I met Waldemar Kobus once, this guy who plays Günther Franken, the "evil" ss Obersturmführer in this movie. We had a few drinks and some funny conversations at a party 2 years ago. He is such a nice fellow and great actor !

An impressive movie. While it was because of the agreed-upon stipulation of the German surrender to the Canadian Army in Holland that the character of German officer Ludwig Müntze (actor Sebastian Koch) was executed, that surrender probably saved many Dutch, Canadian and other Allied lives. By then, more than 100,000 Dutch had died and 7,600 Canadian soldiers - so it was a stipulation that was a terrible but important factor.

Aw, I feel a bit bad for the German that they can't hear Carice herself speak German :') I know they dub almost everything in German, but dubbing a movie that's already 50% in their own language... It's not like they couldn't use subtitles, it's not a kids movie!

BTW, does anybody know if they also dubbed the songs Carice sang for the OST?

And to comment on the movie; I've seen it about 8 times and I think it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. Love it <3

Ik denk dat beide methodes voordelen hebben.

Volgens mij is het Engels ondertussen toch wel geaccepteerd als algemene internationale taal waarmee je je in vreemde landen verstaanbaar kunt maken, maar dat is voor een groot deel van de Duitsers blijkbaar nog moeilijk te verkroppen. (Ik zeg niet dat we blij moeten zijn met hoe de Engelse taal het geschopt heeft tot algemene internationale taal, maar zo staan de zaken er nu eenmaal voor)

Hier staat echter wel tegenover dat de ander moeite moet doen om deze taal te kunnen verstaan en ook weer in deze taal terug te kunnen spreken.

De meeste Engelse en Franse toeristen hebben helemaal geen interesse in welke vreemde taal dan ook. En *die* neemt het niemand in NL kwalijk dat ze hun eigen taal gebruiken. Wordt alleen Duitsers kwalijk genomen (maar lang niet door alle NLers!).

Veel Duitsers gebruiken hun taal in NL omdat ze weten dat veel NLers die taal beheersen. Als je met een toerist geen Dts wilt of kunt praten, zeg gewoon: Speak English or Dutch or we cant talk probleem opgelost. Maar maak er geen ideologie van.

If they want to translate with a comedy or any other movie thats their own decision, but I think if it is a movie with german and dutch in it, you should translate... it's the same as die zweilung, they kept that movie partly dutch and partly german.... that way it makes much more sense... In the Netherlands this movie is partly dutch and partly german too... to make it trueful

Verhoeven did Basic Instinct,Total Recall amongst others .He is known for great screenwriting. Edge of your seat, don't know who to trust, what to expect.

This was a very good movie. In the end to see this "quaint" woman sitting beside a still river - with all that PAST - is what I think was what gave me such a head-full well after the movie was over. Here's to all the women with unknown secrets as such making brave moves and playing survival chess among the wargames of men.
