I personally dont feel the belts signify your skill level in the martial arts, only your dedication and time spent in that art.

About a year ago I had 2 years experience in Bruce Lee's JKD and was not belted. When put against a 2nd degree black belt in ninjitsu who had only 2 and a half years experience I choked him out within 2 minutes.
