HI there, thanks so much for posting this vid; our son has Asperger's syndrome, and we always are scaring about his future or the life that he will have to faced in the years coming. It is a relief to know that there's a light at the end of the tunnel !
@Yucaterco2008 there is i know it ... cause i have it as well ...and im sure he will be smart ..but if theres enything i learned family needs to always be there and try to be positive...
the worst thing about having aspergers in my opinion is when people dont understand you or they think youre just using aspergers as an excuse, my AS is quite mild and not noticable most of the time so people (even my family) think im just taking advantage of the aspergers tag when it suits me
@bigmanoooo1 i have it aswell and . and it shows but i took in consideration why should i care im loud outgoing and in ur face so why should it bother me that im a lil diferent.
@wildwitch00 why? just because we dont understand emotions doesnt mean we dont feel them so if its because of love im sure he does...if u rly have a problem id like to help if i can.
Holding down a job is absolutely NOT about intelligence or education! The two best hopes are choosing the right job & having family &/or counselors to coach through 'life skills.' There will always be "odd" behaviors, but some things can be learned & compensated for. Fast food is usually a BIG mistake! Just not a good match.
Read the book "Look Me in the Eye" by John Elder Robison. I just saw used ones on Amazon for under $5! Hopefully his experience can save you a decade of how to fit in.
I have aspergers and because of it i have an iq of 124. it's not my ignorance that gets me out of success. it's the ignorance of others, like my proffessor who failed me because she "loves to watch my kind squirm"
People are treating this like such a horrible thing. But it's only because they focus on the obvious bad stuff. Almost as though the advantages can't compare to the bad stuff.
Seal yourself with holy spirit! Be holy, Root out your eyes for causing you to watch violence and pornography, cut away your sexual organs that lead you to adultery, sodomy, fornication, masturbation etc. Drink muriatic acid for smoking, abusing alcohol and drugs. Slit your throat for bowing to idols such as flag and crucifix. Do not attend church meetings, end Christendoom, restore Christian unity [Christianity], no church, no division!
Shoot, IQ ? Why in the world base everything on IQ? Come on people. Not everything is about what you know. I had a 100 IQ when I was 16. Now 34, I was 117 about 2 years ago. That is way over 70.
That is just crazy to base it on IQ. Think of the millions of people like me in thier 30's that do not have tons and tons of money to fight the system. (I;m not even working - have not been for 2 years). I can kiss a diagnosis away until I have KIDS!
I'm not sure if it really should be the government's responsibility to give money to people who have social anxiety. Shouldn't that be the job of society and the community to support them? I'm sure that everybody can find a way, including people with Asperger's, to live their lives in a way that compliments their state of being.
How dare you try to hide it! I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when I was 13 years old. It's not something to be ashamed of. Quite frankly it's something to be very proud of. Yes I've had a lot of shit in my life due to it but you know what? That's because the world will never understand us.
I agree too! All of my 'hyper' tallents are because of my oddness! Although it was a real struggle in the past I am fine now that people think that I am weird, and because of that I have started to really appreciate the things that I can do that others can't. Would never change it for the world!
When I was 7 or 8 years old I would sit in the class in a period when the teacher had left the room temporarily, and listen to everyone else speaking. All I thought of was the act of speaking itself. It felt like it was beneath me. "Man, people talk a lot." I would sit alone in silence, and feel smug. Now that I'm older and smarter, I don't get that smug feeling, but I do still feel special in that I have my own original thoughts and opinions on nearly everything.
Asperger's isn't being antisocial, friendless & lazy.

Haha- I relate so well to what you have just said as well! I have been fired from every fastfood job I've ever had.
My parents don't bother with me so I have been homeless, etc. at times.
People who say "well we are all different" or other such platitudes should face facts: they (non-Asperger's) get the jobs that we (Asperger's)are sometimes more qualified for intellectually, on primarily social grounds (networking, connections,etc.).
sorry about your family not bothering - mine care but have been so ignorant that instead of helping me they made me suffer. Now that they have realized the damage they caused they offer me money as a comfort. I can forgive but I can't forget. I have also severe auditory sensitivities and also extremely photosensitive - I can have epileptic crises with flashing lights. I was also misdiagnosed as manic depressive and given heavy anit-psychotic drugs that left me with neurological problems
I believe I have a mild form of this...my son for sure has been diagnosed with it from kansas university medical center. I was tortured in school...pushed into lockers, belittled, bullied, but I grew up and learned from it all, and hold a steady job. I feel I can understand my son more than a NT parent, and I even help his therapists understand what he is trying to say to them at times. I think I can make his life better by being so sensitive, and then he can have more chances to succeed.
I only have a problem with the "Suffers" Part. I have it and I deal with it but I never think of it as suffering. That implies that I have a problem that needs a cure. I am just different and there is plenty of positive things that I can do that NT's have problems with. But good for you Ryan! I wish I could get services I cannot keep a job either. IQ of 135
It takes more than intelligence to hold down a job. Aspergers people often have issues with routines, especially routines they have to follow that aren't their own. Also there are factors such as social communication issues and a general preference to work in isolation from others.
C'mon, it's much more complicated than that. One of the main differences is social communication. I don't gossip or chit-chat. Most people do. Believe me, all my life I've felt in a minority in that respect. It's affected my relationships with co-workers, friends, family, studying, everything. Why don't you do some proper research, or at least Wiki it.
my daughter has aspergers, she is a straight A student, however I could never imagine her holding a job where she had to deal with other people , it is a disability even when they have high iq's
@nagaempress I'm disabled. I'd like to get off of it though. I'm working on going to school etc. I.Q 158, high school drop out. You don't have to be stupid to get SSI. There are other ways. I'm physicaly disabled but, the AS is part of why i'm ON disability. There are many forms of disability and prequisits for each. Do some research, get a lawyer and apply.
@nagaempress i can't get or keep a job but, i'm also physicaly disabled. IQ:158 and a 9th grade drop out. you also don't need a low IQ to get help. you have to be disabled not mentaly disabled....that's the only issue i have with this video. he just didn't apply for the right TYPE of assistance. I'm physicaly disabled and obviously socialy impaired and i got denied my first round because they thought i was applying for mental disability and tested me. you have to be clear on what and why in app.
@nagaempress but can u feel...and when u talk do ppl look at u like ur speaking gibberish. i agree it isnt suffering lol the suffering part is being tested for it. but u got to admit it sometimes is a problem.
@MarionettaMyra I OVER feel. I am driven by my emotions like a race car. If I feel like someone is mad at me or displeased I can fold really easy. People look at me like I am a "know it all" most of the time. I know a lot of little details about a lot of things. Yes it can be a problem but nothing life suffering. To me suffering is something to be stopped. I read people in social situations and use it as my "alarm bells" Since smaller things set me off about people that might not bug others.
I wouldnt want to be any different either, i also cant keep a job, i continually get bullied by either the workers or the employer, my life occupation is an artist but i still need to pay the bills its a nightmare my resume looks like shit & i have no solid references so its just a downward spiral, ive continually on the edge of homelessness & most people just dont understand, they just want ou to be NORMAL, but what the fuk is normal anyway, confront normality i say !
@nagaempress haha now im confused, all of you people say that you get teased and ridiculed, and you said you cant keep a job. So you want people to feel bad for you, but at the same time you say that there is nothing to suffer through. You need to get over yourself. So your socially awkward, some people are. Everyone is different. And why dose it matter if you have an IQ of 135? I would think someone who feels that they are so different would prefer the multiple intelligences theory.
@punkrastagirl96 There is no "All of you people" Im sorry if you think we all get teased and ridiculed. I said I could not keep a job .. Well it was because I quit due to trying to deal with idiots in the workplace. i do not need to get over myself as I never said I was suffeing, im still not suffering and I will never be suffering. So I am not the proper person to direct a commnt like this to. As you see I dont give a crap.
@nagaempress your so smart, an IQ of 135?! wow thats too cool for me. I'm glad it boosts your self esteam to go around telling people your smarter than them, if thats where you get your entertainment, then keep on going. And if your not suffering, then why do you post comments like that looking for sympathy. Honestly, get over yourself.
@punkrastagirl96 No I posted that "I don't get the suffering part" You see what I wrote there? Do you see the word DONT. that means I DO NOT agree that it is SUFFERING. In other words I dont need sympathy and in my opinion neither does anyone else with it. And I am sooo glad that you watched the video and fully understand the context of my comment have a nice day!
@punkrastagirl96 I don't think that having a high-functioning autistic disorder is suffering either. Aspies really do have a harder time making friends because all they want to talk about is there obssesions. But its not that they can't make friends or don't want to. I'm aspie and I have friends and can hold a job.
Great video, dude. I, too, have Asperger's Syndrome, and social settings can be very harsh for me, and if I am surrounded by very loud sounds, I can feel uncomfortable, and freeze as well.
Ryan you are a cutie. I have AS too and as you know it can be much suffering and loneliness..keep up the good work. I am too smart as well IQ = 120 I guess if you're smart and look "normal" you cannot be suffering, eh??
You guys with AS are fine.......... we are all suffering one way or another and the way I see it is what is normal any way?? My son is 7 and he has AS, I am looking forward to his bright future with our support =)
Wow, I actually been workin' w/him over the last year or so doing various speaking engagements together. You guys really oughta take a look at his artwork. It's not just good, it's quite spectacular.
Not to mention he's a fun and nice guy to be around and I encourage anyone who gets a chance to see him at an Autism or Asperger's convention to talk with him.
I'm an artist, but I didn't make any friends in art school. It was hard, because I really wanted to be part of that group. They probably wanted me to be their friend, but I had no idea what I was supposed to do.
My relationship with my parents was tough. They couldn't accept me as I was and were disappointed in me for my lack of social life.
This is a great post, because it is one of the rare news stories showing someone with Aspergers who appears and acts outwardly normal. Too often documentaries about aspergers feature more severe outward cases, because it's dramatic, therefore more "newsworthy." Many of us with AS are adults like this guy, who were diagnosed as adults, because that's how subtle it can be sometimes.
I love when the reporter says "they fought like HELL" - you'd never that on the news in the US! Funny...

@nagaempress get a fucking life, oh right you can't, cus some doctor told you you can't make friends and u believed him.

@punkrastagirl96 I don't think that having a high-functioning autistic disorder is suffering either. Aspies really do have a harder time making friends because all they want to talk about is there obssesions. But its not that they can't make friends or don't want to. I'm aspie and I have friends and can hold a job.

MANY MANY MANY people are MISDIAGNOSED as well. Over-using this label is doing a disservice for many.

I'm not sick. I wonder how I would appear on video if someone did a story on me? Normal or awkward?

depends entirely on how the editor wanted to portray you

This is a great post, because it is one of the rare news stories showing someone with Aspergers who appears and acts outwardly normal. Too often documentaries about aspergers feature more severe outward cases, because it's dramatic, therefore more "newsworthy." Many of us with AS are adults like this guy, who were diagnosed as adults, because that's how subtle it can be sometimes.
I love when the reporter says "they fought like HELL" - you'd never that on the news in the US! Funny...
