Tax breaks? Oh, those must be the new hefty tax increases to come January 1st. Small businesses wouldn't need easier access to credit if you weren't taking 40% of their profits in taxes, Mr. President. But then, having a cabinet with virtually no business acumen whatsoever, you can be expected to make some absolutely baffling and nonsensical moves when it comes to corporations and job creators in this country. Because those huge projects you speak of as I've said before only helped the larger more fit and powerful while the small business which makes up, or did at one time make up over 70% of Americas tax paying base gets left behind. @helicopterscantdance I have looked at it. Maybe you should. The funding for NCLB comes from state and local funds, not federal. Drop out rates decreased after 2002 at dramatic levels. 4th and 8th grade math improved by 75%. More minorities had higher test scores than in our history. The law increased instructional time for reading and math. It also led to increases in teacher-reported measures of student engagement. That alone cut the drop out rate dramatically.

So, there are a lot of intelligent folks on both sides of this issue. Obama and his administration are not going to work out, too much change too fast for this country.

A TRUE economy is not driven by Credit and Consupmtion (which is what the tax break to the "lower class" will do - consume) ... a TRUE economy is driven by savings being reallocated (as Credit to another individual) to PRODUCE.

You are partially there in your analysis, you are correct in saying "You can't make money out of air"...but, then you revert to believing that we need MORE Credit to solve our problems (Cedit of which today is pulled out of thin air).
The "More Credit" and "easier access to this credit" mentality is WHY we are where we are today.
If the Government were to not cause inflation, prices would remain stagnant...
To top it off, if the Government would stop illegally legislating and regulating private business' - the prices would go down b/c the American economy would once again be driven by competetion where you have failures and winners, and the winners are not punsihed by more taxes and more regulation.
If you take a look at our Government spending of GDP chart from Constitution til now...you will see that up until the early 1900's - the Government spent at no higher than 4-5% of the GDP (minus the Civil War)...
Then, after the Federal Reserve was enacted (illegally i might add) in 1913 - the spending steadily rose to a point where we are no at +25%...wanna know what happened as the government spending rose?...the Dollar lost value causing prices to rise as well
Wanna know what else happend as the government increased its share of the GDP?...Production and Manufacturing jobs moved overseas due primarily to increased research, operating, maintenance and labor cost at the hands of Federal Government regulations...as the Production moved overseas, Americans became a nation of Consumers (rather than Producers) --- Seeing as no wealth was being created here, savings were being depleted...but, everyone still wanted to consume on Credit
Governments increase in spending removes vital wealth from the actual economy which could be used to 1) directly used Capital and Production/Manufacturing or 2) be stored as savings backing the Credit issued...but, with taxes consuming a mass portion of the wealth - savings is almost impossible to accumulate while still trying to Produce and Manufacture goods...thus, your credit severly exceeds your savings in the economy ... this cannot happen or else bubbles emerge.

I cannot profess to be an economics expert like many here seem to be but I will believe all of it when the telephone begins to ring again and my employees are back to work. Sparky you are obviously an intelligent individual and make some great points but my better judgement and business sense are more aligned with what helltracker is getting at,. I dont see Obamanomics as sustainable.
It all boils down to Savings and Production...if we as America can Produce the necessary items that our Country needs to thrive here uninhibited by government regulations and monetary manipulation, all will be relatively well with virtually no bubbles...
Bubbles will not exist as Credit cannot be lent out without the adequate savings; and when savings are low (like now) the interest rate on these savings will be relatively high to keep a balance.
Keeping interest rates low and opening the gates to more, unbacked Credit only leads to more bubbles...seeing as the majority of this Credit is NOT being used to create or promote production and manufacturing, but rather to keep "consumption" business' in operation...the only reason America can survive right now is the fact that EVERY currency in the world is tied to our Dollar, should this change...the Dollar would collapse.
@helltrackrider You probably did not see my earlier posts from a few days prior but my small insignificant business paid an annual average of 20 thousand dollars, my 3 employees who had full time lucrative wotk, atleast during our const season collectively paid in equal to that on their own. For my 3rd consecutive year there will be not one cent paid by my company and employees have been laid off since 2 months after Obama took office for lack of work. 40k a year gone, thats just from me & mine.

Well, I'm a business owner..for over 30 years. In my personal experience, the GOP is becoming a nightmare, and Dem polices are better for me, my business ,and my family. I'll give specifics:
-Tax breaks for offshore production kill jobs here.. and I have a very hard time competing with Chinese slave labor. The Dems are trying to close those loop holes..the GOP wants to keep them.
A change in the threshold for AMT & a new deduction for college tuition, saved me $3K on my 2009 taxes. Dems did that.
- I will get a 35% tax break for health insurance for my guys. Dems did that.
- The GOP filibustered interest rate caps on credit cards that Dems proposed.The result..credit cards got jacked by 7-12%. It had a direct effect on my sales.
- The GOP fought for months, the Obama plan for new credit lines for small business.
@givethemahand I can relate to a lot of that obviously. My trade is all local and the only real bad thing that happens to my demographic are illegal aliens coming and working for less. Even more than that its the willingness of Joe American contractor/ small business man to break those laws and do such a thing regardless of law. You and I definately have a lot in common but with 10 years Iam still green. Under this admin I may not be in existence in another 3 years at this rate, cant support it.

Because those huge projects you speak of as I've said before only helped the larger more fit and powerful while the small business which makes up, or did at one time make up over 70% of Americas tax paying base gets left behind. In the construction industry, other than bridges and road projects this does nothing for the small businesses that make this country go.
I can hang by myself for another few years and see this through. But too bad for the guys who need to work I guess. I quit caring now

To keep the ball rolling, we need to pass comprehensive energy legislation, education bill, increasing the school year by 28 days, and immigration reform!!!! Mr. President, if all Democrats will work together, we can get all of these bills passed during the Lame Duck Session, before the repubs beging office!!!! @helicopterscantdance I have looked at it. Maybe you should. The funding for NCLB comes from state and local funds, not federal. Drop out rates decreased after 2002 at dramatic levels. 4th and 8th grade math improved by 75%. More minorities had higher test scores than in our history. The law increased instructional time for reading and math. It also led to increases in teacher-reported measures of student engagement. That alone cut the drop out rate dramatically.

So, there are a lot of intelligent folks on both sides of this issue. Obama and his administration are not going to work out, too much change too fast for this country.
I do hope it all comes together somehow because this has me at odds with a lot of decent people who mean well but have adversely affected my life and business which rolls downhill to my kids eventually, and that I just wont have.

If the Government were to not cause inflation, prices would remain stagnant...

If you take a look at our Government spending of GDP chart from Constitution til now...you will see that up until the early 1900's - the Government spent at no higher than 4-5% of the GDP (minus the Civil War)...
Then, after the Federal Reserve was enacted (illegally i might add) in 1913 - the spending steadily rose to a point where we are no at +25%...wanna know what happened as the government spending rose?...the Dollar lost value causing prices to rise as well

Wanna know what else happend as the government increased its share of the GDP?...Production and Manufacturing jobs moved overseas due primarily to increased research, operating, maintenance and labor cost at the hands of Federal Government regulations...as the Production moved overseas, Americans became a nation of Consumers (rather than Producers) --- Seeing as no wealth was being created here, savings were being depleted...but, everyone still wanted to consume on Credit

Governments increase in spending removes vital wealth from the actual economy which could be used to 1) directly used Capital and Production/Manufacturing or 2) be stored as savings backing the Credit issued...but, with taxes consuming a mass portion of the wealth - savings is almost impossible to accumulate while still trying to Produce and Manufacture goods...thus, your credit severly exceeds your savings in the economy ... this cannot happen or else bubbles emerge.

It all boils down to Savings and Production...if we as America can Produce the necessary items that our Country needs to thrive here uninhibited by government regulations and monetary manipulation, all will be relatively well with virtually no bubbles...
Bubbles will not exist as Credit cannot be lent out without the adequate savings; and when savings are low (like now) the interest rate on these savings will be relatively high to keep a balance.

Keeping interest rates low and opening the gates to more, unbacked Credit only leads to more bubbles...seeing as the majority of this Credit is NOT being used to create or promote production and manufacturing, but rather to keep "consumption" business' in operation...the only reason America can survive right now is the fact that EVERY currency in the world is tied to our Dollar, should this change...the Dollar would collapse.

@helltrackrider You probably did not see my earlier posts from a few days prior but my small insignificant business paid an annual average of 20 thousand dollars, my 3 employees who had full time lucrative wotk, atleast during our const season collectively paid in equal to that on their own. For my 3rd consecutive year there will be not one cent paid by my company and employees have been laid off since 2 months after Obama took office for lack of work. 40k a year gone, thats just from me & mine.

Well, I'm a business owner..for over 30 years. In my personal experience, the GOP is becoming a nightmare, and Dem polices are better for me, my business ,and my family. I'll give specifics:
-Tax breaks for offshore production kill jobs here.. and I have a very hard time competing with Chinese slave labor. The Dems are trying to close those loop holes..the GOP wants to keep them.

A change in the threshold for AMT & a new deduction for college tuition, saved me $3K on my 2009 taxes. Dems did that.
- I will get a 35% tax break for health insurance for my guys. Dems did that.
- The GOP filibustered interest rate caps on credit cards that Dems proposed.The result..credit cards got jacked by 7-12%. It had a direct effect on my sales.
- The GOP fought for months, the Obama plan for new credit lines for small business.

Even more than that its the willingness of Joe American contractor/ small business man to break those laws and do such a thing regardless of law. You and I definately have a lot in common but with 10 years Iam still green. Under this admin I may not be in existence in another 3 years at this rate, cant support it.

@Techra I've been on this rock and in business for some time now and I do know what the previous admin did for my business, it flourished and my employees had food on the table. You peeople have demanded that they all step down while this president wastes money on your idealism emergency style even though we were going broke as a nation. This pres is for large corps period. The state of small biz will not change until the economy improves, this year will be the 3rd year of no taxes from my llc.

How many Government Jobs have been lost in the last two years in total? I talk to developers and know atleast one who will not spend another investment dime until this country is taken back from the idealist college kids.

They are doing this because they can because there are no protections in the free market and because they are scared that thier payday is going to come to an end... I make less then 30K a year and have to pay 6k for my child to have insurance & my employer pays 60% on top of what I pay and she could be dropped from at anytime for anything... I'm glad she can actually have what I paid for
