Why don't you come to Brazil and study more about it? I'm not lying. Come and see the reality? Do you really think it's good to have a parrot as a pet? Well, come and see what they do to them. There are Americans buying...it's cheap to buy one. Then, they say it's bred in the U.S....I've seen it a lot. there are some videos on youtube...you can see what these guys I'm talking about...do to the parrots. if you stop buying...they stop taking them. It's simple.
I can see a lot of American people taking away tons of animals...I live in Brazil and I see what really happens. The thing is...North American people like buying our animals. That's the reason why you have a lot of parrots there. They should live in a tropical country not in a so cold country like yours. ...they need warm weather. You must talk to your American friends about it. STOP BUYing Brazilian, African, etc animals...take care of yours...and leave ours where they need to be...
@Ilhadesconhecida if that is true, it is sad and stupid. frankly I don't know why anyone would go to the effort of capturing wild parrots and illegally smuggling them into America. It costs about $6-800 to purchase a young, hand-fed parrot from one of hundreds of breeders in the country which will have a much sweeter disposition, longer life-span and health guarantee that comes with the purchase. Airfare to Brazil alone will cost you at least $800 round trip. The movie Rio isn't typical.
1) the bird was bred in the U.S. the importation of wild caught parrots became illegal here about 30 years ago. the people who take away your parrots are natives, not people in the U.S.
2) we did not do this to him. this is a parrot rescue and adoption center. it takes in parrots whose owners can no longer care for them and finds them new homes.
