I don't understand how this trap door is suppose to work. All the other designs I have seen have the "flap" operating in the opposite direction, which makes sense. The predator tries to enter and the "flap" folds down (closing the opening) and preventing the predator entry. Yours seems to allow the predator to slide right in to your coop. Am I missing something?
Is it really totally 100% ? I just found out my LL owns a BB gun, and while his pigeons aren't flying right now, I am totally out of my mind, knowing, I, myself have lost cats to BB's in the past (not here... rumour has it, by a bad cop). I want to inform him of alternate ways to keep the cats out, or else I have to move, because I, in good conscious, can not and will not, live here knowing he does this !!!
@xFallenAnjelx You are obviously an cat lover, and thats cool, lucky for us in NZ we have strict gun laws, Thank god, you might want to leave a note in his letter box explain the next time a cat disappears , the local falconer may just set his sights on some certain pigeons, it not a threat just an eye for an eye.
...Making the whole world blind...Your trap door solution seems much easier, producing fewer enemies, reducing everyone's stress. A win-win solution, well thought out. You ever think about a career in politics? :) There are deeper lessons to be learned from this. Thanks so much for posting. Bright blesings!
@kssohal I love your vid, looks like your cat is very safe from anything, with his own little minder with wings, your cat (Golda Singh) looks well loved, had many a good feed, COOOOOL pigeon.
Hi dobeblessingsDOTcom, I am impressed with your anti Cat flap... any chance you can send me some ideas on how to put one together ?... All the Cats in my area are starting to treat my house like a Drive-Thru McDonalds, with MC-PIGEON a favourite on the menu !
excellent trapping system you got there! nice birds too!!! i have some white pigeons (2x garden fantails, 1x oriental roller[i think], 3x garden doves and one unknown breed). i'm not 100% sure what breed they are though. i live in scotland by the way!
Yes you are quite rite, if a cat gets in the loft, the dead birdbs will be a many,So I made a new door trap to make sure the cats cant get to the loft, and if you look at my new vid you will see a new trap, it is a very old trap , my grandfather had the same over 100 years ago in Scotland where he also had a big problem with cats an ferrets ,
Hi MYtubeuniversity, thx 4 posting your very good question,, the cat I saw having a shot at a free meal climbed onto the trap and as his, or her front paws touched the front part of the trap the backend of the trap clamped on the cats stomach With its back legs outside, hence the more it moved forward the more pressure the trap pressed on the gut of the cat ,and hence the back legs cannot go forward only retract, a cat will not jump through a gap smaller than its self
that makes tons of sense thank you for replying. I would like to get the measurements and plans for this design I think it will work well with my new coop. I will upload my coop on my bird account and let you see my coop. Thank you
Hi habrisaad thank you for your comment, I have found that even my old birds trap with no problem even on the first time they enter, and never had one bird get out
Fantastic idea! What about foxes? I have foxes, bob cats, racoons, and ringtails where I live

Ooh, a little slow here. Just how would the flap exclude a cat? I can easily visualize my cat blasting right through the gate.

get a plastic hawk thatl keep birds of prey away, soak luxury cat foods in anti freeze and leave out for cats, they love the taste of anti freeze!

The solution I came up with - I assigned a 'BodyGuard Cat' to my pigeon ! ....no cat or eagle are come near this pigeon !
See the video response I posted.
Nice trap door !! .....I'll try and build one too ! ....Thanks.

@MultiCameraman Hi Multicam, its no fun feeding your birds and the local cats too,
Since I posted my cat proof trap, I have built a better one as you can
Install it just about anywhere and with the flip on the dropper part
It allows the birds to come in our out with %99.99 safety, I will be making
one soon for another part of the loft, I will post pics and sizes as I go,
For now look at it, the clip is called, Old fashioned Scottish pigeon trap door.
Cheers Stu.

very nice, It would amazing if the door was built to stay shut, Untill the birds step onto a trigger platform to open the trap, But very very cool,

I like the trap. how exactly did the cat get tangled? It seems as though it could still just dive in the hole. 5 stars
