me name means nothin, just randomed xP

    anyway, your good fighter

  • Just to let you know Malaysia & Indonesia are considered Muslim countries and yes ALOT of my friends are Muslim, I also have alot of Hindu, Buddhist & Daoist friends amoung others.. Im hoping this is going to be an issue for you..

  • ....& brother raw, can i change my name here in yt?im tired of this name, cos its all about anger 5-7 yers ago ...& my ego too.

  • silat is 1 of the best self defence in the world, 1 have seen a 60kg guy beat a 150 kg guy in just a few seconds, now that is what did we call awsome...

  • Silat was mainly practiced by muslims in eastern parts of Asia it doesnt belong to one nation.

  • I belive Silat was originally from Malaysia, obviously techniques and things spred around, esspecially among allys and even more so enemys. It makes sense that it it used in all thoughs areas. Like Kung fu spred and techniques of Kung fu can be found in every single asian fighting art. Or to me more streight forward, everyone in the world uses guns, China first found gun powder, but the idea soon spred across the whole world.

  • @GuamKomudo i dont unserstand why people still arguing about this. both sides has a penchak silat it self but with different styles. understand?

  • silat is malay nation art of self defend from malaysia, indonesian, singapore and brunei.....

  • right on brother...hidup SILATTTTTT UTK BANGSA

  • Excellent.

  • where the origin country of silat

  • Seriously,SIlats principles are very fimiliar with others of different styles.

  • the silat cacthes look better than aikido/judo especially at the legs. u got a good skill, man

  • where is the silat techniques?i dont see it

  • This is why I hate the word 'Technique' thats all people look at these days. I have a small yet diverse background in the Japanese arts and my manager, the guy with me (obviously Japanese) has alot of experience. I was simply sharing with him the Silat way. One of things about real Silat is - You are comfortable in any situation/environment. It is not technique based when you get into it. It is approach based. I dont think you've seen much silat..

  • It is not technique based when you get into it. It is approach based. >>> Great explanation! Thank You.

  • Interesting video and even more interesting theory...

  • seeing this video made me want to ask , is this was steven segal does in his movies ??

  • Steven Segal, yes uses Aikido.. I myself do not consider myself skilled in Aikido but learnt quite a few basic throws and 'techniques' so we simple used that, Judo & a couple of Jujitsu things (from my experience here in Japan) to have a bit of a play with :)

  • ok i will definately continue watching you videos and commenting as need be .

also i was wondering have you ever studied wing chun and whats your opinion of it ?

  • I have studied wing chun but all I CAN say is, if I thought it had any place for Me in the real world and point in training I'd still be doing it. that's just me, I do know people who can use it... At the end of the day I dont see it to be a big man's art (which I know many will argue and preach their scentific theory bullshit...Im just over it to be honest).

  • well im looking into getting into some form or self defense when i move to j land next year , so i guess i can get with you when i arrive and talk about training .

  • Hy sir. Have you tried arnis or kali? Ive been practicing it for months now, But im really interested in silat as well, because of its deceptive movements

  • I was introduced to Kali Escrima & Arnis just before I started high school. I was very intrigued by it but once I found silat I decided what I would stick with ;-)

  • nice vid tnx =)

  • very interesting video i trained in judo for 12 years and silat for only two i found it too hard to combine a lot of techniques, except when in combat as for the aikido I think that seems to blend very well from what i can see with silat.
