  • I hate playing the contra alto. I like the bass better.

  • Im 13, I play alto, Bari, and soprano sax(also tenor). Plus bassoon and piano. In starting Contra Alto Clarinet in about a week. I'm so excited!

  • bassclarinets are soo freaking awesomeee(:

  • I played one of these in high school. I miss it.

  • Sounds nice to me. Nice and low. Does it require lots of wind to do long notes?

I'm just starting saxophone; been playing guitar all my life, kinda got tired of it.

  • Is that from the essential elements book?

  • Im getting a Contrabass naming him B.A.R.I (Big Ass Ridiculous Instrument)

  • My contrabass clarinet is named Phil ; ) luv u Phil!!

  • Next year this is happening to me. :D I"M JUST A LITTLE BIT EXCITED!!! :D

  • I'm 13 play bass clarinet I see that in my future.

  • Hooray for people who play Everything from Standard Bb all the way down to Contrabass.... :D

Personally, I like the Contrabass and Bass clarinets best. :o

  • Hey I think that its really cool that you just starting playing this and you can already do that:)

  • lol jk mellophone 4lyfe

    3w.diegoriedeemann.cl

  • Boo cobtra alto! Go contra BASS!!! :D you were good by the way :)

  • I miss playing my contra so much T.T Mine's name was Alexandria, and it was the best functioning instrument in the whole school. Most of the school's instruments were in some state of disrepair, but I guess because people forgot we owned a contra alto until I found it, it stayed in pristine shape. You know how most clarinets (of all pitches) have those crappy sounding upper notes? Alex played them beautifully. Sadly I am graduated now, but I've contemplated trying to convince them to sell it, :)

  • great job i play contra alto too

  • I play contra alto too... it's awesome isn't it?

  • nice. I play bass clarinet. i wished my school had contrabass and contra alto instruments. thatd be epic

  • is the contrabass fingerings just like ther Bb and the bass clarinet

  • @ahnisea Its diffrent its more like the Eflat clarinet so the fingerings is different, you will notice if you are told to play scales but its really easy went from Bflat Bass Clarinet to Contra Alto clarinet...Its super fun and Im like the Big daddy of all the clarinets lol

  • Hey you played some parts too slow and your articulation could still use some work but like you said you got the whole year but you have pretty eyes.

  • Sax

  • parabéns minha linda muito bem executado

  • parabéns minha linda muito bem executado

  • That's awesome! I play that kind of clarinet too! Mine's name is Octavius and he's the most beast member of the band! Our bass line (me, two tubas, two baritones, and two trombones) isn't the best in the world, so in other words...it's me all by my self! Keep rockin out on that thing!

  • omg! that's my solo for a contest and it's on that instrument to!

  • That's good!! I also play the contra bass clarinet:) I love it so much!!

  • YES! CONTRA BASS CLARINET FOR THE WIN!!!! have to say I'm jealous. I'm the only 2nd clarinet in my band that hasn't played bass yet so I'm jealous

  • its nice

  • arnt bass clarinet simler to regular clarinets

  • Bravo!

  • Are the fingerings for clarinet/bass clarinet the same for a contrabass?

  • @IceClanWarrior Hey, the fingers are the same!! The scales are different:)

  • @horselove1396 thanks! ;D

  • @IceClanWarrior Yes.

  • 1:13 to get to the playing

  • Arlo? how'ed you come up with that?!

  • I play the Guitar , Trombone

  • As a performance major, one of the worst things you can do is down yourself before you perform. It sets yourself up for failure.

  • Is it a Contra Alto or Contra Bass?!

So much conflicting information between the title and the description alone!

  • @BlackAcidEvil15 thats what I was wondering

  • i play the bass

  • I play Contra Alto too! I named him Kevin! :) He is VERY big and deep. And also very intresting to march with. :)

  • That actually sounded superb for a contra alto! You're the first student I have heard that hasn't gotten a very airy sound on it!

  • it sounds splendid!

  • omg i love that clarinet.!! i went from Bb clarinet to bass now im on bass lol i loveee my bass to and ive only had it 4 3 day's!!! (its the school's) do u knoow what grade i have to be in to try for that one.?? im in 8th

  • i'm starting this instrument tomorrow:D

  • @Tochiiwanttotochiyou lucky ass mother fucker i envy u

  • I'd love if you found a way to show me some of your music. I play the BBb (Double B flat for those who can't read it) Contrabass clarinet. I loves it cause of how deep it is, and what you played sounded cool.

  • Just to say... That is a Contra-Alto Clarinet. You should be playing in the key of F# and that's how you would know... I have been waiting for my teacher to get the Contra-Bass... Oh well. You're good though...

  • Nice work! Makes me want to pick one up.

  • @hagiwolfe if you think bass clarinet is big look at the contra bassoon or contra bass saxa phone and to Splediforous The Bassoon is better :)

  • Nice video , keep it up :-)!

  • Sounds cool! Thanks for sharing.

  • a girl that plays contra? THIS IS MADNESS

  • @macintosh315 no...THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I played this song for a region's audition on regular Bass Clarinet!

    I don't think my school owns a contra-alto or contra-bass clarinet :(

  • Dang and when I got my Bass Clarinet I thought that was huge but that Contra is amazing!

  • NICE

  • i cried when i hadda return mine. it is a beautiful instrument.

  • i just got that instrament yester day and its hard for me but i thin iim good its hard because i really play flute and picclo

  • i'm playing on of these... unfortunatly, i'm switching from tenor sax to it, and plan on going to district band on it... eh... i'll be ok.

  • That is a contra-alto clarinet, not a contra bass.... Contra-alto is in Eb and the contrabass is in Bb and is much larger.

  • That is a contra-alto clarinet, not a contrabass. There is a difference.

Contra-alto is in Eb, and Contrabass is much larger and in Bb.

  • "its very big" 0.o ohh-ehmm-geezes

    LOL

i cant even liee but her eyes are sexy =D

  • "its very big" 0.o ohh-ehmm-geezes

    LOL

  • ur kinda cute

  • okay soooo I've been playing the contra bass, for a few years now and I'm planing on playing it for Solo and Ensemble. Any Suggestions for Solos? I'm a little stuck.

  • MY band teacher says that for concert band i can try the contra alto and if i like it then i can play it for band sense our contra player moved. but do you have contra alto music or do you use tuba music?

  • You are seriously amazing. Just... you.

  • you remind of my sister, she names everything. Her bike is ferdinand

  • Holy crap ur good!!!!!!!!!!! My bass clarinet is named bob fred Joe Nick Kason Jason micheal Angelo the fith.

  • Haha, my bass clarinets name is swan.

  • haha my bass clarinets name is Swan.

  • my school doesn't own a contra :/

    it makes me sad.

    with our broke ass

  • @bandgeek12694 yeah ours doesnt either... i play bass clarinet and i want to play lower than that very low Eb

  • I like it cause its really big ;) lol too funny but that thing is pretty sweet.

  • I have a countra too!.

i am the only one in the district that can actually play it

  • Thumbs up!

You're adorable, and very, very talented.

  • I played this same thing last year for my Symphony Band. I usually had to play a BariSax part, which was HIGH on a Contra Bass FYI, but anyway, It was fun, but then it got kinda boring.... because you got from Bb Soprano Clarinet to Eb Contra Bass and it's like you're in Beginner band all over again. So i'm going back to normal clarinet this year. xD

  • gata!

  • suflan cur blea ))

  • I'd like to see someone play a Rondo on this

  • LOL you are hilarious xD "I love him, 'cuz he's very big, and he's really, really, low, and he's awesome!" xD I know how you feel, Contra and Bass Clarinets are amazing~ ♥ Awww his name's Arlo? My Bass Clarinet's name is Walter :3 Hehehe, I wish I played Contrabass D: -me jealous- x3 You have a very nice, dark sounding tone for only having been playing for a few weeks, and that was 3 years ago. I can imagine how you are now :3 ((Nice job, once again n.n))

  • @ShadowedHearts My Bass Clarinet's name is Milo (:

  • LOL Arlo is my older brothers name.......

Anyway your actually pretty good =)

  • aah, J.S. Bach and a contrabass... :)

  • Beautiful tone - I really like the sound... it's hard to push so much air through a tube and waggle your fingers at the same time :)

Bach is always tough to play!

  • Your school has a Contra Alto? Lucky! I've been on the bass clarinet for 5 years now, love it this is actually my first time hearing one, you're pretty good.

  • i play clairinet but not this kind of clairinet

  • Keep practicing and you'll get far. Your tone is already quite well, you just need more 'air' if you get what I mean ;)

  • can i ask a question, that is after this one?

um, are the fingerings the same as on a normal Bb clarinet? As in A would be in the same place on both instruments.

    thnx x :)

  • u play really good

  • Your play really nice. Thanks for introducing us to this instrument, never saw one before.

Let me give you a hint: Never say, "I'm not very good," It will be evident to those who can tell the difference and the rest of them won't notice. No need to apologize.

Keep up that work, you will go far!

  • That is really good!!

  • which brand is ur arlo?

  • It is a contra alto, not a contra bass, it's also known as an Eb contra bass, but it really is a contra alto. I have one too.

  • Wait is this a contrabass or a contra alto? Because the title says "Contra alto" but the description says "contrabass"...I'm sooooo confused haha but it was realllyy good. I play bass clarinet.

  • I played this on bari sax and it sounded great, but alot different than this (rhythm wise),

  • Contra Alto sounds so friggin sexified. Great job

  • you're really good.

  • Awesome!!!

  • I Dislike Clarinets But This Is Wonderful! (Flute Player]

  • me too LOL.

  • is it just me or does this sound exactly like the bass clarinet playing this?

  • omg just pointing it out, " his name is arlo, and he's really BIG, and i love him because, he's really big"

  • I laughed too, THANK YOUUU

  • I play the G clarinet, that can play the turkish music

  • yes it is true that bach never used a metronome and i play contra alto the one your playing and i love it to ive played it for about 3 years now i love it

  • It's true that Bach didn't have a metronome...

    ;p

  • I believe that is a contralto, not a contrabass as you stated.

  • the contralto clarinets real name is

    the EEb Contrabass Clarinet

so its a little contrabass clarinet LOL

  • Nice played when considered you are so new on the instrument!

  • I love this song i played this in a quartet on my saprano(regular B flat) clarinet. and this year im playing the bass clarinet. THE low e flat ROCKS.nice playing, plz keep ur fingers closer to the horn

  • I PLAY THAT INSTRUMENT TOO!!!!

  • @1995AnnieAngel I wanna play it, but im stuck with an Alto Clarinet

  • if you keep your fingers closer to the keys it will be easier to get to what ever keys you need.

  • Yeah, i wave at people when i play it is a bad habbit

  • lol i used to do that too! but then my band teacher was like please stop. well anyway good luck with the alto!

  • Acually i play Bb clarinet mainly but i also play bass when we need a part on it.

  • i cant play Bb clarinet to save my life, i stick with my bass lol.

  • of course you love really big and low things hahaha jk jk jk jk

  • i played this song on my Bb clarinet haha it's totally different how it sounds... great job though

  • It sounds good all you need to do is keep the corners of your mouth tighter because then you can get the higher notes a little easier. Also when you takes breaths space them out. The easy way to see where to breath is by practicing.

    Keep practicing ok :)

  • skip to 1:10 to hear music

  • Good Job! I love my contra... I should pull it out and play it this weekend.

  • girl, besides practicing the instrument practice the breathing. it is very important. anyway, nice video.

  • make every 4 measures a phrase (unless specified otherwise) and breath before each phrase and it'll improve your playing. just keep practicing :)

  • Work on your phrasing. It's a little bit off. I liked the song, though. It sounded pretty.

  • what brand is he?

  • what brand is he?

  • Pretty good....I've been playing contrabass clarinet for 5 years now and I think if you where to try standing when you play that would give you more air speed. Which will in turn help the song speak better.

  • Standing up only works for people short enough. Or tall enough. It depends which height you're looking at it from.

  • dude rite on i name my clarinet squidward lol ( really i did no joke )

  • Better than the name my friend Seth came up with for my tenor sax: Fredward McJigginbuggin.

  • Your Contra Bass Clarinet is much prettier then my school borrowed one XD

  • OMG ARLO<3 :D

  • "Never Smile at a Crocodile

  • wow that is like way deeper than the regular bass i play Bb regular clarinet and i didnt know that this even was made.. but good job though!

  • @TheClarinetBoy believe it or not, there are clarinets in existance even lower than this. +_+ ive played this and bass clarinet...i actually found bass much easier....

  • Loveit!

  • you sound pretty good for two or three weeks.

  • i played this on the Bb soprano, is the fingering for contra the same?

it looks so cool i wanna play it now

  • wow that's pretty good...i play Bb Clarinet and the closest thing we have to a contrabass is the bass clarinet...but they never play loud enough..so it's like they're not there...good job it sounded cool

  • Love that rich deep sound! I love bass woodwind instruments. I used to play baritone saxophone myself and would love the chance to see how it feels to play the contrabass clarinet. You have a very nice tone, thanks for posting

  • I just started playing contra bass but that was pretty good

  • I play the regular clarinet, flute aka my favorite and piano

  • @ROCKonMiley02 you play all the same as me!

  • French horn is better

  • does that have the same fingering as a regular clarinet

  • Love your sound. I've been with Max, the contra I'm borrowing from the school, for 3 days. I'm jumping straight from Bb Clar. to Contralto/bass and I'm still adjusting. :) Anyway. Love the vid.

  • my highschool band DESPERATELY needs a contra, and i'm a Bb Clar. and i'm wondering if there is a difference in playing them. like, if you need more air or anything. i'm a FrEsHmAn, and they want somebody who will be around.. thanks :))

  • Yes, they need more air in order to make the rich bass tones. Otherwise it sounds like spaceships are landing. The keys are the same, but it depends on the type of Contra you have. Is it Bb or Eb? Bb Contrabass does not have the trill keys as the Eb Contralto does. Altissimo register is a bit awkward as well, but you shouldn't have to attempt that until College. (If you do, I feel sorry for you.)

  • woo! i play bass clarinet, so I know how you feel how you have to blow ALOT.

i bet that takes even more air than my instrument. u can add me if u want

    :P

  • I don't get it. Everyone says that bass clarinet needs more air, but when I play it, it takes less air than my soprano.

  • thats weird cuz i play it, and it takes more air than a soprano. maybe its just bc i got a new reed

  • I'm getting a harder plastic (Legere) reed so that I can hit the C on the second ledger line above the staff. What I find odd is that I can hit the one above that.

  • wow! i can play an E# on the third ledger line above the staff! that's REALLY good for a bass clarinet.

  • the one with the fingering like low C# or high Ab? I love the really high notes like that. I can play that all the way up to the C an octave above second-ledger-line-C

  • I second that notion.

  • Nice!!!

  • Awesome! I just started playing the clarinet, so I can't really give you any tips, but I enjoyed the video! I just have a question-- Do different kinds of clarinets need different sized reeds? It's not like I need to know, but I was curious. :)

  • um ya the Bb Soprano Clarinet reed(wat u play) is like 2/3 the size of a bass clarinet reed, and in comparison, the contrabass clarinet's reed is like a lot bigger! Hope this helped! :P

  • Awesome lol xD What grade are u in? o.o

  • skills!!!!!!!

  • dang right on!

  • Why are there not more girls like you?

I thought bass clarinet was far out, but you whip out a contrabass!

    Keep playing woodwinds!

  • "I love him because he's really big." lol

  • @dalloyd1256

Yeah! We got that straight!!! ^^

  • contrabass is my favorite clarinet! (it was bass till i got contrabass lol) to bad i can't march with it i play percussion when i march

  • very nice

  • Im just about to start playing the contrabass i think i just got it from my school :]]

  • omgee i play contra 2 nd i love playin it honors band all the way ive played 3 disco songs already whts uhp... i wont be playin anything extra hard.... o yea region band here i come
