that was so fricking sweet! if you have a chance check out the video i just did with another covering artist on my collaboration channel @InfringementIntended that would be awesome.. thank you _Zachary
@djmertz I can email you the audio. It's not great quality cause it was recorded live, but it's better than what you'd pull from here. Email us at thefluorescentmusic@gmail.com. Thanks!
For a generation that grew up on old school NES, which I am a part of, there is built-in nostalgia and happiness in the sounds you're using. So it's great that you're taking on songs with strong emotions in them because somehow it actually does work really well for me... much more so than hearing a pop song or a dubstep song get 8bitified.
It also helps you both can sing well too. :) Keep up the great work!
It's neat, but I guess I'd feel better if you actually played the music instead of just turning dials and knobs. That's why I LOVE M&S is because they actually play their own music, and while this sounds cool, I just can't get over the fact that it's all done by computers. Makes it seem kinda fake to me. Then again, that could be just me.
@Luminara 1/2 I totally understand your feelings. That's one of the issues I've had to wrestle with, when making this style of music. M&S is incredible. Brilliant musicians, writers, and performers. I guess I view what we do as a different type of art. It's more of a 'creative' based art as opposed to a 'performing' type art. It took me about 15 minutes with my guitar, to figure out to play this song, it's structure is very simple. But then creating different parts and sequencing them all on the
@Luminara 2/2 gameboy took hours. The skill, so to speak, is in the creation, not the performance. Kind of like Beethoven wasn't known for performing...but for "programming" performers. Our goal was for you to "like how it sounds", not be impressed by our performing skills. Also, the only "computer" we used was a gameboy. I do really appreciate your comments, and I hope you won't write us off after this one cover. Please check out our original songs! Thanks for commenting. Interesting subject!
@thefluorescentmusic Oh know, I am not writing you off, and I think it sounds quite neat. I recognize pretty much all of those sounds, lol! Music is music. Maybe if I knew what all goes on behind the creation of it, I could understand it a bit more. You should do a behind the scenes vid or something...just a thought. Maybe to help those of us who aren't all that familiar with this, understand.
@nonchalantgamer And your point is? Maybe this is why I don't like computer generated music much and don't consider DJ's and Britney Spears serious artists.
@Luminara It's called electronic music. As it turns out, there are hundreds of genres of music besides what you listen to on pop radio. As it also turns out, quite a bit of music today is made electronically using these nifty things called sequencers. As the band said, the art is in the creation process. In many cases sounds, samples and patterns can be created that can then be played in accompaniment to "traditional" instruments and vocals. I'd recommend broadening your horizons a bit.
@soppliger Oh gee thanks so much for enlightening me that there are other forms of music, I did not know there was ANYTHING besides pop... oh goodness, my brain is so much heavier now. Seriously dude... I listen to 50's, 60's, 70's 80's 90's and some of today. Just because I don't like a band's music doesn't mean that I only listen to pop. I listen to artists like Fats Domino, Frank Sinatra, Mumford & Sons, Muse, Trifonic, Adele, BBD, Blinky & the Roadmasters (reggae),... reply 1 of 2
@soppliger reply 2 of 3 now because apparently it's still too much... Bob Marley, Bon Jovi, Bruce Hornsby, Death Cab, Def Leppard, Florence + the Machine, GNR, INXS, Jimmy Buffett, John Lennon, Skynyrd, Michael Franti, Maroon 5, One Republic, Rick Astley, Relient K, Seal, The Hives, Tom Petty, UB40, and many many more. That's about 10% of what's on my iPod.... and yes, I do listen to some pop bands like NKOTB, NSync, etc. Although I prefer my artists to play their own instruments.
@Luminara There are tons of different types of art. One artist sets up on a street corner, and onlookers are awed as they watch him create in front of them. Another artist labors for days and weeks in his apartment and presents a finished product to hang in a gallery. Both are legitimate.
@soppliger and finally reply 3... stupid limitation on characters... ....And just because I disagree that a computer is not a music instrument, my horizons need to be broadened in your opinion. I bet you've never heard of half of those artists... so shove your pathetic comment and stop thinking that just because somebody has a differing opinion than you, that they know nothing about music. With that attitude you gotta be like what... 15?
@Luminara Actually, I'm 41 and like you, a music fanatic - from Rush, Mountain, Wishbone Ash & Nektar to Allan Holdsworth; From The XX, Bon Iver, Hot Chip, Panda Bear and New Pornographers to Neko Case, Beach House and Fan Farlo. My apologies. There's something for everyone out there. It's just disappointing when someone puts someone else down just because they don't care for their work. I really do enjoy hearing what other folks enjoy and your list is very diverse - good stuff.
@soppliger See you don't quite like it when someone puts you in a bubble just because of something that you post. You made a broad assumption that I needed to listen to different types of music, & I made an assumption that you were a child with that kind of response. I wasn't putting their music down, I was just saying I don't care for computer created music. It's interesting to listen to, sure. But I prefer the real thing. We are both human & have diverse opinions, likes & dislikes.
@Luminara quick observation. It's not computer 'created'. It's partially computer performed. I created and then told the computer (gameboy) what to play. And then I played my parts on a 'real' keyboard, and Carolyn played her parts on a 'real' keyboard. Totally cool if you don't dig the sound, I just don't want my hours of meticulous note sculpting to be credited to a computer. If you're not into it, you're not into what I did, not what a computer did. *smile*
@soppliger PS, I love Rush, they did a computer type sound with real instruments and changed the world of music, much like another band from the 70's and 80's... Pink Floyd ring a bell? Bon Iver is pretty good too, although I've only heard a few songs from him. Fan Farlo was ok, the only song I've heard of theirs was on the Twilight Soundtrack. And again, it might be disappointing but I wasn't putting them down. Read the initial post again without any emotion and you'll see that.
Great song guys! Are you using Ableton? You should check out Max Justus' work - he's another KC guy who does electronic music. Played at Record bar not to long ago.
@soppliger I use ableton for recording and editing as a DAW. But we don't use any computers for our live set. Only a gameboy, effects, and 3 synths. Max Justus is great. We try and catch him whenever we can.

Is there some way to get a HQ copy? (preferably without the spoken intro) I'd love to be able to work this into my DJ sets.
